Temperature ratings are intended as a guideline to help you compare products, rather than a guarantee of warmth, since many different factors contribute to your comfort while you sleep. Backpacking bags are typically rated for temperature according to an independent testing protocol—currently International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 23537, though some older items followed European Norm (EN) 13537. Testing is based on a person wearing one base layer and a pair of socks, sleeping on an insulated surface with a minimum R-value of 5.38.

Each bag then gets 2 ratings: the Comfort rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "cold sleeper" comfortable, and the Lower Limit rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "warm sleeper" comfortable. Some brands determine their own temperature rating by aligning to the Comfort rating for women’s bags, to the Lower Limit rating for men’s bags, or somewhere in the middle for nongendered bags.

Lightweight, Warm, my kiddo loves this bag!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My kiddo loves this Bag, he said it was one of the best nights he has ever slept. He loves the Outdoors already, but sleeping warm, being able to carry his own little Sleeping Bag in his own Pack, it's perfect, at just over 1 lb., and warm!

Classic backpacking sleepingbag

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Like the grown-up version of this sleeping bag, this is a lightweight synthetic backpacking essential! We love the colors and warmth and bring it on winter adventures hiking out to cabins and backpacking during the summer in Alaska. Since it’s synthetic we don’t have to worry as much about it getting wet or dirty and its easy to clean.

Kids trestles

Just used for the first time. My son loved it. It didn't necessarily get very cold during the nights, but it was brisk. He stayed warm and the mummy hood kept his pillow in place. Plus the size gives him room to grow and use for years to come. Would recommend a bag liner if your little one tends to run cold.

Great First Bag for Kids

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] What a great way to get kids started in camping! We haven’t had a chance to use it yet because it’s mid winter, but it looks like everything I hoped for. The bright colors are exciting, and the features are classic Marmot quality and style. So excited to try it out in a few months!

Plenty long for taller kids.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this for a 4' tall kid. Plenty of room in bag for a much taller kid. Quality seems good. Worth buying rather than getting a cheap heavy one.
