Outstanding trainer plus InRide gives it depth
This package is a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine 2.0 plus their InRide module (not including heart rate monitor strap). The trainer itself is very well reviewed, I picked this over the similar Cyclops Fluid2 model because the Kinetic offers a slightly wider base and increased stability. Of course this means it is a little heavier as well. The kinetic also seemed smoother riding to me, but the difference was small. Both are far quieter than any magnetic trainer. I purchased the one with the InRide module without much thought, but now that I have it, I love it! It really makes the trainer experience more immersive, and gives you goals to work on which drives you to perform. The iPhone app (on a 6S Plus) installed easily and simply. It gives you a broad range of workouts, plus the ability to make custom ones. It has well calibrated data (see the Kinetic site -- they put some serious thought into this module). It also lets you upload to Strava, MapMyFitness and other such sites. I see one review here complaining about the InRide app on Android -- the Kinetic website does say their android app in beta/testing stage, but it definitely appears to be FREE. The iOS app is definitely FREE will run on iPhone 4, 5, 6, iPads including mini, and even the iPod touch. Overall, a stellar trainer with data analysis that is unheard of at this price point. Simply brilliant.
Perfect
Great simi-smart trainer, went to this after fluid 2, which is good but resistance is not as consistent as with this trainer. The road machine is super smooth and consistent and works well with Zwift. Power meter is supposed to be within 2-3% for most work outs, which is nice. I have connected to my older Mac and also an Android with little issue. Just remember this is bluetooth so only one device at a time can recognize it, unlike ant+. Set-up was easy and everything was already assembled out of the box. The only negative so far is the Cadence reading is a bit sporadic if you don't spin super smoothly. Recommend highly!
Excellent Smart trainer
I'm very pleased with this product. Seeking a trainer for the winter months and this unit has performed very well. Quiet in the operation and the Smart function can be easily synced with my cell phone. The app is a great tool for cadence, time, calories, and heart monitor. I endorse this product.
Pretty Good Trainer
Got this for last winter season, used this enough to have a good idea of what it can do. It does what it advertises to do, and it's not life changing (because why would it be?). The only issue I had was the battery on the sensor dead on arrival, which wasn't hard to replace. The app was free, and did what it was supposed to do. Getting it to work with Zwift was a little finicky in the beginning, but after time you learn the process of getting the trainer to pair with Zwift. TLDR; it does what it supposed to do. This is a fine buy if you're wondering
Still Hoping
I have wanted a trainer for a few years and did some research before settling on this one. The built in Bluetooth link to my phone was a selling point as was comparative price and quality as reviewed by users. It worked great for the first 2 months, but an update to the Android app has made the simple process of uploading workouts to Strava a (completely manual) pain. This aside I think this is a quality product below the price of comparable machines.
Huge disappointment
I chose this trainer over lower priced ones for the training app, but nowhere does REI mention that you have to shell out an additional $130 for the app, or that you better have an Apple phone for the app to work right. Bought it today, spent two hours trying to get an Android app to work, no luck so it's going back to REI tomorrow.
Poor customer service by Kinetic
Trainer works as expected. Smart sensor is difficult to work with. battery dead on arrival though I purchased at full price. Poor instructions regarding pairing the sensor with inride app and no tips for trouble shooting. Less than ideal customer service by Kinetic (limited customer service hours, long response latency, wouldn’t send new battery). REI bike shop was super helpful. Kudos to Barry at the Plymouth Meeting, PA shop.
Makes getting a ride in possible, regardless of th
I've only had this for 2 weeks, but it replaced and older model that I got a lot of use out of! This is all shiny and new...and quiet!! The tension is great! You can really work up a sweat!!
Easy trainer
Sets up easily, rides smoothly. App is not as intuitive as I would like. If you just want to train indoors and don't need the tracking, I would not get the Smart Trainer.
Quality doesn't match price
Low quality product, high price. The adjusting piece is made of cheap plastic that cannot support the heavy piece attached to it and breaks easily. If the adjustment piece was made of quality metal this could be a good product. Until that change is made I don't recommend this product.
