Rated 5 out of 5 by from New boots bring comfort I was long overdue for a new pair of hiking boots. I needed something comfortable (I wear orthotics), water repellent, and with good traction. I did not want to spend a ton of money and these fit the bill. I don't know how durable they are because I have only used them to go to work on a trail work party as well as one day hike. The great thing about it is the boot is very light weight. Another reason I chose these, besides those mentioned, is I already have a pair of sandals made by the same manufacturer and they are the most comfortable pair of sandals I own...and those have proven to be very durable. The fit is snug but not too so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cushions feet all day I'm so happy I bought these boots! They coushioned my feet and the wide toebox was helpful. I ordered a half size larger than what I measured and could only wear 1 pair of light hiking socks. I used them for training at home and walked the Camino de Santiago in them during rainy, muddy season. They held up over tough terrain and long days sometimes 14 to 17 miles. I tried to make do with a 2nd less expensive backup pair for the Camino but they didn't measure up to the Targhiis and ended up only using the Keens from day 2 on. The only downside was they are not waterproof when you step in a puddle. I'm looking to buy another pair of Targhii mids when they go on sale!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost EXCELLENT I used this boot mainly at first to support a healing broken ankle. I walk all over Europe since I live there and the boot was comfy, water proof, warm (sometimes too warm when it was hot out), and looked great! My only problem with the boot was that after 3 months of daily wear, the treads on the side of the bottom of the boot started pealing off the main sole. I was told that is is something that KEEN is known for, so I took them back and got another pair with no problem. I wished that KEEN would figure out this problem so that I would feel confident in purchasing another pair. Until then I am not sure if I will. Other than that, I recommend this boot! It is great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kept my feet warm and dry all weekend! My husband and I had an camping anniversary trip planned for a few weeks ago in NC. The weather showed rain. the. whole. time. That wasn't going to fly with my trail runners so I headed to REI to get some waterproof hikers. There was absolutely no break-in time for these boots and they were waterproof out of the box. With several rainy, multi-mile hikes, I returned home with dry, comfortable, blister-free feet. I never had a slip on the trails and a lot of the time was spent walking through foot-covering puddles. Love these boots! Can't wait to take them out again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boots for Beginning Hikers! If I could marry these hiking boots, I would. I bought these boots a couple of weeks ago as my first ever pair of hiking boots and they have worked out so so well. They are comfortable, provide great ankle support, and are extremely durable. I have walked over lots of different surfaces in them and they have been sturdy through them all - they even have pretty decent traction in the snow! The longest hike I used them on was a 6 mile 4.5 hour trip and by the end of it my feet weren't even sore. The only con I can think of regarding these boots is that the laces are kind of hard to tighten. I like my shoes to be really snug and tight and I have to work pretty hard to get the shoelaces to be super tight. Other than that though, the boots are great! I would recommend them to everyone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice and comfortable I used these to go hunting with my husband and they were great. My feet stayed dry and warm in the Oregon rain and my feet felt great after hours of hiking. These are wide enough that my toes didn't feel pinched with wool socks on and my feet also didn't get hot. The only thing that bothered me was that the toung of the shoe does not come high enough to keep the laces off of your ankle when laces up. It wasn't uncomfortable while hiking but I thought it was weird. Also, they squeaked when walking on wet grass (not so good while hunting) but had good traction. I would totally buy them again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from LOVE KEEN GENOA PEAK, BUT NOT THIS SHOE I bought these shoes to replace my Keen Genoa Peak shoes. I wore them almost every day and finally the heels wore down. Everything else about those shoes I loved. When going to replace them I discovered Keen was no longer making them. I replaced them with the Targhee II's and find that the toe box is not as wide as the Genoa Peak and the sizing is smaller than the Genoa Peak. I normally wear a size 7 shoe, so bought 7.5 in the Targhee II. They are too short. My large toe bumps the inside of the shoe whereas the same size Genoa Peak fit just fine. I am so disappointed in this shoe! I wish Keen would bring back the Genoa Peak!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from If you love wet feet..... you'll love these boots. They ARE NOT waterproof in the slightest. what is wrong with keen to claim this knowing full well they aren't? It is an absolute shame as I have plantar fasciatis and a huge bunion and these allow me to hike. I have to wear plastic bags in my boots when it rains. too bad. Seriously keen....waterproof or take those labels OFF!!!! I had a nine day backpacking trip in january in the grand canyon. the first four days poured rain and then they froze into huge blocks of ice when the cold moved in afterwards.Guess no one that works for keen, backpacks or even spends an hour outside in poor weather.....

Questions & Answers

I want to take these on the JMT next August. I have seen that people say they are hot. My feet run hot already. Anyone takes these on warmer hikes?

Asked by: Larkspur
I just purchased these hiking shoes yesterday. It was a phenomenal purchase!! I live in Atlanta Georgia and as you probably know our summers are very hot which I love. We went hiking 7 miles today in 92 degree heat and my feet felt great!! They did not get hot and the hiking shoes are so comfortable. We hiked Sweetwater Creek Park... Google it and you will see the terrain that we hiked on and my feet did not sweat at all. Post back if you have any questions

I wear a size 11 (womens) and I notice that a lot of people are saying to buy 1/2 size bigger? Do I really need to do that? I dont see these come in larger than size 11 and I have 3 pairs of the keen sandals that fit me fine.

Asked by: JoyB73
The Keen Targhee II's have been found to run about a half size small for most people. The sizing is different on these boots than on Keen sandal models, so while you can try your normal size 11, there is a possibility you will find them snug.

Would you recommend these boots for hiking Mt Kilimanjaro with a 35L pack over ten days?  Or would a stiffer boot be better?  I love the fit and feel of these boots but I'm not sure if maybe they are just a little to flexible? Tips, advice or suggestions

Asked by: Eva7
The Targhee II Mid Hiking Boots are a fine choice. If you need a boot with a stiffer shank that will provide more lateral support, you might consider the Keen Durand Mid WP Hiking Boots.

I own these boots and they've served me well hiking in the Sierras, but will they be okay for conditions in the Pacific Northwest? I will be living up there soon and working outside. Can they hook up to snowshoes?

Asked by: noelnap
These boots are a good choice for use in the Pacific Northwest, along with their waterproof version of this boot. Use with snowshoes will depend on the snowshoe binding fit.

I bought these boots for day-hikes & they worked great. But after using them for a multi-day (50 miles), they were quite uncomfortable. Should I try these boots again in a size up, or go with a different boot?

Asked by: KShay
Typically when someone experiences discomfort in their shoes or boots on extended trips the first question we ask is, "Were you wearing appropriate socks (sock liners)?" and "Were you using appropriate lacing techniques?". If you're not sure, it may be worth learning more about these common issues. It is also possible that you needed more support than the Targhee II Mid hiking boots could provide for backpacking with a heavy load. In that case, looking for a stiffer more supportive boot may be necessary.

8.5..currently have aprox. 400 miles I was wearing a DT Micro hikers and the Achilles wore out on the inside. I put on a bandaid and kept hiking. Then bought a full cushion darn tough and was fine, no rub. Is 8.5 too big from stretching?? 8 fits too..

Asked by: Kate
If your shoe is slipping on your heel while hiking, we recommend down-sizing to an 8.
