Lightweight and holds up to weather

Wanted a light weight tent to accommodate my two sons and I with a little room to spare. The advice on size seems to be n +1 so went with the UL4. Have been out on several 5+ day hikes in Colorado where it rained every day/night and we stayed dry throughout. It is very easy to set up and take down, the interior is spacious with lots of storage areas, and the rain fly dries quickly. The vestibules are really roomy and protect your gear from getting wet. It was easy to distribute the weight between the three of us. Really happy with the footprint, even though it is an extra. Have even taken the tent on solo hikes because it is light enough (then you feel like you are in a palace). The rain fly zippers do seem to get stuck in the fabric, mostly trying to unzip from the inside. But overall, EXTREMELY happy and satisfied!

Waterproof even when submerged

I bought this in 2021. I used it on a scout trip that fall. It did well. I brought it on several backpacking trips, but never used it, because we always managed to get a lean-to. This year we were in the Adirondack high peaks and did not get a lean-to. The only tent site was in a low spot and we were expecting rain at night. It poured. That morning I thought we faired pretty well. The tent was bone dry. While my 2 kids (20 and 13) slept, I packed up my sleeping bag. When I started to roll up my sleeping pad, I noticed that the tent floor felt like a water bed. Turns out, 75% of the tent was in a 1.5 inch deep puddle. Not a drop of water inside the tent. I'm still amazed. If our stuff had gotten wet, that probably would have been the end of the trip. Worth every penny.

Great Tent for Backpacking Families

I got this tent when my wife and I started our 2 kids (+dog) backpacking. I wanted something that was light enough for me to carry by myself, but large enough to fit the whole family. This was one of the few tents that fit the bill. It's worth paying the premium for a tent of this quality and weight. Our most typical hikes involve 1 or 2 adults, 2 kids (now aged 12 and 14) and a 100lbs dog. There is plenty of room for all of us in the tent, ans space in the two awnings for backpacks. We each have an internal pocket for head torches and electronics. After some use, the shock cording on the poles became slack. I have fixed tent poles before, but figured I would return these poles to the Big Agnes support center, and they fixed it (for free!) in less than a week. All in all, the customer service experience has made more even more loyal to Big Agnes - clearly they stand behind their products.

Best tent I've owned (backpacking / camping etc fo

Best tent I've owned (backpacking / camping etc for 16 yrs). Was in Mojave with 30mph winds, held up Set up is easy (i'd say 4/5) but once you do it the first time, its a 5/5 - used a youtube video to clarify some things - took me 20 mins (including watching the youtube video) Great space Would be nice if it came with the foot print

Big downgrade

I had this tent since 2011 and used it 100+ nights. Perfect tent, no changes needed. Decided to get the new version and all changes made were so bad I returned it after a 5 night trip. 1. Stakes are now terrible. The notch to catch on the stake is basically non existent. 2. Plastic clips on corners of the tent for the poles vs grommets. 3. Grommets for the footprint but too big or something. The poles didn't stay in them at all so if you tried to move the tent at all the footprint fell off under the tent. 3. The DOORS! How did the make this rain fly so bad. You could never stake the doors properly, you stake one tight, the other is loose, there is always sag, no matter what. Old tent, unzip a diagonal door and crawl out, but this tent has a giant middle flap thingy. Try getting out of this thing after a rainstorm, you have to unzip both sides and push it up over your head and get completely soaked. 4. One way zippers. Old tent: leave the zipper in top middle, either side of the tent could grab it and crawl out. New tent one way , right to left I believe, so one person always crawling over others to get out. And, the zippers were the same side way on both doors, so that person was just screwed. 5. The cross pole :old tent was a nice straight pole, line the fly seam up with it and you are golden. New tent is some bizarre pole with a purposeful angle in it, I think to get more separation from the tent but it's way harder to line up the fly seam / get it straight 6. The tip pouches inside. They are angled in basically flat and the weight of a phone will sag it downhill and the phone just falls out on your face 7. No improvement to the super flimsy bag. Our old one looked like Frankenstein because anytime you catch it on anything it tears. 8. Old tent you could just stake down the sides and they would be fine. New tent they have to be guy lined way out and will still sag in the rain and touch the tent.

Great tent

We used this for 3 days, 2 nights in the backcountry (Canyonlands Needles District) in 3/2024. Two medium-sized, one small adult were comfortable. Would not sleep 4 large people comfortably. Full featured and rugged for its weight. Got us through unexpectedly harsh conditions (30 mph wind gusts, heavy rain, blowing wet snow) with great isolation from outside conditions. We stayed dry and draft-free. Packs stayed almost completely dry under good -sized vestibules. Have not used in warm weather, but in these conditions felt well ventilated and free of condensation. As a freestanding style tent, set up was straightforward; could do with one person but easier with 2 or more. I bought 4 extra stakes so that I could use all guylines. At one of our sites, we were on slickrock and needed to use paracord and stones. Important to stake out carefully to get it to perform; we were initially a little sloppy and the fly flapped a bit until we did it properly. We did use the Big Agnes groundcloth for extra protection. Tent floor is thin, seems like good protection for an expensive tent and isn’t too heavy, just kind of expensive. Can use homemade Tyvek sheet almost for free.

best tent I ever owned

This tent saw me through the worst rainstorm I ever seen in my life. Other people had their tents flooded but with the bathtub flooring I remained dry although clearly the ground under me was getting squishy and wet. No problems with condensation but may be a bigger problem with more than 1 person sleeping in it. When staked out properly it can weather a summer storm in my opinion
