Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for anyone who needs solid protection and good comfort. I use this helmet for snowboarding pretty much every week-end and it is excellent for anything from park riding to back country. I have taken some huge drops onto knuckles and stuff and this helmet felt good even after those. Overall, if you are looking for something that is good quality and will protect you with all the style you need, this helmet is for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great helmet especially after adding the skull candy Bought this helmet last season after hemming and hawing for years about leaving the beanie behind and moving to a helmet. This helmet is very comfortable and can be at times a little warm. The addition of earphones has made riding solo a lot more fun. The ear pieces are easily removed if you so desire and the chin strp doesn't chafe like others. This helmet was well worth the money and I would buy it again. I no longer worry about the random inverted flight on the slopes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good looking, fair fit, light weight but too warm for my use. (29 degrees) I bought this helmet for use when I teach and ski with my grand kids. I wanted a light weight helmet that I thought would keep me warm but not too warm as I tend to over heat easily. Unfortunately this helmet is just not vented enough for me. That's too bad because I like the looks and it is really light which was a feature that I really wanted.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Comfortable, thick frame Without vents that can be closed, I planned to wear my hood over the helmet to keep warm on windy days. Unfortunately the foam of the helmet is much thicker than most and I was unable to get (large) hood over the top. A small problem but hard to know before trying it out. Otherwise a very comfortable helmet with plenty of adjustment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great helmet for the price I purchased the 2013 Holt model in Large/Black. I was looking for something that was stylish, comfortable, had great features, and came from a reputable company. The TL;DR version of this review: Awesome helmet, would buy it again in a second. Now for the long version... I'll admit, this is my first helmet. After many years of riding, it took me a long time to convince myself that I needed one, partially (and stupidly) because I just couldn't stand how they cramp on my style. I made up my mind one fine night while sharing a few beers with a Neuroscientist friend of mine, who specializes in Traumatic Brain Injuries. He convinced me that we should be WALKING AROUND with helmets on, let alone wearing one while flying down a mountain made of ice. This was pretty much all the persuasion I needed, so I started looking. Finding a helmet that fits your head properly can be tricky. For me, most other helmets made my head look huge. Not so with the Smith Holt. It has plenty of protection while keeping the overall size to a minimum so your noggin' doesn't start affecting when the tides come in. Everyone has their own unique skull shape so this might not hold true in every case, but if you suffer from self image problems like I do (and most every other person riding the mountain), check Smith helmets out. The comfort is top notch. I don't feel like I'm wearing a helmet at all, and it keeps my head the perfect temperature no matter what the weather conditions are. I can't give beanies that kind of cred - they are either are too hot and itchy, or too cold and....itchy. When purchasing I also tried on many different goggles from various brands. While this helmet didn't make any of them look bad, I couldn't shake what the sales rep told me about the seamless integration features with Smith goggles. He had me try on a few, and I was so impressed I ended up purchasing the Smith I/OX models (Fantastic goggles, by the way. Probably the best I've ever used). So lets review 3 key points here: - Looks awesome - It's comfortable - Looks AND functions better with Smith goggles Couldn't get much better than that, right? Fortunately for me, no. I found a little easter egg that made me even happier about my purchase. The ear pads that come with the helmet also zip apart so you can insert your favorite headphones. They have a special space for them that is about the size of a poker chip. Luckily for me I'm an audiophile and had an extra pair lying around that I could easily disassemble without destroying (For other audiophiles out there, the headphones I used were the Koss PortaPro). They fit perfectly in the ear pads and still maintain most of their volume/sound quality. Couple these with the OT Adapt bluetooth adapter made by outdoor technology and you have yourself an amazing setup. Needless to say, I love this helmet. Go to your favorite shop, buy one and throw in your favorite headphones. Your brain will thank you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too round, ear flaps would easily let in cold air I had tried on other smith helmets in the store before buying this and thought it would have a similar fit. This one seemed rounder and the ear covers would let in a lot of cold air. It's a super thick helmet. Looks more like something a helicopter pilot would wear. That said, it feels solid and protective. If I had a rounder head and were more hard core in my skiing/snow boarding efforts it would get a higher rank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great beginner helmet I bought this helmet because I was looking for something affordable and comfortable that would keep my ears warm, and protect my head when riding. Perfect timing because the same day I bought it, I took a tumble and it saved me from a headache. Great helmet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Already proven itself This helmet is awesome for the price! It fits perfectly, and the adjustments are easy. There are more vents than I thought on it, which is great, and it has already proven itself after I wiped out on the mountain and came out fine. Great purchase.

I am about to do a 6 day mountaineering/climbing course. Am I able to use this helmet for the course?
