Lacing these up for their second use and the loop separated from the shoe. Looking closely, it only appears as if there was one thread attaching it in the first place. Yikes! I've had great experiences with Merrell's in the past. Not sure if these were assembled in a new factory, quality control missed it, or if it is just bad luck. Disappointed and only good thing is that it happened right after receiving versus further down the road.
First time getting an opportunity to hike in these boots and they just were outstanding dream was no issue no slip issue on rocks no issues navigating through some down trees and mud.
Bought these as a work shoe as I work in hvac and am anywhere from rooftops to crawl spaces, outdoors in the woods to city sidewalks. They are very comfortable and keep my feet dry in the rain and breathe enough so I don’t sweat like crazy in the hot attics. The sole has enough grip to keep me from slipping on wet banks. I feel like I have some extra spring in my step with the thick cushiony heel on these boots. My only complaint is the elastic cord for the lace eyelets. On the left boot the cord is cut too long inside the shoe and if my foot is pressed up against anything on the outside it hurts. Other than that I’m very pleased.
I bought one pair and liked them so much I bought a second. A bit pricey, but the tan color was on sale. Great fit - combines excellent cushioning with great support. Super comfortable traversing steep, difficult terrain. And waterproof. Note I bought the second pair not due to wear. But rather because Merrell sometimes changes shoes so much from season to season that a shoe you love one year may be a total non-option in its next version. Witness what Merrell did to ruin the Chameleon in out years
Excellent. Took this to Patagonia in November for 125km of hiking and it dealt with everything - waterproof for the most part, superb grip on all surfaces, comfortable under foot over rocks. I trusted the shoe’s traction on steep downhills and it was great. Maybe some slight concern about durability of the leather at the front seal and towards the edges. But overall a very good purchase and it looks great too.
I bought these for a hiking trip as a novice, and wanted something I could also use for rainy city commutes. These boots are exactly what I was looking for - I hiked 20 miles of rocky, snowy mountain trails and my feet never hurt, the waterproofing is excellent and my feet were never wet hiking through snow or on rainy days in the city. One caution - these are fairly low, so your ankles might get a little wet when walking for a while in the rain, but it’s worth the low profile style. I wear a 10 running shoe and a 9.5 fit perfect. I will be coming back to Merrell for all my hiking needs in the future!
After just three hikes, the sole began to detach, which was incredibly frustrating. I expected better durability from this product, considering also that is an expensive boot. I definitely do not recommend these boots based on my experience. I will think twice about buying Merrell in the future.
I have bought several pairs of Merrell Moab 2 low shoes. Extremely comfortable, but I would never consider them a true hiking shoe. More like a street boot. BUT, the Speed 2 is a whole different animal. I purchased the leather, waterproof mid boots and they are EXTREMELY comfortable and feel sure footed on the trail.
I bought these in April, 2025 and may be my 10th pair of Merrell's in the last 20 years. I have three more Merrell’s in my closet including another color of these because the ankle support is so good. But this pair has been leaking in the toe area unlike any of my others even though there are no obvious flaws. I am not rough on my shoes since I’m 5’10”, 170 lbs., 75 and do light yard work. Color me extremely disappointed that these are only summer shoes after 6 months of light wear in mostly dry weather.
