Purchased my first Mountain Hardware Down Vest back in the ‘90s. Purchased the same item again in 2024. The quality has not gone down over the years like some other brands that cut corners or use cheaper materials to increase their profit margin. This vest had snap fasteners along with the zipper then and still has them now. Those fasteners are the best feature of this vest because they give one an additional closure option in addition to the zipper. Both can be used together for additional protection. As far I know it’s the only down vest on the market that has both snaps as well as a zipper. It’s a great product that will not disappoint.
Wore it as a top layer as I climbed a Colorado 14er
Works great as cool or cold weather outdoor vest, unless it's rainy or snowy in which case waterproof over layer essential. The outside material is pleasant to touch and look, not the usual shinny look. Designers have successfully resisted the EXCESSIVE POCKET SYNDROME so characteristic in vests. Rather the sensible and well-crafted pockets are among the best I've seen, especially the comfy/warming inside flannel-lined hand pockets and the handy bottle (or phone or mask) pocket perfectly placed above the hand pocket for easy access. The heavy duty zipper is an upgrade over other MHW vests. The velcro fasteners for full closure outside the zipper make sense, but the downside is their libertarian nature of sticking to almost anything else, and not necessarily the matching velcro piece. It's generously cut, lending itself to lots of first and second layering but still providing a comfortable fit. That said, it's not a light indoor torso hugging garment.
This vest has become one of my favorite pieces. Absolutely love how I can layer it over another jacket and be mega warm. Love how durable the fabric is and use the bottle stash pocket in the morning to hold my coffee mug and evening to hold my beer fireside! Definitely going to take this next level and get the full jacket version.
As a vest person, I bought this on sale for some cold morning car rides. I love the comfort and size/amount of pockets (7 total). The vest is durable, very warm and highly functional. I'm 6'2/220 and the LG is snug but awesome.
I’ve been incredibly happy with my Nevadan Down Vest and can recommend it to others looking for a high-quality, versatile layer. The large fit is good (6’ 1” 185lbs) —true to size and accommodating enough to layer comfortably over a base or mid-layer without feeling bulky. The comfort is superb, thanks to its lightweight design and premium down insulation, which keeps me warm without being overly heavy. In terms of style, the vest works well for a variety of settings. While Mountain Hardwear is known for their gear designed for extreme weather and activities, I’ve been using the Nevadan Down Vest for light hikes and everyday wear around town, and it has performed beautifully in both settings. It offers just the right amount of warmth for transitional seasons or chilly days. Although I’m not the typical buyer of their extreme weather products, I’ve been consistently impressed by Mountain Hardwears offerings (of which my collection is growing), and this vest is no exception. It’s a fantastic option for anyone seeking a balance between function and fashion. Highly recommended!
The best down vest have ever owned. High quality throughout. Super warm. Strategically placed pockets. Even a special pocket that can hold a beer!! Fit is perfect. Highly recommend.
Need pockets? Look no further! Plenty of places to stash things. Great fit and very warm. Did I mention an abundance of pockets?
Great vest. It's comfortable, warm and looks great. If I can keep it away from my wife, I'll wear it more. Lol!
Very warm, a little stiff and thick in material near the zipper. Overall a great cest
