Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and Âľ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

I have the Sahara shorts and the Sahara convertible pants - so thought that these would be a nice addition to my wardrobe. I love the shorts and pants because they are designed for women, not teenagers. The waist is AT the waist not low on the hips - the zipper is normal length, etc. These pants are not like the other Sahara items in ANY way - the zipper is about 4 inches long, guaranteeing an unflattering look and the obvious "plumbers gap" when sitting. They are also sized smaller than the other Sahara items. REI - you should really change the name of these pants so that people like me wouldn't waste my time and 20% member discount on them.
I love these pants! I bought them on clearance, in a size 2 ( I was looking for a 4) but they were a great deal, so I bought them anyway. There are 3 lengths to choose from because of the "roll-up and button" option. They don't make you sweat, even in a 95* degree bakery, and you have no restrictions of movement. There are lots of pockets and you can adjust the tightness of the waistband inside the back of the pants . They're cute and you could wear them out if you were going somewhere before/after a good hike. Only reason I docked a star is because I'm a lefty, and there's only 1 leg pocket...on the RIGHT side. Lol all in all, GREAT pants.
I love these pants! Of course, everyone's shape is unique, but these fit me perfectly. I'm carrying a little more weight than I should be and wear a size 14. They rest just below the waist. They're durable, but also attractive. I've worn them out hiking, throw them in the wash and wear them to dinner the next day. They material is stretchy so they can fit properly, but still offer the ability to move. They clean up really easily - dried mud can be brushed off and in a house with dogs and cats these never have pet hair on them - THAT is amazing! They have belt loops, but there's also elastic and a button in the waist to adjust.
These pants have a lot of favorable reviews so I was pretty hopeful when I ordered them online. Unfortunately, these did not work for me. I have thick thighs and a small waist. The inside adjustment with the buttons is nice but the angle cut pockets on the side of the thighs are a no-no. If you are also a lady with larger thighs then you know those types of pockets never work well as they tend to stick out like bat wings. Hugely annoying. A more universal option would have been a flat cut front pocket. Or just leave those pockets off completely; with the leg pocket and the back pockets, the side pockets aren't terribly necessary. Returned.
I bought these in grey and black for an extended trip visiting various national parks. The comfort and versatility really set them apart from other pants I've had; from Grand Canyon to Glacier, my legs were never too hot or cold. There was no shortage of sweat on our hikes, but these stayed dry. Overzealous bug spray application looked like it might stain but washed right out. Material stood up perfectly to more than one instance of accidental bushwacking from poorly maintained trials. The adjustable waist band helped with slight loosening after wearing. The only downside was that they were a bit noisy, as other reviewers have said. Worth it for the comfort, in my opinion.
My wife bought these for our trip to Thailand in Feb. She wanted convertible pants so that she could be covered for the temples & cooler airplane temps, pants in a light material to make the warm temps & humidity bearable, and pants with stretch & durable material for climbing. These fit all those criteria & when she got home she discovered they have another added benefit: they repel dog hair. Not out-right, but she can easily brush off any dog hair just with her hand. Her one issue with them that takes a star away is the button on the inside for the adjustable elastic waistband: the position of it just happens to sit right on her hip bone & can irritate her skin/hip after a long day in them. She is 115#, 5'5" & 35 hip & has these in 0. Fit great on her otherwise.
I just received these pants. While trying them on, admiring the fit over my backside I thought to myself, "If only they made adult pants like kids' with the adjustable elastic in the waistband." (I am blessed with a proportionally smallish waist when compared to my thighs.) Well, I looked down, inside the waistband to find ADJUSTABLE ELASTIC! The angels have sung! I literally gasped. My only hope is that they hold up for many years like all of my other REI pants and shorts (I have two pairs of shorts I wear regularly that I think are the Sahara style that are at least 10 years old and are in perfect condition.) I am 5'7", more leg than torso, 145 pounds, and got a size 10. They go all the way to my heel which is a rare find for me. They make my backside look fabulous. I may have to keep my husband in front of me on the trail.
I bought these on impulse before my first overnight hike...going hiking, need hiking pants, right? I have always been the girl that hikes in jeans, regardless of temp, so I'm used to being sweaty and hot, jeans sticking at the knees, blah. blah. NEVER AGAIN. These pants need a cape they are so awesome. I was 10 miles in climbing up to Chimney Rock in 95 degrees, super humid weather and it was like I was wearing shorts. They didn't stick or smother my legs, the freedom of movement was amazing. I LOVE THESE PANTS.
I am on my second pair of these great pants. They are fantastic for travel; I don't actually wear them for backpacking because they don't have nearly enough pockets for that. But they have a zippered rear wallet pocket and a zippered thigh pocket that fits a passport or smart phone. The fit is great and they are stretchy and comfy for plane travel. The only downside is they do tend to bag over time when you wear them day after day. I still wear the first pair but now have to add a belt to keep them up (wondered why they have belt loops!). Despite this drawback I love these pants and wear them all the time for every day use, walking and biking around town.
I currently live in FL where it is hot and humid and wear these pants almost every day. My husband and I often work in the yard on weekends and these are perfect for keeping cool and avoiding sunburn. They are wash and wear and pretty durable. The gray ones look nice enough to wear out for a casual evening. I got my first pair four years ago and it is just starting to get little pin-sized holes in it. A note on the fit: I am really petite, at 5'3" and 95lbs, and tried on every pair of women's pants REI sells. These are the ONLY ones that fit, and that is only because of the adjustable waistband. Please REI, continue to make these pants.
