One of Arc's Best Softshells

Pros: - Arc's best softshell, good balance between breathability and windproofness in high output activities - I like the new MX style pockets! More pockets the better imo in a shell Cons: - Poor color selection. Light green, poo colored, white, or black. Come on Arc, give us some dark blues, purples, olives, orange, reds. I got the black after trying the other colors. - Price went way up this year, and I don't know why. - Sizing is weird on this jacket. I wear Large in Arc always, but the L in this is massive with a huge waist, not trim fit at all. It's closer to XL in other Arc jackets. I ended up sizing down to Medium which fits pretty well.

Versatility plus!

I want a softshell that breathes first and foremost. This Gamma Lightweight is excellent in this. That makes it a 4 season jacket- more layers in winter, less in summer, but it wears all day long because it breathes (IMHO). After that, the fit is a perfect Medium- 5'11" and 180lbs. Can layer a bit, but fine with a light layer too. Stretch and comfort are best in any of the many jackets I've had. And the blue color is a favorite of both my wife and me. Two chest pockets are awesome and the handwarmer pockets definitely come in handy! Hood is perfect and fully adjustable. This is likely the most versatile jacket I have ever owned, all things considered!

Amazing windbreaker.

Unbelievably great fit. Slight contouring, but with all the room you need in the arms. I didn’t intend on spending $260 on a windbreaker, but I don’t regret it at all.

Too Baggy

Too baggy. A different cut to any other Arcteryx I have, although that's not my main gripe. I returned the jacket over a month ago, and still haven't been reimbursed. Arcteryx keep saying they are investigating, the courier stipulates an investigation takes 6 working days, but won't go any further as the account belongs to Arcteryx, I have tried multiples times to resolve via email, to no avail. There is no clear policy on lost/returned items, which is crazy for such a large company. I have had to contact my bank to query the transaction. Really disappointed with Arcteryx

Nice jacket, not breathable for high output

Great fit and form, nice pockets, helmet compatibility. Good wind and abraision resistance. Not adequate breathability for high output activities. I bought it for ski touring as a leave-it-on layer and have found it too warm unless temps are below ~15 degrees F, which it's not often in Utah. As another commenter mentioned, when you sweat in the jacket, it retains odor much more than other apparel. I literally can't wear it three times without washing it, and I do not generally make clothing stink.

Hello Chris, thank you for sharing your experience with the Gamma Lightweight Hoody. We’re glad to hear the fit, pocket design, helmet compatibility, and wind and abrasion resistance are working well for you, and we’re sorry the breathability and odor retention haven’t met your expectations during high‑output ski touring. Your notes on how it performs in your conditions, especially around heat buildup and odor, are really helpful, and we’ll make sure your feedback is passed along to our product team.

great in-between piece

I bought this not knowing that I needed it. I have an atom hoody, an atom sl hoody and other jackets that I use all of the time but this one fills that void on the lightweight side of things. Fit on point just as it always is with Acrteryx. The jacket has a nice bit of stretch built in and provides wind resistance and light water resistance as well. The fabric is lighter and I don't expect it to be as durable but Arteryx always surprises and I know that the piece will last for years to come.

Gamma Lightweight with 4 pockets!

I was initially hesitant to order the new Gamma Lightweight because of some reviews stating the fit to be too boxy. To be honest for me the fit has improved drastically. I'm at the upper limit of Large in almost all Arc'teryx jackets that I have tried on. I bought the previous version of this jacket and it was slightly too tight for me, but this one is absolutely perfect. For me the chest pockets are also welcome improvements. For reference I'm 181 cm and 96 kg.

Really versatile jacket

Haven’t had much time to test it but so far it has fulfilled my expectations. Really light but seems durable for its weight. Really happy having two chest pockets and two hand pockets (this should be extended throughout the line), it really increases functionality with very little weight penalty. Breathes really well but protects you from wind. Don’t expect it to withstand rain, it isn’t designed for that purpose. The hood is comfortable and well designed as usual from this brand. I like the color too (chloris). In warmer seasons I prefer colors that blend with nature. One dislike is that I find the sizing more boxy than before (preferred previous version) but this might be something personal for me. This is the perfect jacket when you don’t expect rainy weather and need something more durable than a Squamish, or as an active outer layer keeping a light hardshell on your backpack just in case.
