Almost perfect
I have a VERY old Reliance water storage jug (probably 20-30 years). The spigot got jammed and broke off the way many people experience, but the jug is “back in the old days” high quality so I wanted to try replacing the lid instead of throwing it out. The new lid itself did not fit my jug - water was pouring out, they must have changed the threading on the lid itself. I cleaned out the broken plastic threads from my old lid and used the new lid’s seal to replace the ancient one in the old lid, and was able to build myself a lid that doesn’t leak. it wasn’t a direct replacement and isn’t perfect, but for under $10 to keep my old jug going instead of buying a poor quality new one for $50, I’m very happy.
Okay If You're a Gorilla!
One has to have gorilla strength to turn the valve knob. Not even doable one handed for the average person. If the container is not full, it spins as you try to turn the knob.
Does not fit 7gal Aqua Tainer
I have an approximately 10 yr old aqua tainer - the original spigot and cap are white. Bought this to replace the cracked spigot, however no combination of new and/or old parts will work. The new (red) cap has different threads so it will not line up at all to even begin to thread it on the container. The new spigot with the old (white) cap fit together but the spigot position, when tightened, won't line up pointing down. The product photo on the REI website shows this replacement cap assembly as white, so buyer beware that it's actually the new (red) version and will not work to replace the old (white) assembly. Super frustrating, as now I just have to buy a whole new aqua tainer.
Just one minor issue
These are just as advertised and they do work perfectly, BUT there is one minor issue. My Reliance Aqua-tainers are 35 - 40 years old. I don't know when Reliance did it, but at some time they made a very slight change to the thread patten of the containers. These spigots ill NOT fit the older models. Instead of returning them, I decided to keep them as spares and bought new Aqua-tainers at WalMart for $19.95 and these replace spigots fit perfectly on the new containers. My advice is, if you have really old containers, simply buy entire new containers or be prepared for the ne spigots to not fit.
Difficult to turn on and off.
II have used Reliance water containers for years, the spigots are very hard to turn on and off. This last replacement cracked in freezing temperatures when I turned it. I like the containers, but hate the spigot. I have just found an alternate solution to the Reliance spigot issue.
Bad Design-Spigot Leaks
After a few uses the spigot points upwards! Also the new design spigot is hard to screw on to the older Aqua-Tainer. It is like the threads don't quite match! Reliance needs to re-think the spigot and make a better one.
Reliance Water spigot replacement
I love the new design! Easier to turn especially for little hands. The seal seems to be improved. I am much happier with these spigots then the original. We live in a dry cabin and haul water. These are used on a daily basis as often as you turn your faucet on these seem to hold up well.
Not a tight seal
Will need to use plumbing tape on threads as the replacement spigot leaks after thoroughly tightening.
Water
Fit one of my many 5 gallon water containers that over the years gets the spigot busted up, this did not fit the one planned for but was able to use on another, important to measure the size and threads as no universal.
Good for price
Glad I was able to locate a replacement spigot! This seems to be the issue with this water carrier. I have never had an issue with the actual reservoir however I have had to replace spigot twice now. While you can easily go to hardware store and rig something up to get by this is definitely the way to go.
