Good design, not durable
I liked the fit and features of these pants, although they ran a little large in the waist. Zippered back pockets were nice and the thigh pocket was sufficient. What I did not like was the material. The blend of material is thin, not very stretchy, not very breathable, and not durable at all. It is not a great choice for hiking, and while it works better for climbing it is not durable enough. I noticed rips forming from pocket items within the first month of having these pants. After climbing in them more, the knee ripped two small holes which just kept tearing into a huge hole in the knee. Also the texture of the material often retains wrinkles and the mine looked somewhat deformed around the stitching even though I always washed cold and air dried. TLDNR: bad quality material, rips easy, not breathable or stretchy enough for climbing and hiking.
Great Pants, little snug
I bought these a few months ago while in Seattle, wore them for a hike there but have been wearing them at least once a week while back at school in South Florida. They are super comfortable, from day one. I did not think I would use the snap and roll at the bottom of the pants leg, but I find it is a handy feature for when I am walking around the house without shoes as the pants don't end up getting stepped on (also great in flip flops). As other users have said, they are a bit snug if you have a bulky wallet, keys etc in the pockets. I would give 4.5 if I could as this is just a minor inconvenience (for me) as I just put those in the bag I carry.
Great comfy pants
I recently bought a pair for hiking in the Redwood forest in Northern California and let me tell you that this pants are great. They are stretchy material that gives you enough room to feel comfortable hiking and doing any type of strenuous activity. I wore them for 3 day straight and didn't have any problems with the slim fit style. One thing to keep in mind is that the pockets are small and might not be as comfortable carrying your wallet and keys while you leap over things. This is the only down side to this pants.
Excellent pants!
Very nice material, seems like it will wear and wash well. Dries very quickly when hanging to dry which is a bonus for traveling. Ability to roll cuffs up helps to cool off when taking breaks hiking and works great for bike commuting as well. Fit is true to size. I’m built pretty solid so it’s not easy to find good-fitting pants like these in my size. Most outdoor-oriented clothing seems to mostly be suited to the tall, slender athletic builds instead of us that are a little more “stubby” ;) For that, I have to say thanks Mountain Hard Wear! These look trim enough to even wear for casual workwear which is a real plus! Highly recommend the AP pants.
Unimpressed. Color fades when wet. Shrinks
Buyer beware. I paid 90 bucks for a pair of pants because I expected them to be up to the rigors of outdoor use. Not so. I recently wore these on a trip to Alaska where we were outside a lot, and getting rained on A LOT. And when it wasn't raining the vegetation was still wet, so our legs still got wet hiking. After 5 hours of wet hiking, the color faded from the pants around the pockets anwhere there was a hard object (like a clip knife). So disappointing. Also they shrunk a lot when they dried out. And the stitching around the pockets is fraying after 8 days of admittedly tough wear. Cheap fabric and cheaper dye. Mountain Equipment is not what it used to be. Good for sipping Lattes in, but heaven forbid you have to scrub a stain off.
Awesome pants - until one of the seams came undone
I love the fit of these pants. The material is awesome! Like others have said they fit a little slim but no problem for me. After two months of casual wear the seam at the knee came undone, not something I expect from MH or this type of pant.
Great everything pants
After years of being a mountain hardware avid supporter, this is the first pair of AP pants I’ve ever owned. Apparently I’ve been missing the boat for way too long. These pants are incredible for about everything that you could do during the day. From wearing them to work with a nice polo, to finishing up the day at the rock gym, then grabbing a beer after these pants fit every part of the function of my day. They feel super durable and at the same time give me enough movement to do whatever I need to do. at 190, 6’1” and a 32-33 average waist line and a 33” inseam. The 32”-32” were perfect.
Good fit, appropriate for office and hikes
I like that they do not have logos all over the place, and are not overloaded with pockets and features such that they look ridiculous in an office environment- even the details around the knee are subtle enough to not be overly conspicuous. I've also taken them out on hikes, and have been pleased with how comfortable they are- the stretch is just right, and the articulated knees really do make the pants more flexible. They do 'hug' the lower body a bit and taper, so the styling might not be to everyone's taste. The zippered back pockets are another feature that I appreciate, though again, not necessarily everyone's taste. I've bought two pairs in different colors, I like them so much. Highly recommend these.
Not a good climbing pant
As a climbing pant, 1 star. The thighs in these are very slim, no gusseted crotch, and rigid fabric. As a climber, I work my legs a lot, so my thighs and calves are muscular, and they need room to flex and stretch. All this is a bad recipe when it comes to these pants. Oddly enough, even when not climbing, the thighs are so narrow they actually pull down on the waist. So they haven’t been functional around town either. I would recommend trying these on in person to ensure they’ll work for your body type and build. Then you won’t eat shipping two ways,
Greatest climbing pants ever
These are the best climbing pants money can buy! I checked other brands for awhile before deciding on these. Even the top rated ones seemed too thin and just felt like they would wear out super fast especially on gritty gym walls. These hold up great. I bought two pairs, and I don't wear any other pants climbing now. They run big in my opinion. Order down. I'm 5'9, 173 lbs. I ordered a 32W, 28L and they fit perfectly... So glad they have 28L...a lot of other brands only go down to 30L, but I hate rolling up my pant legs. It's much better when they just come down to the top of your shoes. Oh, and I'm a church pastor...these things are nice enough that I wear them to the office and less formal meetings and go right to the gym afterwards.
