These are great hiking shoes, and are lightweight. Pretty water resistant, and they breathe well. Nice color also. For someone with a narrow heel, these fit great back there ( originally I wanted Solomon shoes, but those heels are too wide, so I settled for the Merrells). They are true to size. Unfortunately these shoes are not for me, as I have 'wide toes'. My toes are pretty sensitive, and I felt like they were hitting and rubbing everywhere in the toe box. Sadly, I need to return them.
I’ve worn size 7 Merrills for over 5 yrs. I wear regular 6.5 so 7 in boots, running shoes, hikers works well. Bought the 7 and managed to lose two toenails while hiking even though the shoes seemed to fit. Returned for 7.5 and the whole shoe is sloppy large- heels slip, too much lateral motion- even with 2 pair of socks. Insult to injury: the toe slides forward to hit the end. My take: the toe box on this style is the problem. Returning for a different style but I’ll still love my old Merrill boots to death.
Purchased after reviewing online. Replacing low cut Moab. So comfortable right out of the box did not need to break in. Great shoe even with high arches.
I own five pair of Merrill shoes, all have been extremely comfortable from the get-go, and they’re very durable. I have a bit of a wide foot and there’s never an issue.
I finally found hiking shoes that fit properly. In preparation for a hiking tour in Europe I have been wearing these shoes to walk my dog in sometimes rainy weather. The shoes hold up nicely in wet weather. If the front of the shoes get wet, my feet stay dry. In terms of size, this pair fits my wide feet perfectly.
Actually, I've walked lots of miles---comfortably. I just spent a week and a half in southern Utah and wore these every day: on rocks, on sandy trails, in mud, up and down and just sitting in the car.
Wore these shoes on a 25-mile backpacking trip without breaking them in first (crazy, I know) and had zero complaints! This was also after trying a pair of a different brand that gave me horrible blisters. The Merrell's fit well, they were water resistant and they kept my feet happy!
These shoes are extremely light and their size for me was accurate. I had no problem hiking and even running on rocky terrain and sandy soil without any slipping. I did find that I wanted slightly more support for my feet on longer rocky hikes, but thankfully there was plenty of room for added insoles which helped. For shorter hikes they were plenty comfortable. I love how lightweight they felt while trail running. This is my first pair of Merrell shoes.
I have been hiking/backpacking for over 50years. I’ve gone from heavy duty stiff soles boots to tennis shoes and this boot is by far the best I’ve worn. Plenty of room in the toe box after I put in my orthotics & linnet! I’ve carried fairly heavy packs for 7-10 days trips and the support and flexibility of this shoe is fantastic. I wasn’t sure about the waterproofing initially because my feet felt hotter than usual but now I am so glad I have it! The shoe is also much lighter than most hiking boots so you’re not carrying around extra weight I hike almost daily ... this is my third pair. Will be hiking in panama soon and guess what will be in my luggage. These boots!
I was pretty disappointed when I received these shoes. The color says black but they are definitely brown. And they are trimmed in gold thread. They look like a walking shoe for the older crowd. With wearing though, they performed fine, It really looked like the soles would be slippery but were not and gripped well. The Siren is a little stiff but should probably loosen up with time, It also runs a little small for the size, but just a little. All in all, an ok shoe but to me, more of a shoe than a hiker
