I wore this jacket in the snow (below freezing) SC recently received and it kept me very warm. It held up well in the snow and was waterproof! It was also easy to layer over a long sleeve AND a sweatshirt without it feeling tight. I got a size medium and I am 5' 4'' and 145lbs. It seems perfect so far!
I love this coat but be aware- it is only 600 FP, NOT 700. Also the pockets are in the weirdest location; up near your armpits. Not the typical hip area. It runs a little small as well. I ordered a large and it's a little snug, when typically a large would be loose on me.
Super warm-tried this out on the deck on a cold Michigan winter day, but alas, I just don't have the right shape for this coat. It is cut straight and I am so not shaped like that. The sleeves are too long (which I expected, but hoped I could make them work) and it was slightly snug. No room for a heavy layer. Pockets are ok, but could be larger. Zippers are never great on NF. Overall, it didn't work for me, mainly because of the slender fit. I'm normally a large, ordered the XL, looked way too puffy. Sent back for a return. It is warm and very lightweight.
Excellent experience. In store, found exact coat we wanted, but not the correct size. Store Associates were so helpful in ordering the correct size. Within two days, the correct size coat arrived, and we're extremely helpful. Thanks REI.
Wanted to get a head start and get my winter coat early this year before the good ones sold out! I love this coat. I was glad I sized up since I tried it on wearing a sweatshirt and it fit comfortably!! For reference, usually I wear a small size in shirts and I ordered a medium. (Also with wide hips I fully recommend sizing up) all in all, very happy with this purchase and have always been a fan of their winter coats.
I am 5' 3" 145lbs and ordered a small because I ordered another jacket in medium and it was extremely large. This jacket however, was extremely SMALL. I have hips and well the jacket would not come close to enough to zip. There was at least a 5 inch gap to get to the zipper. The upper body was ok but the fit was awkward. Not meant for a person with hips.....which lots of women have. Size up if you have hips.
I am 5' 2-1/2" tall, weight 126 lbs. The medium fits great. Fabric is soft and comfortable. Loved the warmth of the jacket in 15 degree temps while running errands. The hood fits close to keep the ears warm and can be cinched as tightly as needed. Minor drawbacks: the hand pockets are up higher than I would like, but still useful. Only one interior zip pocket; wish it had more.
This parka deserves a standing ovation and possibly a small parade. I put it on and instantly felt like a cozy, fashionable arctic explorer who still has places to be. The Hydrenalite City Down Parka is so cute, so warm, and so perfectly flattering that I'm honestly looking for excuses to go outside when it's cold. The navy color is absolute perfection. It looks exactly like the pictures, which feels like winning a tiny online shopping lottery. Rich, classic, and goes with everything. And let's talk about warmth: this coat doesn't mess around. It traps heat like it's guarding a sacred treasure. Wind? Cold? Negative vibes? Blocked. Best of all, it runs true to size. No sizing gymnastics, no "should I size up and pray" moment. Just order your normal size and prepare to be wrapped in stylish, toasty happiness. If you want a coat that feels like a hug, looks like a fashion statement, and performs like winter armor, this is the one. North Face absolutely understood the assignment.
I live in Minnesota and needed a warm jacket that isn't so bulky for riding in the car, walking the dog, running to get the mail, etc. This is perfect! It is a little longer so the wind is not blowing up my jacket and it packs down easily into my carryon. Recommending to all of my friends and family!
Fit is soft, cozy, warm, and the length is long enough to cover wrists and backside comfortably. The color is a soft, light creamy beige and the logo is not prominent (hooray!). I typically wear a medium and this fit beautifully.
