decent vest, terrible bottles!

I have run approximately 50-60 miles in this vest. Overall, the vest itself is pretty comfortable. I am 6 ft, 170 lbs and the M fits well. The pockets (front and back) are relatively easy to access and provide relatively bounce-free storage (including an iPhone 7 in the lower, back storage). However, Nathan completely missed the mark on the bottles. The caps are EXCEEDINGLY difficult to screw on and properly seat. Water ends up spilling everywhere. Not an issue you want to have at an aide station or during a long run! I ended up using other, non-Nathan, caps that actually thread on to the bottles properly.

Great pack, one problem

I bought the pack a month ago, along with a bladder for the back. It fits amazingly. No chafing issues, not really a need to adjust the straps once it's on. The only problem I've had, like others, is that the bottles leak. They have to be upright or they'll drip. If they're full, they drip when you run until theres not enough water in them to drip again. I like the soft flasks but the leak isn't helpful when I'm out at 4am and theres no place to refill water until I get home. If you use the 1.5L bladder, no leaks. Lots of storage. Really a great pack. Is it possible to get replacement soft flasks that dont leak?

Agree with other review—great vest, bad bottles

I love the vest, but the bottles that come with it (though expensive) are a total failure. It's practically impossible to screw the tops on without cross-threading. Even if you manage to do so, they still leak, which allows air in and makes drinking from them ineffective. Finally, once they have sat closed for a few minutes reopening them is really difficult; there's nowhere to grab and it feels like there's a real risk of the flexible material tearing. Unfortunately I've heard the same complaints from others with the vest, so the problem seems to be widespread.

Excellent vest. So light and comfortable

This is a great running vest. I read previous reviews from folks that loved the vest but gave lower marks because of the water bottles. It took a few tries but I was able to secure the tops of the water bottles well so that they did not leak. And I loved them while running. I really like the suction system on them and how the bottles collapse as you drink water from the. The vest overall is just wonderful. It is so light that I barely noticed it on me. It has hardly any bounce and has enough pockets to store everything. The cutouts for the arms are perfect and never chafed my arms as I ran. Just a great vest.

Spare magnet for bladder

Hello Nathan. I love my vest. I use it for every long run in summer. I replaced my 1.5 hydration bladder today and realized that the original magnet was attached to the bladder that I put in the trash last week. Do you have replacements?

Great vest, terrible bottles!

Love the vest. Very comfortable, plenty of storage. Medium fits great (6 ft, 170 lbs). My one complaint is the bottles. When I purchased the vest it came with 2 hydrapak 12 oz bottles. All they do is leak. The caps are impossible to properly thread! Major issue for aide stations or when stopping to refill. I've spent the last month trying to find suitable soft flasks... no luck. I found a UD bottle that has caps that properly thread but the straws are too short. This major oversight may be the reason switch to another vest. I'm usually very impressed with Nathan products.

Great Vest!

I bought this about a week ago and I’ve ran over 50 miles with it with 15 miles being the longest at once. I absolutely love the vest. It does not cause any chaffing and stays tight on my body. There’s also plenty of storage. I’ve seen where recent reviews complain about the bottles leaking but I have not had any issues with the bottles. I did lose the magnet piece that would hold a bladder hose, but Nathan Sports sent me another one free of charge. I’m going to run a 50 miler in a few weeks so I’m going to get the 1.5L bladder for it as well.

Between sizes, this minimal vest missed the mark..

Between sizes, this minimal vest missed the mark for me. Overall I liked the design, but found the large sizing either too big, or medium too snug for my 5'11" 190lbs. frame. Using the Nathan size guide, I measure a 38" chest at the sternum, which is the edge of the medium, and outside the range of the large. The good news is that the Nathan size charts are pretty accurate, so do reference them if you are considering a purchase. I ran in both sizes, with the majority of my mileage in the medium during a 3 days trail running trip in Jackson Hole. I agree with many that the lower side pouches aren't very practical, as the adjustment straps limit access. I used them for trash and a small toilet kit. Otherwise there wasn't much I found them practical for. I used the 1.5L bladder (sold separately) with it for water, and the front flasks for Tailwind. I didn't run into the threading issues others reported with the flasks, and found them kind of perfect for a single pouch of Tailwind. As far as I could tell I got the original flasks with the gray lids, not the new black ones that some report. Though I found it a bit of a trick to line them up, I didn't have any leaking. I could see in a long race it might be a challenge threading them exhausted and cross-eyed, but then again what wouldn't be? Running without the bladder the pack was fairly balanced, but running with just a bladder I felt I needed the front flasks to even the weight out. Also the bladder felt a bit sloshy to me, the way it hung and tended to lean to one side from a velcro strap in the rear pouch. I'm use to an old Camelback that feels much more secure. I could see going without the bladder and using just the front flasks, but would likely have to replace them with a larger size, as their 12oz each capacity is a little low for my needs. As for the rest of the storage pockets, I could throw another water bottle on the horizontal rear lower pocket if I needed even more fluid, otherwise the access to this pouch was a little cramped to stuff my lightweight jacket in (an Arc'teryx Incendo Hoodie, in it's own built in stuff sack). Once in there though, there was plenty of room. Alternately, my jacket fit nicely in the upper rear storage pocket. All the front pockets were accessible without taking the vest off, but I personally couldn't contort to access anything in the rear pockets. Though the upper front vertical shoulder strap pockets offered some nice space, even enough room for my iPhone 6, I didn't find them practical for anything hard, only for soft items like gloves (1 in each pocket) or gels. A phone was out of the question, and even a key in the upper stow pocket dug into my clavical uncomfortably. I opted to keep my phone in the same pocket as the flasks, which made me a bit nervous having it that close to liquid, but it was the easiest solution for access on the fly. The lower pockets in front of the flasks have descent space, but I found them mostly useful for fuel and smaller items. I never really found an acceptable easy access front spot for my sunglasses, when conditions were such that I wanted to stow them away. The medium ended up being the best fit for me, but was just too tight. I also found myself really fiddling with the thing over my runs, never finding a sweet spot. As I'd go through my hydration supply, I'd continually have to adjust the straps, which were admittedly easy to access. Something that frustrated me was that the sternum straps were designed with a flap at the end of the webbing to prevent them from slipping though the stay loop that holds the slack, but the side straps did not have this feature. Ultimately they'd come loose from their stay loop and I'd have to take the pack off to fish them back through to manage the excess. One thing I don't see anyone mentioning is the convenience of the magnetic sternum clip for a hydration bladder tube. I found once I had the position of the tube dialed in, it was really convenient to have the magnetic clip. For the most part it would just snap back into place after taking a sip. Only thing I'd ask for is a slightly stronger magnet. I knew going in to it that this was a minimal pack, but I really wanted to see if I could go with less space. Overall I've concluded, since I don't plan on having multiple packs in different sizes, I'll be served better by a more versatile pack with larger capacity.

Best vest on the market

I upgraded to this pack from the VaporKrar 2.0 only out of necessity (I loved the previous one). This is all that I loved about the previous one and more. Nathan has really made some wonderful improvements here, with an enhanced layout, better "second-skin" feel thanks to the new design and added side straps, and a nice front-stash pocket that is isolated from the rest of the pack (another great improvement over previous models). I think the grey/orange color scheme looks just fantastic, too! Highly recommend this pack.
