Keeps my hot dog cool!
Great cooling vest! My dog is a mix with a Husky and Great Pyrenees double coat. She gets very hot, but we do like to trail run, and I was very worried about her getting heat stroke, especially on exposed trails. I dip this vest in a stream or pour a nalgene on it when we get started and it keeps her cool and comfortable for the entire run. If it's a longer run, it's really easy to reload with water, but even without adding extra water, this keeps her much more comfortable than she would be without it.
Great Dog Cooling Vest!
Really nice vest - and the only one that fit well for my German Shepherd. She needed a little time getting used to it but it definitely helped with our trail running in the sun. I recommend adding water to the vest especially for a longer hike/walk/run and did that myself to ensure that she remained on the cooler side. At the end of our run her coat was not hot nor wet (win!). Highly recommend if you are looking for a vest to help offset the direct sun for dogs who tend to overheat.
Great for a black dog in full sun
My dog melts if the sun is out and it's over 70F. I mean tongue rolling out the side of his mouth, heavy panting if we're just walking around the neighborhood. I've been able to do 10 mile hikes with him in the 90's if I can keep the vest adequately charged. For my dog it works great even when it's dry because the reflective material keeps the sun off him. I can feel a difference on his fur - he is much cooler to the touch underneath the vest than parts of his body still exposed to the sun, which feel very hot to the touch. I get some odd questions ("why does your dog have a vest, isn't that hot??") but remember that insulation works both ways - insulation can keep you cool. I can tell the difference it makes by how heavily he pants/lolls his tongue with or without it, and its a huge difference for us (black athletic dog, medium/low humidity, biggest bane is direct sunlight). I don't think this would be very effective in a humid or muggy environment at all.
