How to set up your REI Co-op Kingdom tent for the first (or fifty-first) time. Watch the video above.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeps our the water and bugs This tent adequately for my 4 kids and my husband and I, with room to spare. I appreciated the outside fly acting as a vestibule because it kept the kids' smelly shoes outside the tent! The tent was very waterproof, which was extremely important to me. I gave this tent 4 stats instead of 5 because I'm not a fan of the new color scheme because it has no indication of what side the fly goes on. Even on the directions it still reminded you to match the colors (orange with orange, gray with gray) that don't exist with this year's colors. Also. We bought the footprint with the tent, which also had is matching the non existent colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with this purchase. We are really happy with this tent. It takes a little practice to get proficient at setting it up but once you have it, it's simple "with 2 people". It absolutely Poured for 4 hours the second day of our trip and this tent stayed dry as a bone! right out of the box. It's got a ton of room and excellent ventilation. If I had any complaints it would be the weight but even then, for what it is it's really not that heavy. It packs down very nicely and could be hauled by an adult on a family backpacking trip. There are some good youtube videos that will help with learning to set it up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good so far Used 2 weekends so far, one with heavy rain stayed dry and held up well. Set up is relatively easy once you figure it out, included instructions not so great. There is some you tube stuff on setup. Get the footprint.....I still think REI could just print on the footprint what side goes up (shiny side) I have a hard time figuring out "shiny". I am a backpacker...bought this to try camping with the wife I think it is a great tent. Here is my tip to REI...if you color coded the matching corner of all 3 pieces...footprint, tent, rainfly.....it would simplify things. Bottom line I think it is a great tent, I took away one star because I did not know how to give it a 4.5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturgis 75th Rally tested! We have had our Kingdom 8 for three seasons now. Last summer we went out west for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Anybody that has been there knows the storms come in fast and hit hard. Last summer was no exception. I can't say enough about how great the Kingdom was and how well it did vs. all the other tents. The next morning we woke up to clothes and sleeping bags laid out or hanging all around the campground. I seriously think we were the only tent that didn't have an issue at all. Our stuff was bone dry (except my boots that I forgot outside the tent!). I'm not exaggerating one bit. The camp site was a mess and we were dry. This tent has seen a lot but nothing like that night. So worth every penny we spent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect car camping tent! I LOVE this tent! We bought it last year, used it 3 times in the first month. We are a family of 3 plus 1 large dog. There is plenty of room for me to stand up straight (I have a bad back, so really important to me), plus there's plenty of floor space. We got the garage and couldn't be happier with it, during a storm it worked out perfectly cause we fit 2 motorcycles in it, plan on getting another garage for the other side. This tent is so cool that one of our friends that saw it bought the same one right after us!! I am always bragging to people about my awesome tent, well worth the price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Tent Ever Purchased I have been through numerous tents over the years. I probably spent more on replacing tents in the past than I spent on this one tent. We have owned it for 2 years now and still absolutely love it. My boyfriend and I have a double high queen air mattress that we sleep on in the tent, plus our two 75 lb dogs and one extra large dog crate. We also just recently purchased the garage after reading all of the reviews on how wonderful of an addition it is. All in all, I highly recommend this tent to anyone. REI really backs up their products and never disappoints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Car Camping Family Tent Used this on a RMNP trip in early June. Set up in the rain, using the pretty straightforward directions sewn into the tent backpack, but after drying out, this tent was excellent. The footprint ended up being put on backward, so next time we'll look out for that. The smaller section of the tent is mostly mesh, so for cooler seasons I'd probably close the doors and have everyone in the rear of the tent to conserve heat. We owned a half dome in our pre-kid backpacking days, so I appreciate that my husband and I (5' 11" and 5' 10" respectively) can stand up in it. Our family of 5 were cozy and dry with plenty of room for our gear. I'm so glad we splurged on this tent, and may add the garage next annual sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome family car camping tent I bought this tent two weeks ago to replace our 6 person tent as our kids are getting older and we were also taking 2 of their friends with us on a camping trip. The tent exceeded our expectations. The reviews I found gave the tent positive ratings, but knocked it a bit for ability to deal with wind. Well...during our camping trip thunderstorms came through and we were about the only ones there without a worry. The tent is extremely well built and dealt with wind and all of our guests tremendously well. I would highly recommend this tent for anyone looking for a well made tent for a family.

How has this version changed from the previous version (the one with the orange accents)?

Asked by: DonnyS
As mentioned above the color scheme has changed and the walls are higher in the screened in porch. However several other items have changed. I just set my new one up tonight and here are the differences in the new model (2016) vs one I bought Labor Day 2015.  1. The doors no longer have 4 zippers. Instead each end has 2 zippers. It is one side or the other.  2. The window on the doors are now only cover half the door instead of the full door as the previous version.  3. No more pockets on sides of interior partition. Both rooms have 6+ pockets about a foot from the bottom.  4. Toggle Tie backs inside tent have been replaced with a plastic ring type clip.  5. Orange webbing on tent corners and fly are gone. Now everything is green makes orienting the fly in a hurry more of a challenge.  6. The tent bag is considerably bigger. No problem getting everything back in.  7. Tent was listed as 22lbs now I think it is about 19. So we are missing a bit of something.  I will post an actual review when I take it out for a few days and actually use it. My initial feeling is the new version is a step back not forward.

I found a small aluminum tube (about 5") that is like the tent pole in the package.  Please tell me what it this small tube used for.

Asked by: cakishop
The small tube is for emergency pole repair. If you break a pole, you slide the small tube over the broken area like a splint.

I realized the tent color on the website is different from what I see from elsewhere. I really like the orange accent color on the tent. Has this been replaced in the new version? Please kindly clarify. Thanks!

Asked by: wongsta
Yes the color was orange in 2015 this year it is green.   Some a few posts up talk about the changes in side but my family and I like the orange.

In some photos the rear section appears shorter than the front. Is it? If so, what is the peak height in the back?

Asked by: Earlmuck
The peak height of the Kingdom 8 Tent will be 6'5" throughout the length of the tent.

Would a Kingdom 8 tent be stronger in a storm compared to a Kingdom 6 because of the extra centre pole assuming all guys are out and tight of course. Difference in cost is minimal and I want the strongest tent I can get

Asked by: Moondog55
I found the k8 to work well in the summer. Not so much for any other season Overall I used it for 2 seasons and got rid of it for a more sturdy tent, plus not having replacement poles available in store but rather some third party site is just a poor equation for rei.

Will the Tech Connect Garage attach to both sides, or just one? (Specifically, the Sage/Platinum model.)

Asked by: TadaoBaba
The Connect Tech Garage will only attach to the front (the side with the zipper) of the Kingdom 8 Tent.

How is the ventilation with the rain fly on? We live in the south and do a lot of humid summer camping. We've had condensation issues before, and the lack of side windows are concerning.

Asked by: BobcatShooter
This tent offers little ventilation when the rainfly is staked out and lowered. However, if you open the doors at both ends of the tent, you'll likely have a nice cross-breeze moving through the tent.
