Very Nice Trainer

Had a CycleOps Mag that was great; went to exchange it for next model up with the "remote shifter". I commented on the vibrations (feeling it most in my hands) at various RPMs and learned that it is an attribute of the magnets which led to a discussion of fluid trainers. "Upgraded" to this one and what a difference. VERY smooth, quieter, NO vibrations; very realistic, "natural" resistance - peddling harder/faster harder/faster creates more resistance. Very pleased with this one; definitely worth the little extra it cost to upgrade (you get what you pay for). Very easy to setup and to attach/un-attach the bike. Very sturdy and stable.

Great Trainer

This is the third trainer I've owned. I was skeptical about the price but realizing that in this world you get what you pay for and after wearing out another trainer after just two winters I decided to pay-up. This is the first fluid resistance trainer I've owned and it has been worth it. This unit has a large tire contact shaft and has a wide stance so even when I'm out of the saddle cranking hard it's stable and solid. Tire doesn't slip. Set-up instruction were simple and fast. Great unit!

Will Keep Me Training while the Snow Flies

I bought this unit based on the positive reviews and I'm pleased to offer another positive review. The load is good enough that I'm able to emulate training rides on my bicycle. I'm using it with a 29er mountain bike that has street tires. The skewer fit my bike with no problems and I was up and riding in about ten minutes. I added a Cateye CC-VL520 bicycle computer with the sensor on the rear wheel to measure my mileage. That required some repurposed parts to make it fit, but I'm happy with the result.

Really Good Piece of Gear!

I have had the trainer for almost a year now. Bought it as insurance against bad weather when training for my first century ride last year. REI steered me towards this trainer and away from a more expensive one that I was considering. Got to love the folks at REI - they asked questions to figure out what I needed and gave me solid advice on selecting the best product for my needs. Easy set-up. Very solid and secure which is important to me since at 6' 6" I am a bit outside of the size range for most manufactures. Very realistic action with changes in speed and gears. Quiet and now signs of wear so far. I contacted the manufacturer for advice for best tire options for my old 27" wheels on the bike I am using on the trainer. Had one of the best customer service experiences EVER. Got great detailed and personalized advice as well as having all my questions answered. Very happy that I bought this trainer and that I bought it from REI.

So Far So Good

While I do not have a lot of miles logged yet, so far I have enjoyed the unit. I have roughly 200 miles logged and have no complaints, other than the instructions were not very clear on how tight to tighten down the unit. While dialing it in, I found that I could visibly see the frame (carbon) squeeze slightly, which makes me slightly concerned. I am using the skewer provided (yes there is 1 included, no need to buy an extra one unless you feel like having a spare) and finally decided that I would tighten until I could not feel any free movement on the rear wheel side to side - which was roughly an extra half turn from where I thought it was tight enough! The unit is quiet! which was shocking to my father who trains on a computrainer. In fact the chain made more noise on the occational rub against the front derailer (yes time for tune-up) than during high effort outputs. I suppose the best part is that the green matches the bike! Overall, I would rate this unit just under 5, 4.5 if the option was available.

Fantastic Trainer

I spent almost three months debating on whether or not to buy this trainer. I was at REI Nashville in January and decided to go for it. I'm a little timid when it comes to riding in the cold, and I wanted to remedy that with this trainer. It is such a great trainer, and it really gives you that resistance that you would feel from regular road riding. Now, I can ride my bike comfortably indoors while it's 15 degrees outside.

I LOVE this trainer!

I am rehabbing a broken leg and needed a really STABLE trainer. We had been given one by a friend, but the cups were plastic, and the bike kept falling out of it, not an ideal situation when you have a newly healed bone. This trainer (together with the front wheel support) is so stable, I am not scared that I am going to further damage my leg. Quiet and smooth operation. I can easily hear my music while I ride. So glad I spent the extra money to get this model.

A Great Trainer - Worth the Price

I bought the 2008 version of this trainer and have been using it for over 6 years now. It is durable and sturdy regardless of how vigorously I peddle. The trainer does a good job of approximating hills as you cycle through the gears. After trying a magnetic trainer, I was much more impressed with the feel of how this trainer changes as you adjust your gears to adjust how hard the ride is. Whether you’re looking for a way to train indoors for a major bike ride or just looking for a way to use your bike as fitness equipment at home without having to buy another large piece of workout equipment, this trainer will meet both needs. My only gripe has been that it took me a while to get the hang of holding up my bike and screwing down the part that holds onto the nuts of the tires to hold the bike in place. Overall, it’s a great product and I highly recommend it.

Smooth, Quiet, Sturdy, Enjoyable

I am submitting this review after approximately two weeks of use. This is an outstanding non-internet-connected trainer (I purchased the version without any connectivity). It sets up easy. Taking it out of the box and packaging, and unfolding the two front legs is all there is to it. Including the skewer with metal heads is terrific for those who don't already own one. Setting the back wheel onto the trainer is easy. The bolt on the resistance unit is easy to loosen and tighten; and the quick release elements/clamps are easy to turn for loosening and tightening. The knob ends are of a good size and material, which makes for comfortable turning of the the rods. I was able to easily set the back wheel in securely with my desired degree of tightness. The unit rides very quietly, not totally quietly. One does hear a little something, of course! I did not measure decibels, but, while using this trainer, I can easily hear someone speaking, or the audio from a radio or television. I am very pleased with the amount of sound that this unit generates when riding it. The ride is very smooth and enjoyable. I was able to easily set the the wheel tightness such that any changes in gears calls for an appropriate change in effort/resistance just as would be the case when riding on the road (e.g., moving down the cassette from a 17-cog to a 16-cog created greater resistance). I've trained extensively for years on a computrainer, and on an a very old-school Blackburn wind trainer. I find the ride on the KK Road Machine 2.0 to be far superior, and, again, very smooth and enjoyable. My bike is equipped with an srm power unit, and the ride is sure and good through any amount of power that I generate, including over 1,000 watts. In addition, the bike and wheel are very secure and sure when standing and jamming/pedaling hard. I have raced -- road -- for decades. This unit has been great thus far for my workouts. The quality of my rides while on this trainer have been excellent. I am convinced that there is something about the smoothness and feel of this trainer that is contributing to this. I find this trainer to be a winner, and, with the recent REI 20%-off discount, a very good value. I recommend this product without reservation.
