Comfortable and good quality, BUT size up!
The title pretty much sums it up. This jacket has the quality that one has come to expect from Arc'teryx. That said it runs really really small. I'm 5'1 and just about 115. The small was too fitted on me when I had a cotton tshirt on. With the M I could wear a light sweater underneath. I tried multiple colors to make sure it wasn't an anomaly. The jacket is warm and I've worn it with a cashmere sweater underneath in 35F temps in Chicago. It's also fairly water repellent. The reason I give it 3 stars and not 5 is because of the inconsistency in sizing. For comparison, I wear a S in the Atom LT and Nuri parka and am able to layer comfortably.
already put to the test .. and it passed
I took this on a four day camp out on Mt Washington, and this jacket helped me stay warm when wind chill dipped to -5F. Of course all layers are important at that temperature, but this jacket has a few extra features that make it worth the extra $$ in my view. The right level of warmth without being bulky. A slightly longer back that other coats, so it doesn't ride up when bending over etc. Easy to take on and off, even when changing in cold temps. Good hood design for functioning well in strong winds. One niggle may be the cuffs are a bit snug, but then that ensures that it stays in place over the cuffs of my gloves. Love the coral colour too.
sadly returned
I bought this jacket when I was traveling and unexpectedly caught by 20 degree weather in Texas without a warm jacket. The jacket was very warm, it did the job and it did feel and look beautiful on. Ultimately I returned it because I had so many feathers coming out of the seams, with that being a common complaint among other customers, I couldn’t justify the price.
Keeper
Purchased XS hooded coat in Baja blue color as 2017 Xmas present for my better half. Sizing is spot on for a 100 lb, 5’2” woman. Coat body has room for layers, no underarm or shoulder binding, but still slim cut. Arms are long enough to cover wrists, hem is long enough to cover hips, and includes well thought out hem draw cords. Hood and cuff design are best in class, they work without fuss. Coat performed well in Kansas City at -20 with a breeze. Her comment, “I like this coat”.
Poor Fabric, Feathers come out within the week
Keeps you warm, no doubt! Tears apart easily. You can't do activities with it at all! Feathers start coming off within a week. Not true to size, they run small. On top of that, they say it goes to your hip, that isn't true. It hardly reaches the top of your belt. I've tried the M and L size, both bad experience.
Disappointing fabric quality
Love that this is lightweight and very warm. However, outer material is not at all sturdy and easily rips/tears and begins shedding down after only a few months of light wear and no washing. I do not trust in its longevity which is disappointing given the steep price.
Terrible: Waste of Money
I purchased this jacket a few months ago. From the get go, it began falling apart and it also is not warm. Don’t waste your money. Don’t even consider this. I’m an experienced outdoors woman and am a backpacking instructor. Take my word- this jacket will not do you any good.
Very disappointed
Down leaked after 3 wears so exchanged it for another and the same thing happened. Very disappointed as this is a very warm jacket but not at all worth the price.
Great thin down jacket- very high quality
I bought this jacket for my adult daughter for an upcoming mountaineering trip. It was more expensive than other similar jackets. The size runs small. She typically wears a XS and we bought a Small. She’s been wearing it daily for a month of training hikes in all kinds of weather It’s a fantastic jacket- well made. Comfortable ( she’s slender) and it looks great. She wears it over a base layer, under a gortex if it’s raining. She reports that it is so comfortable that she can’t stop wearing it This doesn’t really count for much but it looks Fantastic! I’m a little jealous as I have two thin down jackets from two different companies and they don’t look this well constructedalso the jacket compresses to a tiny stuff sac Great jacket!! Wish I had one I highly recommend it!
Warmth without bulk
I had to go up in size from M to L so that I can fit a fleece underneath. It fits perfectly, with a good range of motion. Also, the #800 down fill is warm without being bulky. The hood is form fitting, not loose. This jacket rolls up compactly. It’s the best winter jacket I’ve ever owned!
