Bulky and large

I bought these to replace my beloved Salomon x line mid-height light hikers from 2020/2021 which have held up incredibly well despite literally hundreds of miles of hiking on mixed terrain and wet/dry conditions. Suddenly, my hikers were too small and I don’t know what happened since my feet seem to fit all my other shoes just fine. So…I bought these in an 8 since my old shoe was a 7.5. They are a tad large so I’d like to try them in a 7.5 before deciding if these are a fail or not, but will wait until I’m near a physical REI store to do so. Anyway, these are significantly bulkier than previous versions and the ankle shaft doesn’t lay as well as previous versions which makes the ankle uncomfortable when laced. I’m not sure if that’s due to the shoe being too large or if it’s me, but it’s enough of a design flaw or fit issue that I don’t want to hike in them. The footbed did feel nice though and was a more flat and even feel than the Outpulse Mid GTX which I also tried, and the stride felt more natural and comfortable than the other shoe, albeit a bit bulky likely due to the size. I tried it with a mid weight wool hiking sock and still had quite a bit of wiggle room. For foot reference, I have a narrow heel but wider ball of my foot and moderately low arches. My foot is 9.6 inches long and I usually wear a 7.5/8 in normal shoes but an 8.5 in running shoes.

Falls apart in 2 hours

First mistake was buying these August 12 from Sportsman’s warehouse. Never again. Only buy shoes at REI from now on. I hiked a total of two hours in these boots when the upper lace hook just popped off. This was on dry groomed trails. Sportsman’s warehouse took three phone calls and uploading numerous photos and then said no, they won’t take them back because I had worn them. Absurd. I said I bought them to wear much more than two hours. Nope, won’t take back. Now I am hooked up with Salomon company. They are responsive and I had to upload 5 photos. But now they say it is in review and they might give me a voucher. Might!

Salomon Company is responsive.

Ok, I just did a 1 star review because the lace hook fell off after 2 hours hiking. Salomon did get me a voucher just now so they are sending me a new pair. The email said it would take them 5-7 days to review the issue. But it took them less than an hour. So really top notch service! I hope the new ones last because these are the most comfortable stable boot I have had and I hike way over 500 miles a year. I fell in love with these the first mile. I hope they hold up.

So far so good.

I purchased these boots a couple of months ago to replace a pair I purchased that were advertised as waterproof, but were not. I had the opportunity to hike and walk in both dry and wet conditions. First, I would say that these boots are very comfortable from the first day. There was no breaking in period. Second, I wore the boots on daily walks in wet grass and in over-the-toe puddles, and they kept my feet completely dry. I am pleased to date. My hope is they will stay waterproof for as long as the sole lasts. That is how long my last 2 pair of Salomon hiking boots did which was for over 10 years each..

Light waterproof comfy

So glad I got these boots. I was looking for a hiking boot with ankle stability but light and waterproof. I walk my dogs in rough footing woods and fields every day and am nearing 70. Important to have dependable footwear. I feel they are perfect for every season except summer, when they may be a little more boot than needed. Overall very good choice

Loved them, until I didn’t

I loved these boots, lightweight and very comfortable. The top lace hook would sometimes catch on the lace from the other boot but I fixed that by got double lacing through the lace hooks. The problem arose when the place my foot bends on the tow box wore a hole and now they are not longer water proof. I’m bummed.

Problem with lace hooks

I kicked one of the upper lace hooks while hiking in the boots and it popped off. These should be riveted into the boot. But instead they are pushed into some sort of reviving plate and maybe glued there? Very poor design for serous hikers who may be miles into the backcountry and have these boots break.

Comfortable boot but won’t stay dry in light rain

These boots are comfortable, great to walk in, give me good support at the ankle…but aren’t ACTUALLY WATERPROOF! I don’t know if it’s a factory mistake, but if I walk in a *mowed* field of wet grass for 1 hr, while it’s misting—not even raining—guaranteed my socks are wet. The water seems to seep into the boot through the top fabric by the toe box. I know I’m not confusing it with regular foot sweat because I’m wearing smartwool socks and the right boot seems to seep more water than the left. Really like everything else about the boot, but I bought them expecting them to have some waterproofing. I don’t need my waterproof hiking boots to stay dry if I’m walking through a river, but if they can’t even handle wet grass and a bit of rain, that’s a waste of money.

Wonderful fit but supinate excessively

Incredible fit but too much supination I tried these on at the store and was immediately in love with them - until I started walking in them. The heel caused my foot to rotate inward (supinate) as my foot moved through the stride. What an incredible disappointment. I have a difficult time finding footwear that fits my feet comfortably and these felt fantastic as long as I wasn't walking in them. Otherwise it would have been a full 5-star rating.

Good replacement for Vaya

Great shoe, size might be 1/2 size too small

I bought this boot about a month ago to replace a previous model I had from Salomon. It was the closest to the Vaya. Feel is great overall, however the size is about 1/2 size too small. Ordered same size my old pair. That is the only complaint. I was a 6.5 in the Vaya and believe a 7 in these would have been better. They are super light weight, rugged, super water resistant too
