Perfect product. Because his immune system has been compromised by 26 weeks of chemotherapy, and despite losing half his coat, and with the mountains' winter temperatures and wind, my Collie still wants to be outside during the day to hike in the hills and run and play in the fields, and to lie on the porch in the sun when he doesn't feel well. After considering several options, I purchased this jacket and couldn't be happier. Well worth the price; zipper at neck and two straps make for easy-on, easy-off; straps are easily adjusted even when he's wearing it; inside loop for hanging, outside loop for blinker; tag inside for ID. Best of all, its non-restrictive fit allows him to run and play with total freedom. It allows his final months to be happy quality time.

Great idea, cheap material

I have a large and very active dog (a boxer) who loved this coat because she has neither body fat or much fur. I am now into my second coat after the first one got a tear on the underside of the piece that fits under the dog's chest after a few weeks of use. Coat #2 got a tear on the top portion of the coat after just one day. The coat would be outstanding if they made it with considerably tougher more resilient fabric. Given the price of the coat, this would seem to be a reasonable expectation.

Warm Dog!

We've had Acorn for 3 months, and she is 11-12 years old. With the temps dropping, we decided the old girl needed something to keep her warm on her daily walks. I looked at this coat online, then went to my Saratoga REI to purchase it. Acorn wears a harness, so we had to put a button hole in the top of the coat for the harness d-ring. This coat is really easy to put on. I particularly like that you don't have sleeves to put on the front legs. It just slips easily over the head then tighten the chest part down with clips. The very first time out, Acorn went through a rose bush and I figured there would be snags. But this fabric must be pretty tough because there was not one pick. When she came in the house and I took it off, her back was warm, so it definitely did the trick. The fit is good, however, Acorn is long and lean. I had to get a medium for her and it doesn't come down quite as far as I'd like on her back. But it seems to work for her.

Great for cold snaps

Have used this twice camping with border collie who is mostly a indoor dog unless we are hiking, biking or being active outside. We are evening and weekend warriors He loves it when camping in the high colorado mountains during the summer where it can dip close to freezing. he used to try to get into my sleeping bag not anymore. Also invaluable during the huge cold snaps happening recently in Denver. 30 one day and -23 with wind chill the next. Use it when i take my dog out to use bathroom. house is 65 degrees and walk outside to -23 thats a 88 degree change in a matter of steps. Dog no longer gives me the "look" when i have to take him outside to go potty.

Excellent cold weather jacket

This is an excellent jacket for when the temperature dips a bit on this cold backcountry nights. My 1 year old boxer doesnt seem to mind wearing it around the campsite or when he is sleeping. Even in 20 degree weather, he stays nice and toasty underneath without getting overheated

Keeps 'Em Warm

My Dog spends a lot of time outside when its about 40 degrees and colder. This coat is able to easily keep her warm. I can put my hand under the coat and she is very warm even after hours of being in the cold. Most of the time she does not like to wear coats but this one she is not adverse to wearing, it keeps her warm and because of the smooth soft material I believe she likes how comfortable it is. The RuffWear coats use snap-in type buckles and NOT velcro. I have had many dog coats and her old coats (before we found RuffWear) use velcro and they degrade quickly within a year and start to become useless. The RuffWear snap buckles won't degrade. They are adjustable in length so I can make the perfect fit.

Great!

We love this jacket! Our rescued pit is such a baby about going outside in anything besides bright, warm sunshine. This has really helped with the sudden drop in temp in Chicago! I also love that it packs into its own stuff sack! Perfect for bringing it with and not needing it, or vice versa! The thing I don't love- we like to walk her with a front clip harness. There's no slot to allow this. We can only use a collar. We haven't used it in terrible weather yet- just a few rain showers and cold evening temps. I'm excited to see how it will hold up over the winter.

Dog loves it, and that's what counts!

I've had a lot of best friends (dogs I mean). But all of em have been long coated large dogs(120lbs or more). I got my first short haired dog a few years back, a rescued Amstaff Terrier, and he hates any temp under 60 or so. I'm active all winter, and hated leaving the little guy at home when I went on hikes or up into the mountains to ride my bike or go snowshoeing. The RuffWear jacket has definitely cancelled out his normal shivers, and I noticed him spending alot more time exploring the property in the winter landscape. Hes only come on a few hikes with me since we got this. But he seems a lot more comfortable. It goes on quick and easy(and hes a rambunctious dog) And after a little time to get used to it, he looks forward to it being brought out each time. Good product, great idea in fitment and design. Don't think we could be happier with it!

Happy Tails

Moving to a region that get colder than cold, we needed an extra layer for Jackson to stay warm during his early morning hikes. This coat is great! Easy to put on, offers a great layer of warmth and easy movement! The coat now offers just as much excitement, as pulling out the leash!

Great Jacket but buckle broke in first month

Jacket arrived quickly and fits our 60 lbs pit/lab mix very well. It appears to keep him very warm on cold morning and night walks. The reflective strip is a nice touch too. The only complaint I have and it's a big one, the buckle on the left side broke after less than a month of infrequent use. I'll be contacting REI to see about an exchange but so far we love the jacket just disappointed in the quality of the buckle.
