These shoes are so incredibly good it makes you wonder what everyone else is doing. Okay yes, shoes are very subjective but still. The first moment I put these on my feet I instantly knew they were going to be my next pair. In one sitting I tried a pair of Hokas, Altras, and these—two shoe brands I have good success with generally. I ran a mile in each and in that order. These completely blew those away and with ease. Comfort is incredible, response while running is very good, support is balanced, and they even look half-decent. In conclusion: these ARE the running shoes you're looking for.
I'm a notorious on again/off again runner. I found that I have some specific needs in order to keep going and perform the way I would like. 1) I supinate a little 2) my knees are not great. The wider toe box and platform of these shoes, paired with the great not-too-soft cushion really helped with both! I feel stable and I really feel like I just want to keep going! The lower drop and the roomy toes also feel very natural. I have a slim foot, so if you're the same don't let the toe box fool you, it still feels fine. Highly recommend!
I love Topo shoes. I have wide feet and like the shape of altras. But the last three pair I bought from Altra, started to disintegrate. The Topos I've bought have been pretty durable and comfortable.
On my second pair and love the fit and cushion. So comfortable. Will be getting a third soon.
The Topo Phantom 3 is an excellent road training shoe. I love them. The have a great fit, especially in the front. They feel comfortable during the short and long training runs. They also have decent heal support for a Topo (Topo is not noted for heal support). They might have the best heal area support of any Topo. I noticed that they changed the shoe for the Phantom 4. I decided to buy the 3. I do not like good shoes being messed with just to keep them lighter.
I had already had a good experience with Topo trail running shoes but needed something for the road. There weren’t much Topos on offer at the REI stores I went to, and no Phantom 4. I’m hoping REI will with the brand. I go lucky, though. The sales person said that there was one Phantom 3 left in exactly my size (still at $150). They are wonderful. I had pain on my right toes 2 and 3, more general pain on my right foot unrelated to running, and incipient plantar fasciitis on the left. These were no longer an issue with these shoes. My wife bought the same model in women’s. She is old like me and an accomplished runner x 20 years. She said these were the best running shoes she ever wore. The cushioning is similar to Hoka but with greater lateral stability. They are not for everybody, but the only ones for me.
These are amazing shoes...when being fitted by Fleet Feet, they pointed out that my right big toe kind of formed to the left of a straight foot line, and thus totally requires the Topo enlargement of the toe box. Everything else about it also top notch. Highly recommend....
Seemed like ok shoes. Staff said this was almost a "wide". But not wide enough.
