I've had these boots for about 4 months and have logged about 50+ miles in them so far on some rough, rocky alpine trails and some snow. I love these boots. They were comfortable right out of the box, the break in period I was expecting was pretty much non-existent, and I have never gotten blisters wearing these yet. They are truly waterproof, I wore these hot mamas snowshoeing in Mammoth after a storm and surprisingly my feet remained completely dry and relatively warm considering it was 14 degrees outside. I don't think you can go wrong with this boot, they are comfortable, well-made, and pretty dang sexy. The ladies love em!
I'm in the PNW and was looking for a specific boot that was: - comfortable - waterproof - decent arch support, or room for a Superfeet insert - $150 or less This boot met those criteria perfectly. There is no removable insert, so I was hesitant about trusting the built-in arch support, but it's been fantastic. My feet will get hot unless I'm wearing very thin Smartwool socks, so keep that in mind. I've walked on asphalt and trails and everything has been very comfortable. Almost no break-in period. I've splashed around in puddles and no water has gotten inside. I would definitely recommend these shoes, and I would buy these again myself.
This shoe fit my criteria for a light hiker with a low heel drop and flexible enough to allow for natural foot movement. Waterproof is useful for keeping snow out. Uppers: Just covers the ankles, definitely low for a mid. Good amount of flex in the leather and ankles, designed to protect your ankles from debris, not lock them in place. Waterproof: I stood in water covering the top of the foot and no water penetrated. Leather upper repels water and snow effectively. (No WPB liner will ever stop water or snow coming over the top your boot, so plan accordingly.) Sole: Flexible sole with good support. You can feel rocks without discomfort, but still wouldn't want to land too heavy on a sharp rock if you can avoid it. No insole: Thought this would be a problem at first but the simplicity is nice. There is enough support built in to not need my Superfeet Blue, which is nice so I don't need to worry about the insole ruining the waterproof inner. Sizing: True to Merrell sizing.
Always hiked with heavier backpack boots. Bought these for long day hikes and hotter days. Was not sure what to expect. Wow - first day, no break in; big hike up in the Flatirons area around Boulder. Rock scrambles, steep inclines, added micro spikes for some snow and ice, lots of miles. No blisters, not even a hot spot. Felt great support, but also felt like I was wearing an athletic shoe. Integrated foot bed was great (I usually have to replace as I have high arches). Feel like buying another pair for when these wear out (likely a ways off!) Great product.
Picked these up and took them on a 20 mile round trip to Willett hot springs in Sespe (Ojai,CA). Had to cross multiple rivers (waist high at most) during the trek on all sorts of terrain and these beauties held up great. Feet were comfy wet or dry, and not 1 single blister after the trip. Decent ankle support, but not overbearing and very light. Great boot for the cash.
I love these boots! They are so comfortable.I wanted a lighter weight option but I'm not a fan of cross trainers in the back country like many UL hikers are doing these days. These really fill the gap between hiking boot and trail shoe. The soles have held up great after 3 trips this summer in the Sierra with weight on my back and many miles of day hikes near my home in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Sizing is true I wear a 12 in everything else and ordered a 12 and they fit great. The toe box is roomy. Zero break-in time and waterproof works. My feet are very happy
Best day hiking shoe I've had. Probably not the best for extneded backpacking. Lightweight. The soles have an excellent grip. They are strong enough to level out most of the bumps in the trail, but still have some flexibility, which helps with the grip. Good ankle support, for a day hiker. Only comes in medium width, so going up one size gave excellent fit for wide foot.
I'm a gal with wide, high volume feet. I usually buy mens boot to get enough room in them. These are the most comfortable boots straight out of the box that I've ever had. At first was wasn't sure about not having a removable insole, but it has turned out to be one of the best features about the boot. My foot nestles down into the boot perfectly, with no heel slide, no hot spots, and great arch support. Lots of room in the toe box so I don't get scrunched or sore toes. Enough ankle support for general day hiking and snow shoeing.
First off, I own the low top version of these, but I assume both are about the same. I've worn Keens now for a while due to the larger toe box, but haven't been happy with the quality. I really liked the Merrell Moabs, but the toe was always too narrow for me. I always thought, "Why can't Merrell make a boot in the shape of their trail glove?" Well, someone heard me, as that's the best way I can describe the All out Blaze! This boot has a nice wide toe box and a pretty tight heel; my toes never feel cramped in this boot. I've done sprinting in these, as well as hikes up in the mountains with a 45+lb pack, and these boots deliver! Coupled with Merino wool socks (Fits or Smart Wool), I've yet to have any kind of blister or hot spot. Even while getting rained on and crossing streams, my feet felt absolutely comfortable! The last thing you want to worry about on a hike is your feet, and while wearing the All out Blaze, my feet were never anything I had to think about. The soles on these are super grippy, and purely amazing! While crossing streams using wet logs, or while rock scrambling on wet rocks, these shoes never slipped once! I was always ready to go down due to the wicked slick surface, but these boots never once gave in. These boots are also very light, which is a welcome surprise while hiking, or doing any kind of running/sprinting. I wear a 14 in the Trail Gloves, and that's what I ordered for these, and they fit perfect.
I recently went up to the North Cascades and spent 10 days in these boots doing some light/medium hiking, without ever wearing them before I got there. Not only were they comfortable, they kept my feet dry and provided an agile platform to hike on daily. I can't say enough good things about these boots. I wish there was a slightly taller, zero drop version of this shoe, but these will do until something like that comes out. Fit was true to my Merrell Tough Gloves, Trail Gloves, and Reach/Radius Gloves.
