Good headlamp for travel, but I wouldn't rely on it for mountaineering or other safety-critical missions. On the plus side, it's lightweight and super convenient to charge while traveling. Light output is average. Biggest concern is dependability in wet conditions. Recently the flap over the charger port came open while the headlamp was in a damp tent, and some moisture got inside. I couldn't get the headlamp to work for the next 3 days, even thought I did my best to dry it out, recharge it, etc. Then it started working again about a week later. Cost me the ability to do a pre-dawn summit hike on that trip...
I was a little confused if this headlamp would be better or worse than what I already have. I already have the BD Revolt and Storm, and the Petzl RXP, 2017 Tikkina and Elight. The 150 lumens is more than enough, and the easy ability to dim makes it perfect for night hiking and around camp. I miss the red light, but I really don't use that feature that much anyway. The quick touch to change brightness is awesome and I used that feature a lot. Very comfortable and light so I can see runners loving it. Now is it a good value? The Tikkina is less, but to add the rechargeble Core is pricey. But then you can replace it, or put in regular batteries in a pinch. The twist is none of my rechargeble headlamps use a lot of power and won't die after years of use. Easy enough to recharge, either on the way to the trail in the car, or on the trail with a battery bank. So in the end I think it is a winner.
This is a no frills but excellent rechargeable headlamp. The LED light is bright (can be dimmed down) and provides great coverage for around camp. This unit does NOT have a spot light feature so it's not great for long distance uses. Good for about 40 meters as advertised. But for around camp and for reasonable distances and this headlamp is fantastic. The recharging feature is also fantastic and it has never taken me 3 hours for a full charge (that's their estimate). While this model is NOT waterproof, it is well sealed and water resistant. This light if far better around water than the conventional AAA battery powered headlamps which are NOT well sealed. Easy 5 star rating.
I work on a farm, and the barn has no electricity and is built in a way such that no matter how bright it is outside, it's extremely dim inside. I picked this up to give me some light while I'm mucking stalls, and it's perfect. Surprisingly bright with a nice, even light field. The tilt feature is smooth, so you can tilt the light to any angle you want instead of having it click into preset angles. The elastic tends to loosen pretty easily, but only while taking it off--I've never had it come loose while wearing it. I just keep this plugged into the charger in my car, and I never have to worry about the battery getting low or dying. Lightweight and durable. Perfect for my purposes!
I am using this as much to be seen as to see while night running, we have pretty good street lighting with some dark areas, so I really only need it on the lowest power to see. But, on darkened trails it does a great job lighting all up all sides (including above). I also love the touch feature, which toggles to highest power when needed. It is one of the smallest headlamps available and is also lightweight, but still protrudes a bit from the head, so it's no fashion statement. It also leaves a mark on the forehead as the bracket makes contact. Battery life and durability seem very good, love the recharge feature, I carry a tiny flashlight as a backup in case the headlamp ever did run out of charge. But its easy to predict the charge loss as it gets dimmer but remains working as the battery drains toward the end, will run a long time in this twilight state before ever actually turning off.
This headlight provides decent light for some situations like walking around at night. At least 150 lumens I found it to be too dim for biking. Its major design flaw is no matter how much I tighten its strap, it repeatedly comes loose again. Tightening it every time I want to use it is a major chore as tightening it is difficult. This headlight is not worth $40 in my opinion. Nice that it's rechargeable though, charge lasts a good amount of time.
Bright, lightweight, durable headlamp. I just put it through the wash (normal cycle) accidentally, and it still works!
I bought this to keep in my backpack. Easy to recharge with the USB, good light light (no hot spot) for walking. Easy to switch the light output from min to max.
This is a nice headlamp, but not great. On the pro side, it's very bright, lightweight, and has a physical button (as opposed to the ones you can only swipe). I can charge it and my cell phone using a portable battery on longer hauls, avoiding the need to carry disposable batteries. There are a few problems with it, which are not huge but why I dinged it a star: (1) The instructions are awful. I mean really, really bad. (2) It dims, but not that much. More of a range would be nice. I bought this because my wife hates bright headlamps in camp but I like bright ones on the trail. (3) This isn't worth a star, but it has swipe features. These aren't necessary for the lamp to function but in my experience they don't work in very cold temperatures. That's why I like a physical button. All said, I'd buy it again but not at MSRP. Black Diamond could make a few improvements and have a solid winner.
Out of the box, each time you turn it on, it will be at 60% brightness. However you can set it so that it will remember the brightness you last used, and use that when you turn it on again. Google "black diamond iota brightness memory" for instructions. I love this feature!
