Unfortunately, these ripped on day 1 and Merrell has chosen to do nothing other than offer me 30% off ANOTHER pair. Are you kidding? I can't imagine spending MORE money with them and sadly, I won't. One of my favorite brands of the past has gone the way of all the corporate monsters, prizing profit over quality while I continue to believe that both can live in reasonable harmony if your profit motive is not grotesque. Definitely disappointed and hope no one else has this issue although we did see a few similar reviews of these shoes (AFTER the fact) on other sites;(
Day one, they ripped. Not water proof even resistant.
I like these a lot: They have a nice wide/not too wide footprint. They have good ankle support. They have great traction. They are very comfortable. The waterproofing worked well (as it should because they are new). My only complaint is that padding on the ankles makes them pretty wide at the ankle and that tends to catch debris and funnel it down into the shoe... so they are not my pick for places where there is a lot of trail debris.... or perhaps I should have used gaiters. But they are perfect for wet, slippery, or dry trail conditions and casual wear. To me, the picture makes them look like they have green trim: They are shades of grey, not green--I was pleasantly surprised by that, and I think they are a good-looking pair of shoes.
this is a one star on the online ordering service. my order was cancelled 2 times for unknown reasons. i even used two different credit cards.. i used the same cards for other Rei order before i tried to order these boots and those went thru... nothing wrong with the credit card as its currently in use for amazon and other purchases. i even called customer service and they could not tell me why it keeps getting cancelled . now have to buy else where because even if the order went thru now its not in time for my trip.. thanks for nothing rei!
These guys are more of a very stiff (which is good) heavy duty tennis shoe. They have fantastic tread, are very comfortable, and are very light. But I've noticed that hiking with them that they are so light they have a tendency to not provide "complete" top ankle support when tied and allow a bit of ankle wobble at times. So, like I said great for a fantastic well-made pair of heavy-duty tennis shoes with very healthy tread, but not really the best mountain trail hikers.
I looked at the Waterproof label on these and assumed they were actually waterproof. But i played a round of disc golf in a couple inches of snow and my feet were wet (not soaked). Then I realized there were dozens of ventilation holes in them. Well, duh.! I would say water resistant, not waterproof.
Love these! Broke in very quickly and very comfortable! The grip on bottom is super helpful when hiking on hills and rocks! I broke mine in hiking over 35 miles in 6 days throughout Missouri and Arkansas! My feet hurt way less than with any other shoes I have previously hiked in.
Amazing shoes & design, lots of room in the toe BUT knocked down a star cuz they are pretty hard on the bottom without buying orthos/insterts. Kinda let down but after swapping, (and extra money 🙄) they are my new fav boots for hiking
We hiked all over Iceland with these, and they were 100% waterproof and tough enough for every trail! Unfortunately, they have a very hard knot where the tongue meets the side, so with thinner boot socks, it was quite painful.
this is a replacement for a pair of leather ones i had years ago.. I chose this colors because to a 79 year old they look good...
