Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sizing is odd, but pants are great First off: "steel gray"=khaki and "asphalt"=dark gray. I'm 5'7" and weigh ~150lbs; I have more of my height in my legs. I normally wear a size 12 or 14, sometimes I need longer fit pants. I ordered the size 12 regulars of these. They were a bit snug through the hips, but the main problem was that they were about 2" too long. With a zipper at the bottom of the pant leg, you can't easily correct that. I went in and tried some on at the store and found a 14 petite fits. I never would have guessed I'm a petite, but there you go. They are loose through the bum, but there's no real give in the fabric, so I'd rather not have them too tight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits well I'm so glad that I can still buy pants that have a waistline near the waistline. Pay attention to sizes - for decades I was a size 9 at 128# and 5'6" and apparently I'm now a 6. I'm surprised there is no belt, but I have enough old REI pants that are too big (size 8) that I can use the belt from. I live in Alaska, so the zip off option is critical... always need to have layers... can be freezing in the AM and hot at the top of a hike. I just noticed the side pockets are zippered which is nice and the bear spray still fits. Please, REI, keep making pants like these!! I'll definitely be buying another pair at the next sale.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DC Turtle '08 Would love to buy these if they matched up to the old version (10 years ago) that I used to hike the entire AT. The first replacement was AWFUL and I sent them back. After reading the reviews, see that this version still has wimpy pockets. I want to put my trail map in one pocket and other necessities in the other front pocket. Like the zipper idea, but these are not a fashion statement - need to be functional. If we had an REI store nearby (I am in Roanoke area), I would try men's version. But we are hours away. Why is there no REI store in this area with almost 300K people and lots of mountains and the AT? Largest city on the AT.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast drying pants that run a size large These convertible pants are fine for camping. The color coded zips ate helpful. in identifying which pants leg goes where, The resulting shorts aren't too short, though honestly I wish they were capris. The pockets could be larger but are okay. These pants sit right at the waist so if you are looking for lower rise pants these are not the ones for you. You can adjust he waist easily, and the pants are cut full for a very relaxed fit. Be forewarned - these run one full size or more larger than usual!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from bring back the included belt I love Sahara pants, especially this year's design that sits at the waist. I agree with the others who say you need to order one size smaller. What has been left off however, is the included belt. It is not possible to get the belt off some of the older pants. Please keep the fit and bring back the belt. Also, never stop having long zippers so you can take off or put on the bottoms without removing your boots or shoes.. REI Sahara pants are the ONLY brand to have this kind of zipper and it is invaluable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pants I just got these in the mail and used them on a fifteen mile hike yesterday. I got a size 4, but I probably could have gone with the size 2 (I'm 5'5" 125 lbs). The reason I kept the 4 was because they have adjustable elastic bands on the inside of the waistband to cinch the waist tighter. I have a pretty big butt and thighs, relative to my waist, so I'm happy to have a more relaxed overall fit. Plus, now I have flexibility if I gain a few pounds. I agree with other reviews, that they are a bit long, but it wasn't an issue on my hike. They were really easy to convert to shorts and back to pants. They are definitely breathable and quick drying. Overall, I'm really happy with them. If REI's quality is dropping, as other reviews are stating, I don't think these pants are good evidence of that.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Features and Fabric make this an easy choice These pants do EXACTLY what they're designed to do. They are light weight, breathable, bead light moisture they come into contact with, convert with the utmost ease, easy storage in the pockets. BUT they are not flattering. At least not on me. I've seen them look cute on other ladies, but not myself. Also, taller ladies like myself (need at least a 33" inseam) prepare to be disappointed. Try these on first! They are awesome pants with all the function you could want.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Used to love these... I loved this pant until they changed the style and material. I have a pair from over two years ago that are still going strong. The new pant I purchased (to have an extra pair) a couple of months ago has already ripped (material is thinner) and the front pockets now have zippers which make it difficult to get items in and out of. Would love if they went back to the old style. Just sayin'.

Hi -- What's the difference between the Sahara Convertibles and the Classic Sahara Convertibles? Thanks!

Asked by: BellaDancer
The Classic has our No-Sit Zips design. The newer version (108939) has 18" long zippers from the hem. This stops about 5" from the convertible zipper. Item 108939 also has a slimmer fit and some stretch in the nylon.
