Extra warmth to go w/ classic Ruffwear quality
I've been a big fan of Ruffwear for years and my dog has a whole slew of packs, jackets, and more. Now that my Labrador is getting a little older, I've noticed she gets colder a little easier and her existing Ruffwear sweater wasn't always enough warmth for cold nights in tents. I got the Furness hoping to keep her a little warmer on chilly backpacking nights in the alpine zone and the occasional romp in the snow. Although I haven't really gotten to put the Furness through it's full paces since we're between backpacking season and snow season, it has been dipping into the 30s at night, and the Furness has done a great job keeping my dog warm on a handful of walks. Putting my hand inside the jacket I can feel she's got some good heat trapped inside and more than she's had on comparable nights with her sweater on. The quality is classic Ruffwear. Seems to be rock solid with good attention to detail. I'm sure it will last for years just like the rest of her Ruffwear gear. Love that it has reflective piping down the side and, to my surprise, my dog doesn't hate the back leg loops. She's a lanky, lean 70 lbs and is a medium in all things Ruffwear. The fit on this jacket is perfect for her. Can't wait to get her in some snow!
Beautiful Dog Jacket
I ordered this jacket following the instructions given, but either didn't measure correctly (snugly enough), misinterpreted the order instructions, or was shipped the incorrect size. Unfortunately, my dog Roc is a small Schipperke (15#) who could benefit from a good jacket because at 14 he has hair loss (so do I) and we live in the mountains where winters can be brutal. The Jacket is very well made (in Vietnam, not USA), looks to be super warm, well insulated, and thoughtfully designed. It was a bit difficult for me to figure out how to put it on him until I viewed the video on just that topic. But since it was the wrong size (about 6-8 inches too long) it couldn't be worn as designed. You can see that not only does it overhang in back, the rear leg attachment elastic bands couldn't be used and the underbody interfered with other "essential functions" that are the main purpose of his walks nowadays. Since a corretly sized replacement isn't available to us, he will use this like a sleeping bag during our cold season camping. This is probably worth the hefty pricetag if you take your dog skiing, snowshoeing, or walking in frigid mountain temps, especially if the dog is old or has a compromised fur condition like my Roc. Be very careful when ordering to make sure the chest measurement is snug as I think this jacket may be on the large size anyway. Better yet, take your dog to the REI store and try it on him/her before purchasing.
Great Winter Jacket for your Adventure Pup!
This is a must-have jacket for winter and cold-weather adventures with your pup! I have a 40 lbs herding dog mix who usually struggles in the cold because of how lean he is, but this jacket kept him warm and comfortable while hiking in the snow and camping in 40 degree weather. The medium fit him perfectly and I was still able to fit his backpack over the jacket.
Love this coat
This coat is great! I have a Mini Aussie with a very thin fur coat. I love that the Furness has more than just a strap underneath. Plus it’s roomy enough that a sweater can fit under it if needed.
Fabulous
I can't truly stress enough how much I love this coat for my dog. It's fully waterproof, has very great bodily coverage, and keeps my boy toasty warm despite harsh winds or heavy snow. You can really tell it's very high quality just by how it feels. I would purchase this over & over & regret not getting this sooner.
Good jacket for longer dogs
I recently purchased this jacket in small for my elderly english cocker spaniel, zipped up fine but was very long, maybe 4” past his rear, so I ended up returning it and getting the power hound in the same size, and it fits perfectly.
