Marmot Jacket
Great Jacket, materials and craftsmanship are very good. Jacket hasn’t had the quality and value ripped out of like others who have replaced fine tooth zippers with terrible coarse blocky zippers and embroidered logos for heat applied logos that a sure to fail long term. Additionally, internal breast pocket makes up for lack of external pocket. That said, the Pocket on outboard of sleeve seems useless except for adding to the overall athletic look and breaking up the plain appearance (which I like). All in all, it’s a nice jacket compared to the competitors at this price point and one that didn’t compromise quality to be competitive.
Good-ish
I bought the same version of the men's gravity soft shell a few years back. The old version felt heavier, in a good way. Now I bought the newest version of the same jacket. It feels a bit cheaper, with less bulk to the inner liner making it a bit colder. The outer shell material feels cheaper too, feeling less comfortable in general. It looks nice, but it doesn't measure up to the old jacket. The pocket zippers in the old jacket failed within a year and the main zipper started failing after 3 years... so I hope this version is an upgrade. I will still wear it, but my heart longs for a quality Marmot to snuggle with.
This is my first soft shell,
This is my first soft shell, and my first Marmot that I have ever bought. I definitely love it. I have had it for only a few day since I received it as an early Christmas present. I have the Cobalt Blue/Bright Navy colored one, and I have received many complements on the looks of it. It is also very warm. The first night I wore it, it dipped into the low 30's upper 20's and I was very warm underneath it in my golf polo. It kept out all of the wind gusts. Today, I was curious, so I dumped a whole glass of water on my jacket while wearing it. All of the water ran off immediately in huge beads and my jacket felt just as dry as it had before the water. I love this thing.
Gravity Jacket
I bought this jacket to replace my older winter jacket. I love the fit and styling. It is very comfortable. My only complaint is that it is not as warm as I was hoping. I am comfortable in the 40's in this jacket, but anything cooler than that and you definitely feel the chill. If you are going to wear this out and exercise you will probably be fine, but fir those cold mornings on the way to work in the car I need something a bit warmer. I'm now looking to get a down jacket and will likely get a Marmot because they make a quality product. I am 6' 6" and weigh 235. The XXL size fits well. The XL is a bit snug.
Most used, versatile jacket in my outdoor arsenal
I am replacing my old Gravity Jacket with a new one. The old one was in service for over 5 years as my go to snowboarding mid layer here in Montana. That is over 500 days of service splitboarding and snowboarding. It also saw shoulder season trail hikes and mountain bike rides. Still working great but after many washes the collar is permanently sweat stained on the gray jacket. I got twice as much use out of this jacket as the previous softshell of a different brand that was used in the same way. Zipper flailed on that one but it was not Marmot. I love the fit, versatility, and durability of the Gravity Jacket. Best softshell I have ever owned. The new one in black is the bomb.
I survived the Polar Vortex
This is a great light-weight jacket that provides a surprising amount of warmth, wind-blocking and moisture-repelling. Like other Marmot jackets I've owned the quality is exceptional and the jacket is versatile. I wore the jacket during the recent "Polar Vortex" which dropped temperatures into the single digits and found that a base layer and sweater was adequate for me...but then again, I'm from New England. I purchased a Medium and have a pretty athletic build (5'7" - 160 lbs - 42 chest), the fit is perfect...but if I were to put on a little more weight in the shoulders it would be snug. Great product!
Perfect middle weight jacket
I bought this jacket in the Arctic Navy color and XXL size. I love the fit -- plenty of room through the shoulders for someone with a 48-50" chest, not too big in the waist, and the sleeves are long enough for someone who wears 36-37" sleeves. I did find the Arctic Navy color to be a little darker and more subdued than it appears online, but that works for me. The tag says it has a lifetime warranty against defects. Based on the fit and quality, I have also ordered a Marmot shirt. I wore it out in 40 degree weather with light rain the first day I got it, and it shed water and kept me warm. It's a nice looking jacket that you can wear to the office or running errands, rain or shine. It may be a little heavy for athletic endeavors. It feels like it will be very versatile, when it is too cold for a windbreaker, and too warm for a winter parka.
I have bought a variety of
I have bought a variety of warm clothings for travel to destinations with colder climates ... most are either too bulky or don't perform. And then I bought my Marmot Gravity jacket ... in flaming red, no less. And I immediately knew that all the other warm clothings are due for cold turkey treatment, never to be worn again. The Gravity jacket is elegant, very effective, light and very stylish but yet has pockets in all the right places - especially the one on the arm for mobile phones. Now I am considering the orange/grey version. BONUS : Easy to maintain, does not trap dirt and does not get wet. And I think that on a cold drizzly day in the city, it could be urban wear and rain coat combined.
Very happy with this jacket!
The Gravity jacket was a replacement for my old, well worn, Marmot Windstopper jacket. I had first ordered the Alsek jacket, but found it to be a lighter weight than I was looking for, not to mention the very high collar. (Why do we say “not to mention” and then go on to mention it?) Anyway, I wore the Gravity today, in 37 degree weather, to play golf. It was perfect! Thursday I will wear it skiing, under a Marmot hard shell jacket. I can already tell you that it will be perfect. I was kind of traumatized to replace my old jacket, but this jacket is everything I could hope for.
Durable, Reliable, Compliment Inducing
East Tennessee and the surrounding area of the Great Smoky Mountains provides some of the most confused weather that I have ever experienced. It can be as cold as 38 in the morning and soar to 78 in the afternoon. Also, when hiking the Smokies the weather can be the same or worse. The Gravity Jacket has been a fantastic purchase for dealing with these kinds of days. It wicks away water with extreme ease, blocks wind from cutting through, offers a pleasing amount of warmth on cold days, and still has a solid amount of breath-ability for cold hikes. I also love being able to wear it to work as it looks very sleek and fits well. At 6'0" and 155 pounds the Medium is a great fit and I love the dark olive color. The jacket did great on a hike earlier this year to see some frozen waterfalls. As the name suggests it is really lightweight and doesn't feel like i'm walking around with a led vest on. Seriously, I would buy a hundred of these jackets if that wasn't the most ridiculous thing ever. If you're looking for a good softshell, do yourself a favor and pick up the Gravity Jacket.
