Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roomy and Sturdy Used this tent for the first time recently camping in Palo Duro Canyon, TX. It was perfect - the weather was extremely hot, so I left the fly off most of the time and the breeze came right through. But, two evenings the weather changed quickly to lightening, thunder, and heavy wind - the Kingdom 4 rain fly was easy to put on quickly, and the guy wires held everything in place. It was so roomy that I could put my camp chair inside while it was raining and watch the lightning show out one window. (it is made for 4 people, but I was using it alone). It is quality made, the metal stakes are thick, not flimsy, and the poles are sturdy too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great For Car Camping I'm not exactly sure when, but somewhere along the way I've gotten old! Crawling into my 2 man tent just isn't much fun for my back, so when I began planning a trip to Yellowstone last year, I decided to go for "Luxury Camping". I bought the Kingdom 4 tent and a Kingdom Cot. Both are excellent products. As for the tent - I slept for 23 consecutive nights in this tent in Yellowstone in May and June of 2016. It endured a few rain and sleet storms without letting a single drop in. It has a lot of room. My favorite feature is it's height. I don't have to crawl into it and can stand up inside - my back was very thankful. One person can set it up, although it takes a little effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid home Bought REI Kingdom 4 in 2012 w/ footprint & Hobitat Garage. It came with only 12 tent pins, so I bought 8 more for guy lines (we have Nor'easters in the NE/Maritime area). Stays dry during high-wind thunder storms. Been very comfortable during hard frost autumn camping. A long 3-season tent, and I wouldn't avoid winter camping with it if all guy lines are used. The over 6' ceiling impresses, broad shoulder room & white interior walls eliminate any sense of claustrophobia. The footprint is a must. The Hobitat Garage is great to have during long stretches of rainy weather. Very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crawl No More purchased the Kingdome 4 a few years ago when I reached my later 60's and my knees decided it was time to stop crawling into and out of tents. The other option was to not camp anymore...not really an option. I love the roominess, stability and flexibility of the tent. The roominess equates to comfort inside and out (the no crawl feature) of the tent ; the stability equates to the taunt pitch; the flexibility to the various combinations for exposure to the outside environment. With the addition of the "garage", one can spend the entire day indoors, and still feed oneself if one is forced to do so. I shopped for several years until this tent came along. The design, REI quality and the price made the decision an easy one.I

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great for car camping but poles are very weak I have owned this tent for about 5 years but only use it 1 or 2 times a year for a week long car camping trip. Each time I have used it, a tent pole has invariably snapped. I have repaired 3 poles and just this past summer, 3 poles snapped again, so now the totally will be 6 times I have repaired the tent poles. We camp ALOT and know how to treat a tent. We definitely do not pull on the tent, pole, etc. We love the tent for it's roominess and ease of setting up, but if another tent pole snapped, the cost and inconvenience may not be worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent! We love this tent! We are an older couple that isn't ready to move into a RV yet and this tent is nice and spacious. After our 1st trip we bought the footprint and garage which adds a nice area out of the sun and wind but not actually in the tent. My husband is 6'2 and loves being able to stand up in it. It held up nicely during a wind/snowstorm that put down 3" of snow on our last trip. And the vestibule and garage work great at keeping out the rain and snow.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from only for fair weather We purchased this tent a couple months ago for our growing family with the hope of it lasting many years, as most of our gear has. Unfortunately, after 1 trip to the desert, it was destroyed. One of the end support poles snapped and pierced the rainfly and another pole was bent but still usable. We found another rip in the rainfly on the opposite corner from where the pole broke as well. The second trip out we were already patching the rainfly and rigging the tent pole so that we could still use the tent. If you plan to camp when there is zero wind, this tent is probably great, but if there is even light wind in the forecast, I would not recommend this tent for your adventure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roomy, high quality We are very impressed with this tent. It sets up in about 10 minutes and is extremely roomy and comfortable. Highly adjustable ventilation with the windows and doors. My wife and I, along with our dog found it to be very uncluttered. Plenty of room for two mattresses with bags, a small dog crate, which doubles as a night stand, a heater and a porta potti. We added the garage, which was really great to store our chairs, chuck box, and lantern. We feel very spoiled in this tent. We were Eureka and kelty tent owners. Now it's REI. Ironically, there were 2 other REIs camped near us. Buy this with confidence

Questions & Answers

Can one person set up this tent alone, or does it require at least two people?

Asked by: Melis
The Kingdom 4 Tent can be set up by one person provided they are tall enough to reach the center pole and clip the tent body. The peak height of this tent is 6 foot 3 inches.

What is the tents ability to handle wind. Is there a tested wind speed?

Asked by: FireBC
I used this tent in the Desert Southwest this Spring. Completely pegged out (x18) it endured steady breezes of 15-20 mph with gusts to 35 mph with no troubles. Setting it up solo under those conditions might be difficult though. (see my notes on solo set up elsewhere in this forum.) This is using the 2016 model. I had to return last year's (2015) version because the poles bent badly after just a few uses. One pole had 3 bent sections and another had one severely bent section.

What is the maximum wind capacity for this tent?

Asked by: Whiskey33
Just spent the weekend in vantage, wa where it was hating up to 47 and winds were sustained at 37. Not sure if the tent would've made it 100% on its own but we used nylon rope to go back and forth between each of the 3 over tent poles and a large tree and we stayed put the whole time and the poles sustained hardly noticeable bends. These winds were gnarly and that's just what was reported at the weather station - could've been gusting more than that and the tent made it.

I have a queen air mattress 16" x 58" x 76". Will it fit through the door? What other 4 person tents will accommodate the mattress through the door?

Asked by: RedDog02
Your air mattress will not fit through the door of the Kingdom 4 Tent while it is fully inflated. We suggest inflating the air mattress inside the tent or finding a tent with a much wider door.

What changes were made to the Kingdom 4 for 2016?   I noticed that the color is different. Are there any additional changes?

Asked by: CRP
No interior divider (not missed!); mesh ceiling only- the previous version's mesh extended down to the coated tub-sidewall on one half (was nice in hot weather but a weakness during driving wind or rainstorms); interior stash pockets line both sidewalls at tub level; the door zipper design is improved (but could still be a bit beefier- nobody's backpacking with this small RV sized shelter); The orientation of the door screens are changed from a bi-vertical to a single upside-down half moon with an improved (i.e. more conventional & proven) zipper operation. The previous design required mandatory bottom venting before allowing top venting (not good); a couple of the velcro tabs that seal the garage to the tent awning do not match or are missing one half (I'm using last year's garage with this year's tent but the tabs didn't match up with the original, either!); Rainfly guy-line pull-out tabs are more securely sewn. (guy-line attachments on the tent body would be useful if not using the fly).

In reading the reviews, it would appear the rain fly doesn't keep rain out as one side is partially exposed. Do y'all sell an add-on rain fly to fix this problem?

Asked by: Recondo0321
The Kingdom 4 Tent has a zip-up panel on the door to prevent rain from entering the tent where the rainfly is not full coverage. If additional protection is desired, a Kingdom Garage is available separately. This accessory also provides additional storage space:

Bonjour, After looking at the video I have a question. Is the garage come with the tent or you have to buy it a part? Thank you!

Asked by: Théo
The Kingdom Garage is sold separately and can be found via the link below.
