Great for car camping and beach days
Love that this pump came in a handy pouch for easy storage. The instructions were printed on the bag so it didn't take long to configure. Note: you do have to provide your own bucket. Took this on a beach trip as well as on a short car camping trip and it was perfect for hand washing / light dish washing for when the water pump was a bit further away. The foot pump worked well. Took a bit of time to clean the tubes afterwards but that's because you don't want any mold or other yucky build up. Overall, a great purchase if you're a frequent beach go-er or car camper!
Overall okay
In theory this is a good basic pump. It worls well when the clamp is in the horizontal position, however the design works less well in the vertical position, as the scre for the clamp gets in the way of the tubing that goes to the faucet.
Easy to assemble, easy to use
Easy to put together, the foot pump is perfect for camping. You can wash your hands, wash your cookware, or wash up with this pump. It doesn’t take up too much space, and you can easily disassemble and reassemble as needed.
Easy, compact and useful!
Now, is this a little bit of a camp luxury item? Yes. You're not taking this backpacking. It's definitely a car-camping gadget, but what a useful gadget it is! I set it up first in my backyard to make sure I'd know what I was doing--easy. The instructions are located on a flap of the storage bag and set up takes about 3-5 minutes. The trickiest part is finding a good place to clamp the faucet (a swivel head on the jaw makes it pretty easy) and a good receptacle (or two) for clean water. You may want a second receptacle (or dig a sump) for dirty water. I used a 13-gallon bucket for clean water (but any camping water container would work) and a smaller camp sink for dirty water. Great for hand washing, cooking, etc. There obviously isn't much pressure, so if you're trying to clean off stuck on food from dishes, you're going to need warm water, but otherwise it's great. I don't advocate clamping to a tree or other natural objects, but I tried it just to see if it would hold as well as a camp table and it was great.
Great Option!
The REI Co-Op Campwell faucet and pump is a great simple design that solves the problem of not having pressurized water while out exploring. It comes in a self contained sinch-sack and has easy to follow instructions printed so you can’t misplace anything. The design is simple, and it took under 5 minutes to get setup. Once finished using the faucet on our trip, we disassembled everything to make sure it had time to fully dry out. Pro: easy to use, good amount of water pressure, clear labeling, easy to assemble/disassemble. Cons: the nozzle on the faucet has a really wide spray and kept over spraying the bucket. I would be interested if this could be used in a national park with water usage rules (due to wildlife).
Perfect for tent camping
Perfect for tent camping. This is one of those things you don’t think you actually need—but then once you have it—you realise you absolutely do need. Light, easy to setup, and the greatest to have around camp for hands/dishes and all of the things. We used way more than I thought we would, also used for a foot wash/kid wash.
Great pump, okay faucet and clamp
Picked this up to make a little camp sink when camping. Overall the pump is great and works really well. The faucet however could be improved. The neck is a little too short. It would have been nice if they provided an extension so that you could use the whole thing plus a small tub on a table. I will be to 3d printing my own extension so I can use it on a table top. As is, you will generally aim the faucet away from the table since the head is so short. The spray also gets pretty wide if you have a bucket far down below. You can unscrew the nozzle for a single stream which is nice. The clamp is made of plastic and flexes as you mount it to anything. Because of this flex, you don't want to crank it all the way down, as the plastic will just bend potentially to the point of failure. But because you can't crank it down, the clamp can wiggle around. Its not super secure, but considering how lightweight the faucet is, hopefully this won't be an issue. Only time will tell how long the clamp lasts from the repeated flexing.
Easier than making one DIY.
I read the other reviews before I went and purchased this in-store. And I agree with all the complaints of the clamp and tubing. The way the tube goes in the clamp area does make it problematic, but not impossible to work with. My other recommendation would be to have some kind of non-slip padding, on the bottom of the foot pump. If you're on grass, it's probably fine, but it slips around a lot on a smoother surface. I'll be adding some kind of padding to keep it in one place. Why I purchased this, is I'll be doing a large group camp with several people needing to wash their hands. I was attempting to build one of these myself, and all the trouble shooting just led me to purchase this. And it was honestly worth it, despite its slight design flaws. However, I also waited until it was 40% off to purchase.
Handwash Station!
Silly REI. Poor name choice, this is a handwash station! Perfect for river trips.
Great fro rafting!
This thing works great. It is a little bulky, but the flow rate is great. Much more water comes out compared to other more expensive options. This definitely should have been called a Hand Wash Station, the name REI gave it is a bit confusing.
