Awesome rack
Thule has never let me down and still holds the standard. This rack is solid, stable, and secure. Easy to assemble. Love the locks on the clamps - i don't see how a thief could get my bikes or the whole rack. So much easier loading and securing especially after a long ride when I am already tired. A short lift and clamp it down with no worries about my partner's bike scratching up mine. Since some of my bikes have fenders, I chose the rack that clamps onto the top tube - and these clamps even adjust to slants. Two heavier trail bikes even traveled safely - no wheels spinning in the air or rack bobbing up and down. There is some side to side bobble on rougher roads and I wish Thule would design a support washer/nut for the other side of the hitch bolt. The adapter for a 2" is good but does allow a little play in the movement while traveling. This rack is going to last me for a long time!!
A good frame-clamp platform rack option
Why did I replace a perfectly good hanging rack with the DoubleTrack Pro 2? Two reasons: one, I was tired of trying to work around top tube adapters with the oddly-shaped frames our bikes have; and two, one of our bikes has fenders, making any of the wheel-clamp platforms non-compatible. I also like how this rack can accommodate a wide array of wheel types -- road, hybrid, MTB, fat tire, etc. I like how simple it is to get a bike secured in the DTP2, and I also liked how easy it was to assemble overall - I don't think it took me more than a half-hour to put everything together once we got it home. My only complaints: I would maybe like it if the rack did fold down while bikes were mounted (I can still get in my pickup box, but this may be an issue for those with liftgates), and the per-bike weight limit is a bit low, especially if you plan on playing with a fat bike or two.
Nice Rack!
After much research, I bought this rack to replace my old rack that the bikes hang from. I wanted a rack that could adapt between a 2 inch and a 1.25 inch trailer hitch so I could use it on my Tacoma or my wife's Outback. Being able to set the bikes in the trays and secure them is a huge improvement....no swinging, banging, wheels turning, etc. Being able to lock the bikes is fantastic. Great quality and ease of use. I'm glad I upgraded.
Good but REI made it better!
Easy to load and unload but the downfall was the assembly instructions. The assembly instructions were merely picture-gram with no written instructions AND parts were not labeled in the picture-gram. Absolutely horrific! The saving grace was REI's bike staff. Hopefully THULE figured out how to give written instructions and a visual instruction. If THULE has not improved their assembly instructions, save the headache and have REI assemble it.
Finally a rack for any full suspension bike
Great, secures bikes well. Super quick to put in receiver, and bikes are in and out in under 2 minutes
Excellent rack for bikes with fenders
I picked this rack because it had trays and easily accommodated bikes with fenders. Overall, it works well. It's easy to mount to the hitch. It's easy to load and secure the bikes. The rack includes locks for the hitch and the clamps. While I wouldn't leave bikes unattended for a long period of time, the locks provide some comfort during short rest stops. The clamps will rub away decals over long drives. So, I recommend using pipe insulation or something else to cushion between the clamp and your bike frame. If possible, I recommend positioning the bikes to avoid one bike's seat rubbing against the bar tape of the other. My brother has a previous model, the Thule Doubletrack Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack. I thought that design did just as well holding bikes, was easier to adjust for different styles of bikes, and did not rub the frames quite as much. I wish Thule and REI would return to that design.
Safe and easy travel
This bike rack makes for safe and easy travel anywhere you want to go. Assembly was quick; the rack fits the car hitch nicely and it is totally awesome because it is so convenient to use. Perfect rack.
Holds step through bike with fenders
Holds her step through bike by the frame, as well as my diamond style framed bike. Troughs for wheels can hold very wide tires. Would be nice if rack could be slid further into receiver hitch because rack sticks out farther than it needs to. Also, clamps could be improved. Overall, a useful rack if you want to carry a step through bike that has fenders.
Great Bike Rack
I originally thought assembly of this bike rack would be complex and take a long time to assemble but to my surprise. It was very easy and took only 35-40 minutes. Highly recommended this rack.
