I highly recommend this parka. I have a hard time finding appropriate times to wear the coat because it is SO amazingly warm. Snow or wind does not get through this coat. The length is great if you are taller. As a 6 foot female, I have found some long female parkas are too short - not this one!

Heavy and cold!

The coat is beautiful to look at but it is not functional. It weighs a lot, so it’s very cumbersome if you want to take it off to shop, etc. additionally, I tested this coat out in Chicago on a cold but not freezing day with light to moderate wind. I have never been so cold while wearing a coat. I didn’t have zipper issues like some has mentioned, but the front pocket placement is not going to help keep your hands warm either.

Really wanted to like it

I really wanted to like this parka given all the positive reviews. I like that it has a cinch around the waist area and the colors are fab. However, this parka is not as thick or warm as I expected given the REI "warmest" rating. I wore it in 40 degree weather and felt like it should have been warmer than it was. Is it just me? The parka is thinner than I expected. I'm 5'2" 120 lbs. S fit great with minimal layers underneath, though I think it would be too tight with anything thicker, especially in the arms. Not sure if a M would be too long/big. I'd probably only buy this parka if it were under $200. Currently it's on sale for around $240.

Northern California Approved!

I live in NorCal, temps can dip out here. Just in time for all the rain we are getting in my county. This jacket protects against wind and rain. I like the length, (I am 5'4''). I like the material. I especially love how there is NO velcro anywhere and NO fu-fu faux trim. Great deep pockets. Adjustable wrist with snap buttons. Tail has zipper if needed to expand width, I have not had to unzip even when I am driving. I looked for a while to find a suitable parka for myself, glad I found the one. I got it in Black in Medium. The size chart is accurate. But the Ginger color was really nice too! Have not used in snow yet, but I know it will do awesome in Tahoe.

Great coat

There were no reviews when I purchased this coat, but it was worth the risk! I love it! It's warm and feels more durable than my long Northface puffer coat (which I still love but it needed to be replaced ). I'm 5'10, broad shouldered and have extra long arms. I purchased the large and it fits my shoulders and covers my wrists completely which is a big deal for me. The sweater cuff keeps the cold from sneaking up my sleeves. It's roomy, but not bulky or oversized. I like coats that allow me move and bend comfortably in them. It's longer than I thought it would be when standing. Sitting, it covers my butt against a cold bench, but not the back of my thighs.

Good every day winter coat

Pros: -stylish details with nice silhouette -drawstring waist -smooth texture without being a lint trapping black fabric -waterproof without a shiny/plasticky look or feel -2 way zipper Cons: -needs side entry hand pockets -needs internal zip pocket -not quite as warm as I’d like for MN winters -hood is a bit short/small -zipper can be a bit finicky

Great winter coat for casual outings and dog walks

I recently moved to Anchorage, AK and wanted a coat that would cover my bum and keep me warm when not doing high energy activities. I would say my cold tolerance is pretty ok (I’ve now run outside in -4 weather with just base layers, a heavy fleece and thick gloves), but when slowly walking my dog or scraping ice off my windshield in the morning, this is great! The hood is very deep and I appreciate the snaps vs Velcro (no ruining my knit scarves). I bought the tan color and really like the heritage design mixed with the great technical features. Again, most importantly, it keeps me cozy (almost hot if the temps are above 15 and I’ve been walking for more than 10 minutes). I got the large so I’d have room for my shoulders/layering (I’m 5’7, 155 lbs, athletic build with more shoulder and smaller bust), and it’s a little roomy in front, but I prefer that.

Fabulous in Columbus

Love this coat: it is replacing my Patagonia. I am 5’1”, 140 lbs. Windproof, waterproof, and fab at 20 degrees. With it had a two way zipper and interior pockets, but love the back tail zipper for a long stride. My daughter lives in a much colder area of the Midwest, and turned me on to this coat. Shout out to REI customer service: my order was delayed significantly- I escalated, they set a replacement immediately, with provisions to return the original shipment. I received the replacement order forts, and was able to return the original when it arrived a week later quite easily at Staples UPS.

As advertised!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a truly great coat! I was looking for something waterproof - the winter coat I already had was supposed to be "water-repellant," but whatever coating they used to make it that way must have worn off after the first season. I live in New York and really need a waterproof coat for walking my dog when it's in the 40s and just warm enough to rain instead of snow. This coat really is perfect for that - it's very warm and so far, definitely waterproof as advertised. I am usually between and Small and Medium and opted for the Medium to allow for more layers - the fit is exactly what I wanted. Overall, would highly recommend!
