Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

Great shoe. I feel it runs a bit small, probably by a half size. Right foot felt fine, left was a bit cramped. Big toe box. Super light. Went on a few walks, stepping on rocks to see if i could feel them through the sole, couldn't. I would've loved to take them for a run, but with the shoes a bit small, I didn't.
I've been a fan of Altra from the beginning. I have seen them change over the years and expand their offerings. The "Experience Form" is okay. It doesn't live up to the original shoes but it's comfortable enough to wear around and occasionally run in. I got a half-size larger (size 11) than I normally wear (size 10.5). The shoe felt narrower than their normal wide toe box style so a little extra room was nice. The heel/tow drop was small and I didn't notice it much. The weirdest part about the shoe was that it was all white. I don't normally buy shoes for fashion but these made me feel good about looking good. The all white style was a nice way to spruce up my outfit. And feeling comfortable was a nice perk. But the clean white didn't last long. After a few days, they got splashed with some muddy water. All in all, a decent shoe that would be good for walking and some light running. Or get the all white to look nice at your next event.
I really enjoyed this running shoe. It has plenty of cushion for long runs on hard pavement. The toe box is wide enough to let your toes move around, but not wide enough that they feel insecure. There are also small foam pieces that protrude around the heel that really lock your foot in place. I was unsure if I would like those, but they really helped. I have struggled with my heel slipping in other shoes, but not these.
Huge heat spell lately but was able to put about 20 miles on the treadmill and 5 miles around the neighborhood on these puppies. Overall a solid runner! Fit - true to size. The toe box is wide but doesn't feel overly washy for the size. The heel cup is perfect with nice maleolus support and a high tongue on the back. Comfort - normally like zero drop shoes but the 4mm drop isn't too shabby. The sole is nicely supportive and cushions well for each stride. I am pretty flat footed but it still feels decent enough. Performance - sole is decently grippy and I appreciate having some legit rubber vs entirely foam. Lateral support is not super great, but fine for a road shoe. Overall - worthwhile offering from Altra. The standard width fit feels great, and coupled with a nice heel cup, is very secure.
This is the pair of shoes that got me interested in Altras all over again. I go through phases of shoe preference and had forgotten how much i love the comfort of the wide toebox in a pair of Altras. It's like wearing a combination of other running shoes but without your toes being crammed in a wedge. The other cool feature is the low level toe lift on the front of the shoes. You know how your toes point directly at the sky? Me neither. I need enough to roll my foot during a long stride but i definitely dont want my foot strained during rest periods. Altra killed it with the shape of this shoe. There isnt much to say about a good shoe like this. Sometimes i take walks, sometimes i go jogging and sometimes i will do some training runs. The wide toebox, the low toe lift and the cushion in the sole make it a great running sneaker and daily. If i was forced to say something negative, i just couldnt. Theyre a sophisticated and high end version of the Altras you expect.
These shoes are very good and comparable with other shoes and brands near the price point. Right out of the box I ran 7 miles in them and there were no pain or blisters. So far I’ve ran over 50 miles and they are holding up great. The toe box is a little wider which is a good thing. I normally wear a 10 wide but these fit great in a 10. The soles are holding up great too. It’s been hot and I run on new and old asphalt and the soles show minimal wear.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These shoes are great a true fit. There is extra room in the toe box for comfortably. When running the shoes breathe very well and the heel is cushioned just enough for indoor and outdoor use. The back lip is reinforced to help heel and ankle support as well.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] am genuinely impressed with this shoe. Right out of the box I did what most folks say you shouldn't do, and took them for an 8 mile trail run. These shoes were incredibly comfortable. While there is zero drop, the cushion strikes the exact right balance for putting on some miles without feeling every rock and root. I was concerned that the wide toe box might lead to too much lateral play up front, but that wasn't the case at all. I've hiked and run in barefoot shoes as well as maximum-type shoes like Hokas, this was my first experience with Altra and I can unequivocally state that I am now an Altra fan.
I was thinking these shoes might have a tad too much lift in the back but they’re actually a great feel on my flat feet. They’re light weight and comfortable on both casual and long runs. They grip the road nicely and even work well on dirt/gravel roads. Will be running with these for a long time!
I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. These were the first pair of Altra's I have owned or tried on, so I was interested to see how they wore. First impressions coming from other running shoes is that the toe box is significantly roomier and visually quite larger than others. I understand that is part of the appeal of Altras, but it does continually catch my eye when wearing them (not in a good way), especially in all white. From the side, this is less noticeable but it does feel a bit like wearing a much bigger and less sporty shoe. I appreciated the variety in shades and textures on the shoe, especially the off-white color of the soles, which has shown to be less prone to noticeable staining. The mesh uppers in white do stain quite easily, but I have been able to clean with a damp rag. Overall, the style of the shoe does feel a bit "stuffy" and my wife has commented that they aren't exactly the sportiest shoes I own! The fit feels good for me, with a medium to narrow foot, and I liked the laces and how well they tied tight and stayed tied. There is a slight forward angle to the shoes, but nothing severe or terribly noticeable. When walking, they role nicely heel to toe and I the springiness is on the higher side. Comfort is good out of the box, and they broke in without much fuss. Where they will find space in my rotation is as functional training shoes, due to the comfort and wide sole profile's added stability. But ultimately, the style is just not there for me to want to wear these as casual wear, so try long term use will be limited.
