Keeping you safe and cool
I have a couple weeks of riding in Colorado and Utah, so long climbs and really bumpy downhill. The helmet has great adjustment and retention system. I can feel actual air flow coming from the front to the back of my scalp. I have more confidence for sure while defending knowing I'm wearing top of the line protection.
Great helmet
The fit is much better than the 2R model. Chin guard is the same as the 2R. Easy to remove. overall helmet is not heavy for a "full face" protection.
Next Gen Function / Protection / Fit
Full marks for meeting initial expectations on higher-end consumer MX Helmet - solid construction, versatile change option, useful features = MIPS is must. Tighter access on 61cm head, yet preferred snug fit at crown and cheek bones. Haven't tried in hot summer temps yet.
Great 2-for-1 helmet
Previously tried the Super 2r, which did not fit my head very well and had to return it. The 3r has resolved the fitment issues and the helmet is great! Very happy with my purchase. Here are my thoughts: Fitment - great adjustability and support at the back of the head. The dial to adjust the tension is great at fine-tuning the grip around my head. Without the chin bar, the helmet has great coverage, not only at the back, but also the sides. The sides of the helmet come right near my ears. I would imagine this provides better protection on impacts, but it really also helps with sun coverage too. Chin bar - easy to put on while on the trail. While not rated for DH, I think it's perfect for my occasional enduro-esque sustained downhills. It's not a hassle at all to bring the chin bar on my pack. The bar is designed to be put on while the helmet is adjusted and on your head already, but again, it's very easy to do by feel. Ventilation - the vents feel quite adequate and I feel good airflow when I get to speed. Visor - very good adjustability, also easy to take off. Coverage is great in the down position, really covers the sun from my eyes. Finer details - the buckle/strap hangs far enough away from my jaw to not cause any pressure spots. I ride with sunglasses and there is a groove built into the inner aspect of the helmet to accommodate the sunglasses's arms, perfect design. Extras - there is a detachable go-pro mount and an included helmet bag. I don't record my rides, so no experience using the go-pro mount. Easy to take on/off, but feels solid when attached. Helmet bag is a nice addition.
So far, so good!
Helmet fits and feels like a regular helmet without the face guard. And once you put it on, which is very easy and only takes a few tries to get down, I definitely feel just a bit safer. Face guard doesn't obstruct your view, just makes it a bit tougher to drink water. I kept guard on for a climb and could see how on hot days it would be hot, but on cool days it's nice. A must buy for anyone looking for some more protection and versatility.
