KEEN  Targhee IV Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's

Purchased because loved the idea of the sole not falling off with the single piece sole. Should have thought about the lace up more. With only one lace closer around the ankle, the bend of my foot to ankle took all the pressure going down hill rather than my leg. Fine for short (~3 miles), but painful for longer hikes (6+ miles). Going back to a boot that has at least two lace closers on leg above ankle, and not a lace cross right at bend of ankle. Really wanted to love these boots, but can’t.

These are well-made, nice looking, excellent boots. They were very comfortable walking around inside the house. Unfortunately, they didn't working for me, once I wore them on a hike where I was going uphill and downhill. I found the insole was slippery and allowed my foot to slide forward in an unsecure way, even though they were the correct size, and even if I tied them very snug. I do think the old Keen boots were a better shape and I wish Keen still made them. They worked great for me. (More boxy toe.) Overall I think this is just a problem with my foot shape, not a problem with the boots. They should work fine for others.

Overall, an okay shoe. They were pretty stiff out of the box but I figured they’d need some breaking in considering the durability of the shoe. After about a month or two they started to break in and feel a bit more comfortable. But over the past few months I just don’t think they’re for me. Not enough cushion and my feet start to hurt after wearing them for awhile. I did an 8 mile hike with some pretty steep incline/decline and my ankles did not feel as supported as I’d like. Pretty solid in terms of durability and waterproof but definitely not the most comfortable to do lots of miles in.

I picked up these boots weeks ago but never had the chance to try them on. Finally got them out of the box and just wore them around the house for a full day doing normal chores - stairs, 1/4 mile walk to mailbox, etc. Did not want to get them too dirty in case they did not fit! After 8 hours my feet never seemed to realize they were wearing boots and not slippers. The bunion was not screaming for freedom and none of my toes were irritated by rubbing against each other. Can’t wait to try them outside once I catch up on these nagging house projects. It is so nice to be able to wiggle toes in a boot!

I’ve bought these two years in a row. Targhee III failed 3 weeks from hike when the seam at toebox failed and allowed water in. Now I have the Targhee IV and I’m 2 weeks out from hike. There’s one spot that keeps water even in sun drying many hours and it now smells like mildew. Having to treat and pray I don’t stink out the rest of my fellow hikers. I do have to replace the insole every time I buy these too. Thought it was just me, but reviews are agreeing so I’ll state Keen needs to do better in using a more sufficient insole!

Great shoe. I've worn Keen Targhees for a few years now. The new (to me) Targhee IV model fit perfectly and broke in quickly. I wore it hiking in the Sierras recently, and it protected my feet from water and rocky trails. Makes me feel like a mountain goat.

My frustration builds more and more with manufacturers cheapening hiking shoes. Keen is a prime example. I have worn just about every brand imaginable. Keen was always favorite. But this shoe is odd. The middle seems lowered and the front toe box is higher. Shoe is lightweight which is nice. Lacking support - I mean Keen was superb with arch support and now this is a joke with this shoe. I took out the insole and replaced it with Superfeet and then Sol, still not loving the fit. I wear them around the house and garden now because they are a poor shoe for hiking.

I bought these to replace my size 10.5 Targhee III and I'm so amazingly disappointed. I bought the same size because why not? The 10.5s were so gigantic it was noticeable just looking at them. So I exchanged for a 10 (because why would I go even smaller?). I took them for a short but steep 3 mile hike yesterday and again so insanely huge. It was like hiking in the boots that go with my fishing waders but without the waders. So I'll be returning and probably going with a different brand. Such a huge bummer.

I bought this pair of KEEN for our Switzerland trip. I didn’t really have time to break them before the trip, I was a little worried. It turned out that it was not an issue at all. I had great time hiking in them on the trails in Interlaken area. I also wore them in the rainy days walking in city streets, and I wiped off the excessive water at the end of day and they are ready to go for the next day. I got wide because I have a bunion and one size up from my regular shoe size considering that I would do a lot hiking and wearing thick socks. They are really comfortable. Another thing I want to mention is that the REI staff were super helpful. They are very knowledgeable about the shoes they are selling.

No arch support. I rock hunt and climb up hills and these boots do not grip well, soles are thin and I feel unstable wearing them. I have also developed an Achilles tendon problem from wearing them and because they are waterproof my feet smell horrible after hiking. What a waste of $170., I don’t even want to donate them because someone else’s feet may be impaired!
