Good, but some issues

First trainer. I bought a magnetic trainer because I read that they were quiet, but this unit has a constant and distracting whine. A very basic unit that is well built and stable. Easy to assemble with only one confusing step, installing the tension knob. Uncomfortable ride until I raised the front tire the same height as the rear. My main complaint is that this trainer is designed to only work with bikes with quick release rear wheels. This eliminates most cruisers including mine. I was able to make it work by replacing the axle nuts on my bike, but it was a hassle, and others might not be as lucky.

Good for a beginner

This is the only stationary bike brand i have tried. I had a bad experience with a sub standard brand from cycle ops where the rotating wheel was plastic. However, the one i got from REI has a steel plating making it a smooth ride. Noise is an issue but if you are hearing to some music is not a major factor. If you have very ample time and need to get a good bike spin without going outside the house, consider buying this cheap option. It is only a month into my usage and i am not sure how long it will last but an REI employee who recommended this product had been using it for 3 years without any issues. He had to only change the rear tyre as it had worn out from extensive usage. Hope this helps, Happy biking

Good, But Needs Improvement

Once you finally mount your ride, it works as advertised. You can adjust resistance from the wheel easily and it's surprisingly fun to cycle. Fatal flaw, however, is that the lever to mount the rear tire is a total bear to close. Problem is a high-friction, curved slot in the hosing that the handle rod must travel across on its way to a locking detent. Despite oiling the sucker, I still had to ram-smack the heck out of it to make it engage. The upshot is a slow eating away of the handle rod as it scrapes across the slot--a decidedly un-groovy bit of engineering here. I decided to return it lest it break or I skin a knuckle.

Unit works very well. It was VERY easy to assemble and mount the bike on it. It does cause a little bit more noise than I would like but nothing I can't live with.

works just fine

It's the basic model; it was recommended by the sales associate. A little loud, but not enough that it's a huge deal

The trainer works well. It is very stable and is easy to set up and use. It isn't as loud as the sales person indicated it might be which is always a good thing.

It ain't what having learned under Ol' Benny F

Arrived earlier than predicted, assembled easily despite the almost helpful photo of line drawing 1.4 and while on line drawing 1.2 could use more clarity. If your last machine was an original 3 speed Schwinn, then the fact that the use requires the disassembly of the rear end is daunting otherwise a solid piece of machinery awaiting further funding. For aficionados it should be good but as a new kid on the block having to learn something not New Departure should be noted!

Bike trainers in wintertime

Purchased this for the missus, who is currently home with a newborn and can't get out to ride as much as she would like. As far as I know, she likes the trainer. I personally would probably need a more sophisticated trainer, but this trainer was inexpensive and works well.

The assembly instructions are not very good. Will probably have to take to REI and probably have to pay them to assembly the device correctly.

Check box before buying.

Three problems -- (1) The multiple language instruction sheet is an insult to customers. It is not specific to the product in the box, but to a family of products. The customer is forced to determine whether the parts shown on the instruction sheet are even applicable to what is supposed to be in the box. The drawings of the parts is not a complete list, does not provide an identification tag or number, and does not name the parts beside the drawing on the upper left side of the first sheet. (2) When I contacted the manufacturer, I was told that it "saves paper" to have the instruction sheet not specific to the product in the box. That is not correct. The instruction sheet was created by a person too lazy to properly write instruction sheets for each of the separate products. (3) Parts were missing from the box. REI is shipping the missing parts. Therefore, I cannot comment on how well this trainer will work. Note: it is a hundred mile drive to the nearest REI store. Therefore, check to make sure everything is in the box before leaving the store! I thank REI for quickly responding to a call for help on a Sunday. Parts should arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday.
