Nice Vest
The vest is very comfortable (I forgot I had it on because it was so cozy), light, adds a few degrees of warmth without being heavy, feels smooth, has handy pockets with zippers, and is sleek and stylish in appearance. I wore it around the house, hiking and rock climbing, at the beach/bay, and shopping. Cons: the length is fine, and it fits fine on the shoulders/traps, but the waist area is too wide and somewhat baggy. I would prefer a slimer fit. Perhaps it would help to have an expandable waist area that accommodated slender waists and stretched for more girth. Also, the Black Diamond symbol is barely visible on the chest and back. Black Diamond is a great brand and something to be proud of, so I would have suggested making the symbol bigger with, perhaps, the words "Black Diamond" near the symbol.
Packs small and keeps you warm.
I have worn the vest a few times now. The cut is a little different than I'm used to. It's snug in the armpits and pretty loose in the torso. I would have preferred a more fitted look. However, those who may need a bit more room in the lower torso will find it comfortable. It has two hand pockets and a chest pocket that function as expected. Very lightweight and warm. Perfect for spring or fall. It packs down to almost nothing so prefect for stuffing in a pack and using for layering. Quality is great. Would purchase from this brand again.
Warm, light, packable approach vest!
Took this vest on several overnight backpacking trips and day hikes in The Big South Fork, during Tennessee winter in February. I used it mainly for hiking/backpacking but would be great for climbing or running. It’s very warm where it covers and fit comfortably on me. It’s very lightweight and packs down nice and small. The pockets, especially on the sides are deep and help storage for gear. I found myself storing gloves, beanie, wool buff, phone, keys and wallet and still had room for snacks. I bushwhacked with it on and no holes, rips or abrasions, however the jacket constantly leaks feathers and could be a serious problem with the effectiveness of the down warmth over time. If you’re looking for a solid approach, running, cool shoulder months backpacking/hiking or summer sleep jacket, this is a great option for you. Pros: Solid craftsmanship Good quality material Seem like it will hold up well during light rugged usage Tested and warm in Tennessee winter Weather 17F-45F degrees (I’m hot natured) Used with a light jacket underneath when it got below freezing temps Lightweight Side/hip compression to adjust fit as well as keep in warmth Side pockets are deep and good for holding extra gear/snacks Chest pocket is very convenient for smaller items (keys, wallet, extra energy bars) Love the 3 color choices The zipper guard near the neck to keep the cold zipper off your neck is a great Medium fit is great for me (5’11”, 183 lbs, weightlifting fit male) Enough room to fit more clothing underneath but not too much to be considered bulky Packs down well Outer material seems to hold up better than expected Cons: Zippers are decent quality but there is better quality out there Constant feather leakage at unboxing and after daily use Doesn’t come with a stuff sack The neck baffle/wind protector is a tiny bit too tall, but this wouldn’t hinder my purchasing decision Cost for what you get, considering cottage companies will sell custom color options, hooded, long-sleeved puffers for less The only reason this vest doesn't get a perfect 5/5 is the down leakage and cost. Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend
Super warm, super light
This vest is amazingly warm considering how light it is. Weighs practically nothing, but still adds a considerable amount of warmth. I guess that’s goose down for you. Fit is great. A little snug across the shoulder blades, but it has good stretch and I’d rather have it snug than loose. Lastly, it looks great. I love the dark blue with the black zippers and piping. Understated Black Diamond logo on the front and back. Great attention to detail, all the way down to the drawstring eyelets (see picture).
Amazing in camping, hiking on cold days.
This light, excellent manufacture, vibrant color vest is one of my favorite pieces of gear not only for camping, hiking or road trip, also for work attire and going around the city for a casual walk. I receive this product for free in exchanged for an honest review.
Love this, but would not pay full price for it
I wore this vest out snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, and hiking. It provides ample warmth as expected, but breaths well also. I can't say anything negative about the performance of this vest. And I am not just saying that because I got it free as a demo. I would tell the truth either way as that is what we are told to do! But I will say I would not pay full price for this. The price point is much higher than similar vests and honestly how could this one be twice as good? It is well made, but certainly not bomb proof. I love it, don't get me wrong, but awfully pricey....
Buy this now!
TL;DR: LOVE THIS VEST! Buy one! Starting off, this is an excellent vest! I would genuinely recommend it! I first picked it up and it felt thinner than I expected. But then fell in love with it! I wore it around the house, walking through town, while golfing, driving, and working. The fit is perfect. Long enough to not ride up and let the cold in. I’m 5’11” and 200lbs and got an XL. It’s not too tight and restrictive. It’s not too lose letting the cold in. It fit like it was made for me. Everything from the seams and zippers to material is top notch. Every zipper worked well. I had zero snags or hang ups. Didn’t pop a single stitch while golfing. I loved the rubberized feeling of the zipper pulls. Helps a ton when wearing gloves. I didn’t have any down poking me or falling out at all. This thing is warm! Wind didn’t get through at all and it kept me warmer than a regular under armor or Nike hoodie would normally keep me. It’s super light weight and packs down to nothing. I loved this vest so much I’ll probably buy another one in black. I’d highly recommend this vest for anyone looking for a lightweight, warm, and durable vest.
From city to trailhead in style and comfort!
This vest is the perfect layering piece to take you from a casual work day to campfires at the trailhead. The vest is comfortable, true-to-size, and well made. After numerous wears and various outings in town and outside, the vest is holding up well: no shedding of feathers or zipper snags. Lightweight, warm, and perfect for layering, this is my new go-to piece for cool mornings/evenings and shoulder season excursions. It’s been kayaking, backpacking, and stuffed into my pack too many times to count. It still looks and feels like new. Great vest!
Does Everything You Want and More, Amazing Vest
Quite simply, this is a great performing vest, and heartily recommended. Fundamentally, a vest's most important job is to keep you warm, and this vest does just that, and more. On trails from 10-45 degrees (F), and in snow, wind, and ice, this vest has kept me warm, unfazed, and on the move. The slim fit is spot on and the fit around the shoulders/arm openings is well thought out, too (the arm openings are slightly elasticized without noticing it), keeping all that warmth next to the body and not escaping from the arms or neck, which has a nice, high collar that gives some chin protection as well. Another great feature of this vest is its pockets. Both side pockets and the chest pocket have deep, roomy pockets. Plenty of room, for gloves, a hat, and a phone. On a warmer day, I packed the vest down into the hand pocket that doubles as a storage pocket. Overall, I highly recommend this vest. Outstanding.
