Nice t-shirt but size-up to allow for shrinkage!

I was selected to receive an Arc'teryx Arc'Word T-Shirt for testing. First, the positive impressions: The quality of the cotton used in the shirt, the care used in construction and the stable dye (black in my case) all made for a quality impression. As one would expect from a product made of medium-weight organically grown cotton, the shirt absorbed moisture well and felt comfortable against my skin whether I was relaxed or exercising. The neck band and stitching were nicely covered with a cloth overlay and all internal stitching was overcast for durability and comfort. The logos were nicely applied and the one at the neck was tagless. I'm 5'11" and weigh 172lb; the Medium was a perfect fit for me, neither too generous or tight but trending toward an athletic cut without excess fabric. It was long enough to stay tucked in or to nicely overlap all of my pants from trousers to shorts when worn untucked. Unfortunately, my example had a fatal flaw: It shrank when laundered and shrank further with a second laundering -- to a point where it is now too small for me to wear. When I received the shirt I traced around it to make a template to check for any shrinkage after washing. I then laundered the shirt according to the instructions on the Arc'teryx website: Cold wash, no fabric softener, tumble dried on low and no iron. These instructions differed from those on the shirt's care tag, which called for washing at 30°C/86°F, warmer than the cold water I used. Nevertheless, the shirt shrank noticeably and by the second wash the shirt shrank even more to a total of 1.5 inches vertically and 1 inch on each side (2 inches in circumference). Further, the neck opening shrank so much it was no longer possible to comfortably pull the shirt on over my head. For these reasons, I would strongly suggest buyers purchase at least one size larger than usual to allow for shrinkage. I'd recommend it as a fine cotton shirt if you can get the size dialed to ensure a good fit after washing.

Something to consider before buying.

1. Quality not as good as before, but still great. Though unnoticeable, a little fuzzy after wash, which didn’t happen on previous generations. 2. Fabric is thinner than before, can see through a bit wearing the white tee. Would recommend black tee unless you have amazing body shape. 3. Instant shrink after first wash. I got both L and M sizes; after first wash, L becomes M and M becomes S. My true to fit size is M but I like wearing a bit over-sized L for everyday casual uses, would have bought XL and let it shrinks to L. And for more fitness, true-to fit-style, I would buy L and let it shrinks to M. (I’m 5”10, 155lbs)

Good Value, Comfortable

The tee shirt is very soft and comfortable. The color purchased was dark grey with the logo in black on the chest. It is discrete and looks good with just about any pair of pants or shorts. It is a good value for an organic cotton tee. I am 5'-6", 170 lbs, with chest measurement of 40" and 32" waist and the medium is a perfect fit. The sleeve provides good coverage of the arm. For reference my dress shirt size is 16" neck with 32"/33" sleeve length.

Great t-shirt. New colors are a lot better.

I bought two of these shirts in the old "Everglade" color and I'm not gonna lie the color was kinda "pukey"-- nevertheless, I still wear them regularly and in the future, I'm gonna buy a couple more in black. These are straightforward t-shirts and pretty much fit true to size. Nothing really special or surprising here. I like the new colors much better and they are comfy shirts. I haven't noticed any shrinkage at all. All that being said, it's a bit pricey for what it is, especially considering some of the cooler designs Arc'teryx has been putting on t-shirts as of late.

Good Quality Tee

I just received the Arc'word T from Arcteryx. For a basic style of t-shirt, the fabric quality is very good. I recently purchased a small quantity of t's from Oakley, and the Arcteryx shirt and fabric quality is far superior. I will gladly reorder T's from Arcteryx, and will say bye bye to Oakley for this kind of product. The fit of this shirt is a little small. I am an XL, and this shirt fits more like a large. It does not feel uncomfortably small, but after laundering I will have to see if it shrinks too much. If it does, I will look to size XXL in the future and hope that the neck circumference doesn't make me feel like a pencil neck. Kudos to Arcteryx for a nice quality shirt and good value for the money.

Revised...why?

What a shame that is. The “REVISED” version feels and looks like a knock-off: way too thin, almost transparent, loose collar, and an awefully cheap look to it. This used to be an excellent heavyweight t-shirt for the past two seasons. This version, however, is a letdown. A paper thin revision for the same price. And it got worse after the first wash. Straight to the bin!

Wow

This product 1) fits great, 2) looks great and 3) is so soft! The material is nicer than any cotton shirt I have ever owned. I'm 6'4", 190 pounds and got the XL because it might shrink a little in the wash. The sleeve length is slightly shorter than I normally like, but really not an issue. The only other drawback would be the price, but you get what you pay for.

Super sweet casual Mens Shirt

Bought this shirt for my Dad, a huge fan of Arc'teryx. He gets so many compliments on the cut, and simplicity of the graphic. Definitely eye-catching and a great staple piece for an Arc'teryx fan. Black, DarkMoss and Oxblood are my favorite color combinations. Washes well and doesn't shrink or fade. Nice piece to complete an Arc'teryx outfit! Dad approved!

So comfortable!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this shirt a couple weeks ago and it instantly became my favorite shirt! It’s soft and lightweight. The stitching was perfect, something most brands fail to accomplish. I use it in my hikes and just as an “at-home” shirt. Overall great! Just remember, it’s cotton... it will shrink if you are not careful
