Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive + Terrible Quality Last year I purchased half a dozen SmartWool crew socks for the winter. As I get older I am always cold and I hate cold feet. These socks were expensive, but they felt so warm and devine on my feet I decided that they were worth the investment. I have no problem buying expensive clothing when it is well-made and will last. Besides it seems like the right thing to do rather than buy lots of cheap stuff that has to be given away because it wears poorly. A few months later I was shocked. Every single pair had holes in the heels and on the balls of my feet. Not little holes but huge spots where the wool had worn away. I had taken care to wash these socks with all my delicates on the gentle cycle. Sometimes I dried on the gentle cycle sometimes I just aired dry. Today I threw away the last of the 6 pairs because they are unwearable. I didn't even wear them in the summer, just in the winter. For most of the pairs the holes eventually just ripped entirely open to be huge gaping holes. I am genuinely disappointed. REI consistently carries high quality products. I have not had any other experience with SmartWool products but after this experience don't think I will take the chance. I have seen their socks on sale for 50% off in the Outlet. I am not even sure they are worth that price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, Stylish, Durable I bought the first pair of these socks for my wife a few years ago - since then they have become a favorite of hers and she now has several other pairs. Regardless of her planned activity, she wears them daily. The originals are still alive and kicking - they have proven extremely durable even though she frequently wears them around the house without shoes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from These do NOT STAY UP!!! While I love smartwool's ski/snowboard tall socks, which I'll wear daily once the temps drop, these socks leave much to be desired. They simply will NOT stay up, which drives me crazy all day long. The only redeeming qualities are the black color & cable pattern which look good with office attire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm wool, dressy, thin socks I love wool socks, esp these SmartWool Cable II socks. I bought 6 prs, and gave 2 to my teen daughter. We love that they are warm, keep your feet dry (cold feet still sweat and makes for even colder feet), absorb odors, and these are thinner than SW's other socks to fit in dressier or narrow shoes. They don't squeeze at my ankles, nor pinch in the seams and are very comfy. Can't stand bulky socks in shoes and the next 1/2 size up shoe is many times too big. We both had worn KB wool socks, which were fabulously thin and warm, but after about 4-5 winters, they are threadbare in the heels and balls of feet, & KB no longer makes wool socks, hence this SW purchase. I've turned our whole family & my in-laws onto wool socks bec winters in NE are frigid! They key to make expensive wool socks last - wear slippers w them (Haflinger wool slippers from Germany are awesome!), wash in cold, delicate cycle, & hang dry.

I need to know the toe seam on the socks you sell, there is no mention of it. I require a smooth toe seam due to extremely sensitive foot skin.
