Great Jacket but not Waterproof

I didn't know this when I bought the jacket, but Gore-Tex Infinum which this has in it is NOT waterproof. My fault for not researching it more. I thought all Gore-Tex was waterproof. The tag in the jacket says it is water resistant and wind proof. Otherwise I really like the jacket. Build quality is high, it's warm, I enjoy the integrated hand pull out with a thumb hole that holds the arms in place. The fabric doesn't feel like it would tear easily. I'm going to return it because I need a waterproof jacket, but it is a great jacket if you don't need that.

Direct North GORE-TEX Down Jacket

Well made jacket! I’m 6 feet tall and weigh 165 pounds…in dress shirts I wear a 16 1/2 inch neck and 35/36 sleeve length. I bought the Large size. The jacket fits me great! I’ll use it for moderate hikes within Shenandoah National Park (Skyline Drive) in Virginia and around town. Temperatures during late Fall and Winter at SNP range from the upper 30’s to single digits including blustery wind and snow. Elevation range from 3,650 feet to 2,500 feet. I can’t wait for Fall/Winter hiking to start and I know this coat will keep me warm and protected from wind! That’s why I bought it and with the Labor Day sale I saved an additional $55!!

Legit

I read the only bad review from a guy named Jim say this jacket isn’t warm. Not true. This thing is really warm. I admit that I have a hard time staying warm so this is one of many jackets that I’ve owned that actually do that. I tested this jacket with only wearing a short sleeve shirt as my under layer in 20 degree and stayed toasty warm. I also love the vents that you can open if you get too warm. Love the fit. Love the hood. And this thing has pockets in all the right places. Awesome jacket.

Be prepared, the cold is coming

I live in Northern Michigan and June (when I purchased the item) is not typically the time of year you need a down jacket. However, the price was right, the quality of the jacket is outstanding, the fit is perfect for what I need, and colder weather will no doubt, be here soon enough. Would definitely recommend for anyone on the slopes.

Fully featured and very warm

This is a fantastic jacket, with and excellent fit and useful features. Definitely my go to jacket for gnarly conditions in the Pacific North West this winter. The hood is a good size for a ski helmet but it also compresses well around my head if I'm not wearing a helmet. Mountain Hardwear have really figured out a great system for this and the Direct North is a perfect example. I like the fit and also the length of the arms. There is a neat cuff to stop drafts and snow going up the sleeve. The fabric feels tough, yet it's still soft enough so its not annoying. I haven't used the powder skirt yet but it fits well. The soft fleece lined hand pockets feel amazing when I'm not wearing gloves and want to warm my hands up. If you're looking for one jacket to wear this winter that will keep you fry and warm, this is definitely worth checking out

not warm

I bought this coat on clearance based on the reviews that said it was a warm coat. It is not. I took it for a short walk on a 32 F day and was cold the entire time. It’s a little warmer than the fleece lined soft shell if that. I’ve had many different coats through the years, from parka’s to ultralight fleece. I’m glad I didn’t wait until it actually got cold to try it out.

NOT COLD!!!!

This jacket rocks! I have worn mine in conditions well below zero with wind chill and I was surprisingly comfortable. The GoreTex is not a waterproof layer like we are used to but is a wind proof layer that works great. It is unfortunate that this jacket is discontinued so I purchased another one in a different color.

Great jacket for cold days on the mountain

Kept me warm while skiing in Norway and California. Only wore a base layer underneath and would sometimes get too warm and I’m generally someone who runs a bit cold. At least you don’t have to worry about freezing on the lift back up

Nice, warm coat when the weather turns to heavy snow

Warm coat. A lot of pockets in the right places. The material appears to be high quality. Slightly larger than expected. Small size would fit better but the larger room will be nice when you later up.
