Night and Day compared to Vans Sk8 Hi
These shoes just function. As the title states, i was previously riding mtb with Vans Sk8 Hi. I loved these shoes and figured i would give a mtb specific shoe a try. These truly are a night and day difference. I bought them for a trip to Arizona and couldnt be happier with them after close to 100 miles on them so far. Pros -super rigid sole provides a much better platform -sticks to my pedals (Deity Black Cat) like glue but also easy to make microadjustments when needed -toe protection has saved the toes on a few occassions -laces stay tied -recycled material seems to be able to take a beating -still has an old-school skate shoe look without being obnoxious like most mtb specific shoes -fair price especially if on sale Cons -sounds like youre wearing wooden clogs when you run into the gas station to grab a snack lmao -can be bulky feeling because of the harder sole but not terrible -ive heard they take a while to dry once wet, but do yourself a favor and get a boot dryer. I put mine near a dehumidifier after every ride and they are ready to go the next day Just go get em
So disappointed, adidas ruined a good product
I have owned 5.10 for years now. My first pair of Adidas shoes have already worn through the sole after just 4 month they already look like 2 year old 5.10’s. They are also way less comfortable to wear. The photo shows a shoe worn for 2 years pretty heavily and the 4 month old one. So disappointed
Hard shoe to beat
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was a little skeptical that the shoes would be as great as tbey have been rated and reviewed on this site and across the web. However, they really are amazing and this goes for their comfort, performance, and aesthetics. I tried on the standard Pro, and the canvas version is much more comfortable to me out of the box. They are competent for scrambling and hike a bike situation‘s, though shoes with more aggressive tread patterns might perform a little better in those, I’d rather get a shoe that performs top notch in 95% of situations than a shoe that is pretty decent in all situations. I’m curious how the tread would hold up to wearing these more casually as I’m really not wanting to take them off after my rides.
The best shoe I have tried for flat pedals ever.
The grip from these five tens coupled with my DMR V11s are hands down the best combo I have tried. I even like them more than being clipped in. The shoes are made well with a stiff sole for landings, ample support for your arches, and they are sturdy, standing up to abuse. The laces are short so when double knotted they will not get caught in your drivetrain. Once you get your foot on the pedal it is basically glued in place. I typically wear a 12.5 and ordered a 13 since five tens run small and it’s a perfect fit!
Corporate America strikes again
When Five Ten was bought out by Adidas, I rushed to purchase a couple pairs of my favorite iteration of the Freerider Pro before they were drastically changed. I did this as I was worried the quality and durability would decline once they were redesigned by an athletic shoe giant. My last pair of OG Freerider Pros died this season, and I thought I would give the new model a chance. Unfortunately that was a mistake, and my concerns were validated. This shoe is severely lacking support and a hole is wearing into the sole after 6 rides. The shoe itself is light and really comfortable, but I see myself getting a couple months of enduro riding out of this pair before they are toast. Disappointed in the current quality of what was once considered to be the pinnacle of flat pedal shoes. As a result I do not foresee myself purchasing another Five Ten product in the future.
Design-Quality-Price
I bought it for my son. Foot size 250mm bought 8 1/2 (42 2/3). They are not too small. Another 1 cm left in reserve. Width is good. The tarpaulin is smooth and pleasant to the touch, easy to wash. The sole is tenacious. The sock in the PRO model is rigid, protects the toes. The tongue is thick. They look great.
Haven't tried these for riding? Do it! #Hardsole
If you have only ever rode with your avg vans or etnies shoes, and I'm talking on MTB or BMX or MX anything with a peg or pedal, these will enlighten you to how much of a difference a hard sole shoe can make! And then add the no slip grip stealth rubber... pshhh bet you never wear an avg shoe again riding.
Could be better, Plus and a minus...
Good shoe. A little spendy in my opinion. The heel started blowing out four months after I bought them. If I was one who slipped my shoes on instead of tying them, then I would say thts normal, but I have slipped them on about 3 times and the heel is starting to go... that's sad. Quality should be better.
Pros are a great upgrade from standard freeriders
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My first pair of freerider pros. I always wore regular freeriders. Now I get why people say these are better. I love the way they fit. I love the way they look, but most importantly I love the way they ride.
Not as Good As They Were Before Adidas
I've has three previous Five Tens before Adidas took over, and I must say the quality/construction has suffered. The new Canvas Freerider Pros I bought are disappointing. My main complaints are: (1) the fit is different than before, with the Adidas version running narrower than the originals; and (2) the quality control is poor. The tongue on one shoe was sewn in crooked causing it to shift to one side while riding. This wasn't apparent when trying them on in the store.
