Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hat! It's become a running joke in my life that I could never find a hat for sun protection that I liked. I tried probably like 15 hats over the past couple years. This hat is the best. I wore it for 6 days across the Trans-Catalina trail which has no shade... ever... and the constant sun could make for a hot head. But alas this hat kept me cool and fit my giant hair bun up there off my neck, huge bonus! The Pumice color is great. I'm really pleased and while I never thought I'd pay $42 for a hat, worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best sun hat on out there! As the weather heats up this spring I have been using the Ultra-Adventure Hat non stop. It has some really cool upgrades from the Original-Adventure Hat (which I have worn for years) like the reverse folding brim and Sunglass slits on the sides of the crown (sunglasses stay in place when you are not wearing them). The brim and neck cape are also a little smaller but still wide enough for good sun protection. I have about 70 trail miles using this hat so far and it still looks great. Highly recommended if you are looking for a good sun hat for the trail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have a big head I have a hard time finding hats that fit. Large just doesn't cut it sometimes. I have thick hair, so I'm assuming the poofiness in addition to my head size makes it hard to find something that fits. Forget the big straw hats, this is perfect! You can flatten it, it stretches, the material is thin, it protects you from the sun, and covers the back of your neck so you (my 8 year old's neck actually) doesn't get burned. Because it's lightweight, my head doesn't get that sweaty and hot in the sun like other hats have a tendency to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Hat Ever I bought this hat because the hat that I had been using has a full brim, all the way around and when I had a backpack on my back, the hat brim interacted with the backpack. It annoyed me every time a took a step. This hat solves that problem. It gave me excellent coverage as I hiked near Quincy, WA with my son's boy scout troop. I love that it has a strap under the chin so I do not need to worry about it blowing away. Also, the back flap on this hat is more streamlined than on the previous model, so it does not look quite as geeky. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not lacking in any way I've only used this hat on a few outings, but I love it. I found out a couple things about myself through shopping for sun hats, which made hat shopping kind of a pain. I found out that I have a pretty small head - size 7 1/4 of a military boonie hat that I was replacing because I didn't want to be that guy wearing camoflauge on the trail, although that hat is nearly perfect. I have the the medium size and it cinches down to fit me almost perfectly, but it's at its limit. Most hats out there were way, way, way too big, which isn't too much of a problem when the hat is adjustable as most hats are, although the depth of the hat becomes problematic. This brings me to my second discovery - I have a big ears (apparently) because with most hats they would hit the brim, which I didn't like. This could have also been because of the depth of the hat as I already mentioned. This hat circumvented that because of the cape, which my ears hit but it's not a problem, and is definitely not noticeable because the fabric is really smooth and light. The fit on this hat is not too tight or too loose. I think because of the depth and how it fits snug all around my head the tightness around the adjustable band wasn't as critical. I just tried it in combination with my winter hat (OR Flurry Beanie, size S/M) and it fits great, but with the adjustment band all the way out, so I'll be able to use this through the winter too. Besides the fit, the breathabilty is great - the material is extremely light, and it handles wind really well. In wind the brim didn't deform or flip up, and with the strap cinched down everything stayed put. I also really like the color (pumice), quite a bit actually. It's a nice change from the African Safari colors, while still reflecting a lot of light. The hat kind of has a bonnet look, but ultimately I think it would like fine on both men and women. From what I've noticed the cons are thus: The hat is floppy. Pretty obvious, right? It's taking a little bit of getting used to. Since half is stiff (brim) and half is loose (cape) it just bends in half, and when you put it on and want the strap in front of your face you have to put some effort into organizing everything and then adjusting it once it's on your head. These things are non-issues with a straight solid brim hat, but I suppose if you're looking at this hat you've already crossed that bridge! Secondly, I've noticed a couple times after taking the hat off and on I had to re-tighten the head strap. Not a bit deal, and I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing or if it's just how the hat is, but it's something to be aware of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ultimate sun hat I have been searching for "the perfect" hat for sun protection for what seems like forever. I need it for backpacking, to begin with. Tried full-brim hats but the back of the hat would hit the top of my backpack, which was annoying. Tried ball cap styles with flaps without much success. Too heavy, too cumbersome. I also wanted something that I could run in ... and along came the ultra adventure hat. ultra lightweight, hardly know it's there when running or hiking. cool and comfortable. i would give it 6 stars if i could!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for anything outdoors! I bought this a few weeks ago for sun protection during a wilderness retreat in northern New Mexico. It was perfect; light, not dorky looking, and now I'm using it for tennis and local walking. The fold-up brim is a feature I thought unimportant until I packed. It allows the hat to lie flat in luggage or pack without changing the curve of the brim when worn. Love my choice!

The Ultra Adventure Hat was not designed to float in water for long periods of time. It may float for a few seconds, but it will ultimately sink.

Water resistant, but the kind of hat you could wear in a good rainstorm? Considering the Tilley AirFlo to get both sun and rain protection. Is this a good alternative?

Asked by: tjb1013
This hat is intended for light rain and not good for heavy rain storms.

I had a different SA hat in the past where the brim folded and I returned it because the brim would never go flat again, is anyone having that problem with the Ultra's foldable brim? Or does the bad crease stay and never go flat again?

Asked by: SusanS
We have not received any specific feedback regarding the brim not keeping its shape after being packed.
