I had a cty coop 2.1, traded up to cty 2.2, now traded up to this wonder beast/black beauty bike. Cty were my first ebikes, I have biked for years, but am 61 , 5'4 180 lbs with a bad back, leg and rotator cuff. I rode both cty bikes 400 miles each last year. perfect bike---- except..... Cannondale fixed all the problems of the cty bikes. All road is ..... IT IS STEP THROUGH!!!!!!! (the cty was dangerous for me. 30 inch inseam.) Light has its own on/off button! Battery is easy to remove and replace--- with a handle!!!! ( six hour charge = 60 miles.) Love the shocks and wide tires--- necessary as the speed picks ups. Schrader tires, can use my old bike pump easily. Frankly is is more bike than I need, but is is a blast to ride. Acceleration is fast, power amazing. I took it home and played around--- with a bad knee. It has six sets of gears. ( cty 3). I made it up to number two and did a three block hill climb---- 18 mph--- no problem. The turning handling radius is tighter. The frame just fits better. no wrist pain after riding. The cruising speed of the cty was about 14 mph-- this is comfortable at 20 mph. I realize exercise, not speed, is the point of a bike-- but is is so much fun! Brakes are strong, responsive and fit the bike power. ( which is amazing). I added a seat cover, bought more bike locks! Bought a bear bell for the front to warn the world, and will add a crate to the back. the reflective tape wakes up drivers. added to bike index register right away. The only minor issue I can spot is---- very small charging plug in with finicky cover port cap. not the best to keep mud out. so I see duct tape solution. Hillsboro REI staff is amazing, we had fun adjusting-- seat forward- handlebars back. everyone was so nice. goal is 1000 miles this year. will report back at 500 miles!
I haven't had this bike for long, but so far it has been great. The motor is super powerful and you'd be hard pressed to find a 750w motor on another "brand" name bike at this price point. I had concerns about the Microshift drivetrain, but so far it seems great and I've had zero issues, and have actually been impressed with the clean shifting. Brakes work well and are appropriate for this bike's power and weight. The bike also comes with fenders, a rear rack, headlight, and rear brake light, which again adds to the value. The one qualm I have is that the motor feels more like a cadence sensor than a torque sensor. The website (and Cannondale) markets it as a torque sensor, but I have a hard time calling it that. I have noticed that the motor DOES provide more assist when I pedal harder, but the baseline output has got to be like 80% of the power regardless of how hard I pedal, making it feel like a cadence sensor. For example, I can slowly pedal to the extent that you wouldn't even be able to stay upright on an analog bike, but this bike has you rolling along at 22mph. Instead of it providing you an equivalent amount of power as you pedal harder, the range is from 80%+ - 100%, so you rarely get the feeling of actually pedaling on your own like you do on some true torque sensor bikes, until you get to a significant speed. This isn't really an issue for me as I use it for commuting to work and don't want to be sweaty walking in to the office, but for those wanting a more traditional bike feeling, this may not be the bike for you. But if you want tons of power, versatility, and a good value overall, I highly recommend.
This is my first e-bike, and I pretty much bought it on impulse. It's got a lot of features, sort of top-of-the-line of the not-quite-top-of-the-line bikes. Bafang components, which aren't bad except for the non-bluetooth computer/display. As someone else has said, it would be nice to be able to easily futz with the assist levels, because Level 1 just immediately zooms you up to 17 mph if you're on flats when you start pedaling. It's more like a cadence sensor bike on the flats and a torque sensor on hills. But man, it really can handle big hills. I can now go so many places in my area that I couldn't climb up to on an analog bike. I think it's a really solid Class 3 bike, but I will probably be upgrading to the Mavaro Neo 2 step-through for the next level up in components. Not really warning anyone away from this one, though!
It’s in the shop right now after just 6 weeks. I liked how it road hit was disappointed had to take it in already. I might upgrade if for some reason it needs to be replaced.
The bikes are in the shop a lot and are expensive to fix. REI will not help with warranty issues. There are no spare batteries available for these bikes - we have been waiting over a year for a spare battery and have been told they cannot be ordered. The service from REI is mostly terrible with no follow up calls - we have to keep calling back to check on progress. Also the labor estimates can add a lot of money to the jobs, and the bike experts at REI are hit or miss. UPDATE: 2/15 we still do not have our bikes back, we were told if we want spare batteries we would need a new wiring harness thus defeating the point of a spare battery. I requested to speak with a manager because we were not being contacted from the store and our bikes were not being repaired, everything is in limbo even though we are ready to pay and move on. Managers name was not provided, was told company policy prohibits them from giving out the store managers name. If we get our bikes back we will never take them to REI again, we will use a local bike shop that uses humans not notes in a computer, for their service.
The bike is a stallion! I have had it for two years and love it. The fatter tires allow for versatility on gravel or pavement. Has great pickup and battery has about 60 miles duration. It is a bit heavy--47 lbs--but manage. I'm a 76 year old rider.
Love my experience with REI and the bike I got, I am enjoying it to no end.
