Sizing notes

For rock climbing shoes: Choose soft shoes two to three sizes smaller than your street shoe size. We recommend you fit your trad shoes one to two sizes under your street shoe size. Remember to factor in stretch. Unlined slip-lasted shoes tend to stretch about one full size. Lined shoes stretch about a half size. Remember: a well-fit comfortable shoe will work better than an ill-fitting tighter shoe. For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best trail runners I've used This is by far the best trail running shoe I've used. In the past I've used La Sportiva Wildcats and Raptors, and Montrail Mountain Masochists and old ('07) Hardrocks. The old Hardrocks have been my gold standard- until now. The Ultra Raptors have very good underfoot and toe protection, feel stiffer than any of the others I've tried (except the Hardrocks), feel very nimble and light (much better than the Hardrocks in this respect), and have INCREDIBLE grip on any terrain. So much so, in fact, that I'll probably start using them for climbing approaches. The fit is roomy in the toe and snug in the heel, and has only an 8mm drop, so feels very stable and close to the ground.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ultra-awesome I demoed these shoes last year (2102) and put over 300 race miles on one pair, including the Inside Trail Marin Ultra Challenge 50 mile, Angeles Crest 100 mile, and several shorter (usually Inside Trail 50k) races. I still can run gnarly trails in them (and still like to). I'm a neutral runner with normal arches, so arch and pronation aren't issues for me and can't comment. Not Gore-Tex obviously, but they drain well. Friction grip tread is great (same as the regular Raptors). Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe Use these for backwoods trails in ohio and western PA. Love them. Feel very secure and stable with excellent grip. One of the best shoes I own. LaSportiva make great mountaineering boots and know their stuff on trails as well. I log between 40 to 50 miles a week on these shoes and they are wearing well. Just buy this shoe 1/2 size larger than you wear. LaSportiva makes a great product and as long as you know that anytime you purchase LaSportive, buy 1/2 size larger, and you'll never go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best of the breed? Love these shoes. This is what a trail runner should be - firmer sole that lets you run on Sierra granite without feeling it, approach shoe worthy tread pattern, just enough padding but not too much that you lose stability. Bash and scrape protection all around, while remaining a light shoe compared to a lowtop hiker. Enough stability to wear them for hours with a pack. Haven't done much in the wet but so far didn't notice any slips. I got these and Wildcats at the same time and there's no comparison, those are comfy but for trails the Raptors win hands down (my Wildcats are a size down, they're just looser from their lighter construction).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Trail Runner & Backpacking Shoe I've put about 100 miles on my Ultra Raptors on the AT and similar mountain trails in the mid-Atlantic carrying a 15-20 pound pack. These things eat up sharp rocks, uneven trails, mud and high mileage days. They are absolutely superb trail shoes. Material and construction seem to be top notch and these shoes have the best traction I've found in any trail runners both uphill and down. They even perform well on wet rocks! The mesh construction allows for great breathability and tremendous comfort. They have enough internal volume to accommodate my Green Superfeet which makes for a great combination. The sole has sufficient firmness that there's good protection when stepping on sharp rocks. While not as pillowy as some trail runners, the sole firmness is about right for very sure footed placement and rollover protection. ONE IMPORTANT CAVEOT: These shoes run VERY small. My size 11 1/2 foot usually takes a size 12 trail runner in most brands. I needed a size 13 in the Ultra Raptors! If at all possible, you should try these on in the store prior to purchase wearing the socks you anticipate using on the trail. After many rough trail miles in these I couldn't be happier: super comfortable, breathable and supportive. Coupled with an ultralight gaiter to keep the trail gravel and dirt out, they are the perfect hiking shoe for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best!!! I purchased the raptors about two months ago. I have worn them everyday since for work (landscaping), trail running, backpacking, and everything in between. They are in my opinion the best shoes i have worn to date. They are extremely comfortable, and breathe well. They have incredible grip even on wet rocks , roots, etc. I have crossed streams knee deep in these and they drain very fast and dry quickly. Great protection from rocks under foot but you can still feel the trail. They are fairly light and so far seem to be extremely durable. I dont write many reviews but I like to think that this might help others to find what they are looking for. I spent many hours researching shoes before I purchased the Raptors, and I hope this helps. Size up a half size from your normal size and get moving.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shoes so far This is for the non-waterproof version. These shoes are extremely comfortable, and a great combination of light but supportive. I bought these specifically for hiking and backpacking. I finally am giving up on heavy hiking boots, and gortex hikers in favor of light trail runners like these for hiking and even backpacking. They have great traction, are super light, and very comfortable for up to 30lb pack loads. They are very well cushioned with out being spongy. I plan to buy another pair of these for future use, and also the slightly lighter less supportive version for fitness jogging on local trails. I especially like the breathability as they have no gortex or other "waterproofing". You stay dryer in almost every condition if you have a highly breathable, quick drying shoe vs a shoe that holds in sweat and stays wet after it's soaked. As other have stated; These run small. I normally wear a 11.5 or 12 in nearly everything, but I needed a 13 in these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Hiking Shoe Most of my experience with these shoes has been climbing 14ers. The thing I have been most happy with is the traction. These have done great on steep slopes and wet rock. The only downside is that the tred wares quickly. Still, these shoes are absolutely worth it for the time that they last.

Is something wrong with your review ratings?  When I sort trail running shoes by 'customer rating' it shows far fewer reviews and a different star ratings than on the product page.   This appears to be the case on many shoes (didn't check all).
