Great idea, very poor quality
This worked great for the first few growler fills, but one day the spigot handle (activator to poor out the liquid) just snapped right off when I applied the normal pressure to operate it - not well made at all. It looks just like the spigot on a normal keg tapper, but it clearly isn't nearly as well made (as those get all kinds of abuse at parties). I guess the only bright side is the manufacturer sells a parts kit on the web site for $12.00 (as opposed to 45 for whole new keg cap kit). This poor quality is really a shame because the growlers themselves seem to be practically indestructible and very well made.
Good Idea, Needs Work
I really like the idea behind this, but in practice it isn't all that great except as a conversation piece. The first charge with the CO2 is likely to be messy, as the cartridge and the bottle are both near full (even leaving the recommended 12 oz. clear in the bottle). After that you have to recharge the bottle with the CO2 after almost every glass (you might get 1 and 1/2 sometimes) and the last charge is close to depleting the cartridge. The most disappointing thing is that the spigot end seems to hold a bit of liquid so you have to be careful to drain it all out in the glass even after you close it to prevent liquid from leaking out. I won't use it often, but I've at least learned some tricks about it now for when I do.
It's so great for the first pour and then
I LOVE the idea of this. It's too fragile to depend on. I am still giving it four stars because what alternative is there to turn my growler into a small keg? I recommend before using it, to buy the replacement parts kit. You won't have a problem with the tube or the cap--it's the other parts like the little valve inlet thingy that are NOT well made. Be careful if you remove it because the little white rubber valve thing can easily pop off and get lost. Fits well and doesn't leak.
Works pretty well, over pressurizes 64 Oz tank
Works pretty well, definitely over pressurized the 64 OZ tank, but once I got the hang of only sightly depressing the CO2 cartridge it got a lot better.
I like the concept
I often buy growlers of beer instead of bottles or cans because of the fresh draft taste. When I saw the Drink Tanks growler I was excited. When I saw the keg cap option I was extatic. I no longer needed to continually open the growler to pour off a pint! In reality this is only effective for a 64oz or larger growler because you need to pour off 12-16oz before the keg cap can be used. In practice I was somewhat disappointed. I realize it is the physics behind this design that failed me. The first charg will allow pouring about 1/2 pint due to the minimal volume of CO2. Successive charges will afford longer pours. I thought no some form of regulator would be a huge improvement given the already high-end price. In addition to the regulator previously mentioned some form of on-growler hose storage would be a very welcome improvement. Carrying the growler with the keg cap attached leaves a good amount of hose dangling.
Expectations Fell Short
I really wanted to like this and wanted it to work - I am a gadget geek and when I saw that this worked with my 1 gallon DrinkTank I was excited. However, expectations run short, the seal between the replacement lid and the growler bleeds off the Co2 to quickly - The small Co2 canisters that comes with this system is only enough to get through 1/3 of the gallon growler - So if you buy this, make sure you order more Co2 canisters before heading out on your next adventure (Amazon has them the cheapest) You'll need at least 5 of them to get you through a 1 gallon growler with this setup
Worked fine for first 2 fills
This worked great for the first 2 growler fills but the 3rd fill the growler no longer held pressure with the cap. One of the valves must have failed or the seal was no longer effective because once you pumped CO2 in the growler it wouldn't hold. I'm going to order a parts kit to replace the valves to see if that does the trick but it's too bad.
Handy dispenser
This cap makes it easier to use the growler, I do not have to keep opening & closing the lid to serve the beer. It does not come with instructions bu the online how to video clearly demonstrates how it is to be used.
Doesn't really hold press
You have add C02 overtime you want to pour a pint.
A good concept
The keg cap is a good idea for a mini keg. The lid, bails, and picnic tap are solid. The injector system, however, may need a little work. on my first attempt to use the system, the injector and cartridge leaked out completely. The company was very good about quickly sending a new injector. I have not tried it yet.
