Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall nice but... The versatility of this hat is great. Many different ways to wear it for different situations. This hat has become my go-to hat. Issues: If you are taking the neck protector on and off frequently, doing so can be a bit awkward. Also, once the neck protector is on, with all the material, taking the hat off and putting it back on requires some attention. In regards to the SPF, I'm not totally convinced it really is SPF 50. My neck and ears seem to burn easier than they should with the hat on. Overall, I'm liking the hat and would recommend others at least consider this hat.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good cap but...... Got this as an alternative to the OR Sun Runner mostly because of the folding bill feature. It is mostly well made and I used it primarily for ocean kayaking and like the Sun Runner it did well in salt water and the longer brim was nice in bright sun. The problem lies in the plastic snaps that attach the shroud to the bill. They are small plastic units that are way under built, thus, both have broken. Think I'll be staying with the OR as their snaps are a copper metal and after going through several of these over the years no snap has ever failed or corroded in sea water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't understand other reviews I am puzzled by other reviews praising this hat when at least one talks about the poor quality of the snaps. I purchased this hat for my son who was going on a canoeing trip, thankfully he had Duct Tape! The snaps broke the first day out! When we put the hat on the counter at our local REI she girl behind the counter said, "huh, another one." She proceeded to tell me that there are many of these hats that come off the truck with broken snaps! This thing is a piece of junk! I really am struggling to understand why others have such glowing recommendations of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great active sun hat I have many Sunday Afternoon hats, but most are large brimmed, hard to store, an not practical for fast-moving activities. I saw this hat and liked that the bill naturally folded, even though the neck shroud looked stuffy. I decided to give it a try on a 22-mile trail run in very sunny and warm weather. Wow! First off, the neck shroud does not really need to be removed. It can be snapped behind the head and makes it like a cap with slight sun coverage for the tops of my ears, without any noticeable downside (wind, etc.). On the second half of the run the sun was out in force so I tried having the shroud down. It was light and let just enough air in the front to not feel stuffy and keep me cool. I ran 11 miles back with lots of sweat and had no issues with it fully closed. It might look a bit dorky, but I'm getting another because it is so comfortable and functional. Highly recommended for active people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cap I needed a hat that would protect my neck from sun burns. This cap is very light and breathable, can be folded and stored in a pocket without breaking it. Easy to clean. And it is also versatile and can be transformed into a "normal" looking cap, or wrapped around the face if weather calls for it. I spent a few days under brutal July sun wearing this cap and I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect in all weather I bought a medium size and it feels like it's not there, it's so comfortable and easy to fit. What I love about it is its versatility, all the ways it can be worn: with or without the sun flaps. Since I live in the northwest, I haven't yet had the opportunity to wear it in hot weather, but experiencing its lightweight and air vents, there is no doubt it will more than live up to its name and promise. Unfortunately I lost mine during a trip and will have to purchase it again, for there is no other cap in the store as versatile and comfortable as this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Sun-Blocking Hat I did a LOT of research on sun-shading caps and tried many of them - this one is the best at REI or elsewhere. My 2nd choice was sunrunner cap from OR.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hat Great hat to meet interchangable conditions with or without the skirt/drape. Has easy tightening strap in the back and the snapped skirt allows you to wear it in windy consitions without the risk of losing it, like on a boat or windy mountain. Folds down small and still has a decent looking bill when you drag it out of the bag. Fabric dense enough to block sun well.

Is this adjustable like other bill caps, in the back, with a buckle or velcro? Because I usually wear a small and this only comes in M or L. So I would need to take it in at least an inch for the size M to fit snugly and not blow off in the wind.

Snaps on the Sun Guide Hat ... plastic or metal? I have read that the plastic snaps break easy but the metal snaps are just fine. Thank you.

Asked by: Speedbump1
The snaps on the Sun Guide Cap are plastic.
