These boots are light weight when you put them on BUT the cleats are SO deep that the mud and dirt collects in them. By the time I was done with my hike I would say that my feet weighed about 5 lbs more then when I started out. Once I took the boots off it was a pain trying to get the mud out of all the cleats. Mind you I have wore these twice once in dry conditions walking in the woods over dirt and leaves and once after a light rain. They collected mass amounts of debris both times. I have enjoyed all my Merrell shoes and boots I have bought over the years but these aren’t what I was expecting.

First real test of my new “waterproof” boots was a complete fail. Bought a new pair to replace my old Keens for a month long hiking vacation in the Canadian Rockies. Any amount of water on the trail causes water to seep in from low on the boot somewhere as the underside of the soles seem to be wetter than the tops. My socks are soaked and my flesh is bright white and water logged itself. My poor feet! If we were tent camping they’d never be dry by the next day. As is they have to sit over the heater vent upside down overnight to dry out. On the same trails, my husband’s boots are completely dry. So disappointing! Love how these boots fit and wear but if you can’t trust them for dry feet they are unwearable in the mountains.
I bought these boots for my daughter for hiking/hunting this season. To start, they fit well and are super light. Unfortunately, we only hiked a total of 3 miles on a manicured trail and the soles started falling apart. Would have expected better durability from Merrell.
Love these boots. After decades of using Merrell Moab, I went for the higher ankle support and I'm delighted! Not joking, they are the lightest pair of SHOES I own. I'm 60 days in, the shoelace broke at ankle, so buy spares. I also notice the tread is wearing on the foot pad. I like the aggressive tread for hiking loose gravel. They are sticky, so jumping from rocks over creeks is really solid. Would also recommend a second spray of water repellent. If I'm chasing the dog in the wet grass, there seems to be a small spot on top for moisture to enter.
Too narrow for me. I'm a long time merrell Moab mid fan, but after the millionth sprained ankle I've been looking for something with higher ankle support. Unfortunately these are too narrow in the midfoot, esp for someone with flat feet- it felt like something was sticking up into my arch. Ironically despite me having a narrow heel and wide toe box, the toe box fit perfectly. I'm going to look at the merrell website to see if they have wides although I've never worn wide width before. Look well made and otherwise comfortable except for feeling like something was rubbing against my right ankle.
I just did 280km in 7 days, in my Rogue Hikers. They are wonderfully light and supported my feet. It did not keep the rain out, after walking for 9 hours in non-stop rain. But, I think no Cortex could keep feet dry for that amount of hours. I did 55km on one day, and I do not think it would have been possible with different shoes. It was great for walking on dirt and rock, and the grip was great even in the rain.
Appreciate your positive feedback!
Super comfy, rugged, great support! I’m pretty active these boots hold their own!. Own 3 pair!
Thanks for your awesome feedback!
I loved them but the sole started coming off after about a month.
I bought SIX pairs of these because they are the ONLY boot/shoe that works for my feet. I have had one pair for a year and ahalf. I can walk off the trails, which I never could before. I can walk in water. I just did it with one of the pairs that I have had over a year. TWO different people on the chat assured me that Rogues were being discontinued, and they have changed my life, so I needed quite a few pairs in that case. Now I see that they are not discontinued. Too bad I don't get the cool new color, unless I can sell off one of my barely-used pairs (in each of last year's colors) to someone. Women's size 10, anyone? Sigh. I would post a photo of my shoes in the creek, above the laces, but the site won't let me for some reason.
I wanted to love this boot for it's higher ankle profile and gaiter rings. Sadly, the traditional roomy toebox is gone and the laces were too short to double knot.
