I loved the old design. They changed the heel cushion design from a V shape to a tongue design. Theres this peace of hard material that goes around the heel that may dig into your heel depending on your build. I bought a pair of the 5 model before they sold out. I'm keeping the 6 but I may just use it for daily walking and not heavy running.

Redesigned for 2026 and the shoe is no longer what it was. I bought these every year for the fierce outsole grip (black outsole’s only) on smooth wet polished urban surfaces and it’s excellent stability. By stability I mean it’s resistance to being rolled. In the older versions I could not turn my ankle no matter how hard I tried. In the revised version if I put too much weight on the outside edge of the shoe the foam suddenly collapses and it rolls right on over. The rigid external heel counters were eliminated and the shoe now invites orthopedic injuries. I used these for exploring granite fields around Stone Mountain Georgia and daily urban exercise. On the mountain, with the exception of the heels, they were supple and flexible, which let the outsole conform to the shape of the rock I was stepping on, increasing the contact patch surface area, enhancing grip. For me it was a hybrid cushioned boulder shoe with heel counters. Yes it’s a running shoe but slipping in urban environments is a problem and this was the solution plus it excelled on granite fields up to a 20% grade. The cushioning is ok for short runs and in previous versions the foam had a short lifespan before turning hard. The roomy toe box and general fit was left unchanged.

Ideal balance of cushion, stability, foot shape and just a touch of style. Better than most TOPO styling at least!

Are these shoes actually legal? Really, they're that comfortable!!!
