Bad start, great recovery
Love the base unit but don't like the spout as it broke first time out. Yeti overnighter a replacement and spare gratis, proving again their best-in-class customer service. Even with steel bridge and rubber bumpers the spout seems to be a weak link. Might never happen again, but immediate failure leaves me to wonder. Seems like a steel spout would be a good idea. I'm going to see if I can find one that works. Maybe a half-turn garden hose faucet? Amazingly it didn't leak when I put it on its side out of necessity. First Yeti failure out of 6 drinkware products and 4 coolers and tons of use. Won't negatively influence future purchases at all.
Leaks
Let me start by saying I love Yeti and I have many of their products, but this product is garbage. I live in Colorado do a lot of off the grid camping thought this would be perfect and purchased from my local hardware store. I took a camping once, and it performed perfectly. Next camping trip was packing to go and noticed a large puddle underneath the cooler. Saw that it was leaking at the spout, luckily I was able to return it for a full refund. Yeti needs to look into the leaking issue. Just purchased a similar product from etrailer and so far I’m very impressed with it. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come from Yeti.
Beats the Heat
Bought this to use in the Southwest USA. Went through southwest Texas and New Mexico in June-July living out of vehicle. It absolutely keeps ice for 4-5 days in the back cap of a truck which gets over 120 F. Is an excellent addition for extended car camping. We enjoyed cold drinks in the evening and iced coffee in the morning that would’ve been impossible with other products. The nozzle is not yeti quality. You have to have your container right up on it as water also leaks out of the valve so there are two separate streams of water. I brought this up with Yeti but the new nozzle also performs the same. The bottom of the cooler (inside) also leaves some sort of residue that looks like black specks that are impossible to clean. These wouldn’t be complaints for a cheaper cooler… but this is not a cheap cooler.
Good Design, lacking Insulation for the Price
I purchased this jug expecting a high-quality water vessel, and while the design elements are great, its primary function—keeping drinks cold—is sorely lacking. It is indeed rugged, simple to clean, and genuinely nice looking. However, despite understanding that it is not a double-insulated steel tumbler, I expected much better thermal retention for the cost. Ice melts shockingly fast in this jug, essentially rendering it just a sealed cup for holding water. For this price, I expected superior performance. If you only need a durable, easy-to-clean jug and don't care about keeping ice for more than an hour or two, this is fine. But if you want your drink to stay cold, look elsewhere
Awesome Jug
I decided to invest in one of these for get-togethers or for use on the road. Bought it recently for a family get together to try for the first time. It held plenty punch, poured fast/smooth and stayed cold outside (although it wasn't very hot outside). After pouring and releasing the button, you need to leave the cup there a second and catch the last drops. It only did this sometimes. I haven't tried it on the road yet, but think it will be good for trips for us and the dog to have water on tap. Easy to clean and the spout can removed / disassembled to clean as well. I wish it came in different colors especially since this product has been out forever. Would buy it again in another color.
6 Gallons of Party Fuel!
Owning many other Yeti products including a Tundra cooler, I knew I had to have the Silo 6G. I just needed to find an excuse to convince my wife we needed one. When she told me we were hosting a New Years Eve party this year and she needed a large container to hold bulk libations, I knew this was my prime opportunity! Last night we prepped 6 gallons of spiked punch and it fit perfectly! While we opted for no ice to prevent watering down our concoction, I have no doubt about ice retention. There is one thing I wish Yeti would have included on the Silo 6G, a lock-out on the spigot. As soon as we got the Silo all filled up with our ingredients, what was the first thing my 4 year old did? She went over and pushed the button, causing boozy goodness to efficiently flow through the Surepour Spigot all down the front of her and all down the front of my white cabinets. Oh well, at least we still have 5.9 gallons to ring in the new year with. Yeti, once again, has knocked it out of the park!
Excellent
Actually shocked at how good this water cooler is no bs. I used to have one of the traditional round water coolers on the back of my work truck and switched to one of the silos. First of if you plan on putting ice in and letting it melt I hope you have a couple of days seriously and I live in NC
Roto molded Water Cooler, The Silo makes me smile!
Using this for the first time while camping. Made as well as other YETI hard coolers. There are molded in handles, but not any other handles. Overall it is a great addition to other YETI products, keeps plenty of cold ice water for days.
Sturdy as a yeti should be
Yup so worth it! The nozzle even comes apart for cleaning
I need a second one in another color
This is perfect. I took it camping for four days and it held a 5 gallon bottle of water and a 7 lb bag of ice perfectly! Having easily accessible drinking water available to fill up water bottles and the dogs' water bowls without leaking everywhere was great. Water was icy cold the entire time, but it was fall camping; I'll likely use about 20 lbs of ice and 3 gallons of water when summer camping in 95 degree plus weather! I REALLY want a second one in another color (preferably Harvest Red) for gatorade (or margaritas), even if it was a lower capacity, say 3 gallons. Also used this one over the summer in a barn for water at a rehearsal dinner and wedding and never ran out. Absolutely the best water cooler/dispenser out there!
