It's a good jacket, but I have some concerns about the nylon. I've been wearing this jacket for about two months. I have a dark-colored jacket; I would say it's dark blue rather than black. Pros. Overall, it's a very good jacket. It's warm and has good elastic at the bottom. It retains heat well and is very light, which was one of the main factors in my choice. The hood is a little too big, but I think that's because I chose a larger size (my size is M), as the reviews said it runs small. Cons. On the other hand, the zipper sometimes catches on the inside of the jacket, and today it tear up it. This upset me a lot, as I thought the material would be more durable.
Very warm, pertect fit, light, nice and very confortable jacket
Very warm, well made, light, wind resistant. The hood, however, is designed for adjustment only when wearing a helmet -- a drawstring at the back cinches it around the forehead, which will keep it from blowing off. Of course, most people do not wear helmets continuously. This adjustment leaves wide gaps at the sides and chin, exposing those areas to wind when not covered by a helmet. It should also have adjustments to cinch the opening closer to the face.
We picked up this jacket as well as a waterproof shell jacket for our son who is going to university in Denmark. He absolutely loves it and has pretty much worn it everyday since he got there. He loves how warm it is, that the quality is great and that he will have this jacket for all his adventures while he is in Europe during the winter. It was a little pricey but well worth the investment.
I bought the black color for casual wear in the winter and for cold days in the mountains. I was able to test it out in the Sierra this past weekend and it was everything I hoped for. It looks great, fits very well over layers, and is extremely light. On top of that, it is very durable. I was wearing it the entire time while I was at my camp and I was never once cold.
Sturdy shell, excellent warmth to weight ratio, excellent fit so I don’t look like a giant marshmallow. What I love most about this Jacket is the collar and hood design and construction, it offers excellent protection from the elements and is comfortable and roomy enough to move your head about freely without the jacket or hood binding up. Excellent product!
Super Warm! I love the jacket, but the sizing is a little weird. I’m 5.10, 180lbs and found the Medium to be too constricting in the arms/armpits. I went with a large because the movement of my arms and fit in the arm's was way better, but the torso is a bit big. Either way it’s fine because I can layer up underneath with another puffer!
Very warm. Pretty light and packable for the warmth (can compress to slightly bigger than a Nalgene bottle). Fit is standard. I’m 5’9, 155 pounds and the medium fits great over a base layer and fleece and under a shell. If you want it to fit over a shell (belaying or ski touring), I would personally go up a size. Great jacket overall.
Was shopping for a warmer down hoodie for upcoming trip to Norway. This MH item seems nicely constructed & detailed. However- fit did not work for me. In Medium, torso fit was great but shoulders too snug. I was able to try a size Large, the body was so voluminous it looked like I was pregnant. So- item was returned.
This jacket is WARM! We evaluated 10 different down jackets before selecting the Phantom. Other jackets ( from quality brands), did not compare. Everyone claims to have the same fill power... but no one advtises the weight ratio- (except MH and one other)- this jacket was easily twice the wartmth. - and fill.
