After hiking in it for 9 miles in Mohonk

ordered it from REI as I fell in love with the color and the design, and it's function as a trekking shoes which usually has good sole support when the hiker carries a 30-40lbs weight. Didn't want to wear it for a through-hike without trying it for a local / daily hike. Overall, it's not too bad compared to the price ($140 on sale). However, it did give me some pain on the heel especially for uphills as there is not enough cushion / support even with my thick hiking socks. Does not have good traction on wet surface, almost slipped two times. The ankle support is too hard, rubbing against my foot. Additionally, the lace got stuck in third clasp, "I cannot take off my shoes' is definitely not something you want after long-day hike. The sole has okay support, I am comparing it to Zamberlan's shoes, may be not fair to Arc'teryx. I don't see myself wearing it for a multi-day hike, unfortunately, have to take it back to REI>

Disappointing

Bought these at one of my local gear shops in Alaska and was pretty excited about them, but they barely lasted 200 miles (I backpack a lot in the summers) before holes started appearing and seams began to fall apart. One of the first Arc’teryx products I’ve ever been disappointed in. Before the holes they were wonderful in regards to waterproofing, but otherwise they weren’t that comfortable and the ankle supports rubbed weird.

Concept 4/5 Execution 1/5

The Good: Built in gaiters! Good ankle support Two loops for hanging The Bad: Poor durability No ability to adjust inner ‘sock’ First these boots gave me giant blisters on my heels. There is no ability to adjust the inner lining which the gaiter is attached to so the rubbing ended up inevitable. I put on mole’s skin and tried again the next weekend. Mole’s skin solved most my problems. The rubber doesn’t fully cover the toes. So getting water in your shoes while crossing creeks any taller than your toes is unfortunate. And the rock that broke the camels back? Oh wait, gave it away. While hiking my foot came up against a rock which just sliced the toe open. All the way through the rubber. So that was it. Back to REI they go. Cannot recommend...at all? Like unless you’re hiking in an area without rocks and any chance of water coming over your toes.

Gaiters are built in

Why don't you show or tell about the gaiters attached to the boot? I ordered 8.5, my usual size, and although the shape of the boot was great, it was too small when I put on a sock.

Cinderella’s All-Terrain Slippers

These boots were made for my feet! I’ve only worn them on four short, easy hikes, so I don’t have an assessment on their durability or longevity yet. After decades of wearing boots that are too wide or have too much volume, I’ve finally got a pair of narrow, low-volume boots that fit perfectly. No more sliding around inside my boots and risking ankle turns. The Goretex bootie is a little odd and, like many others, I wish it was removable and interchangeable. I might hand-sew some short waterproof zippers in the fronts for easier on-off and to help the elastic cuffs last longer, which seems to be a common issue in the reviews. Reviewers have had many fit complaints—too narrow, low volume, low instep, difficult to get into, which I can understand, but it’s also the reason I ordered them. My feet are built like skis—super narrow, very long (11), and attached to skinny Olive Oyl ankles. I just hope these boots last a long time. The sale price was fabulous, but I can’t justify Arc’teryx prices for the kind of light hiking I generally do!

Keepers

My wife has a slender long foot with a low instep. This boot seems to work well for her. Her first outing was a 6 mi trek in the kettle moraine of SE Wisconsin, without paying much attention to socks, so she blistered both heels. However the boots were a dramatic supportive improvement to her broken down pair that have completed 20+ Adirondack peaks and a handful or 14ers in Colorado. Once we get socks right we don’t anticipate problems. The built in gaiters are a blessing underway.

Great on hiking tall grasses in summer Colorado

The item mentioned a liner but they really work more like gaiters on the top section with the rubber band. They are perfect for hiking tall grasses, and avoiding rocks or bugs on your feet. It's a switch from hiking in my salomons but it's a welcome switch, they are so soft and comfortable!
